Analyst Blames Ethanol For Sudden Gas Price Spike

Pump prices around Baltimore have climbed about 7 cents for regular in the last week.

Now hovering around $3.54 a gallon. That's the highest it's been since late last summer.

Analyst Gregg Laskowski of marylandgasprices.com thinks there's one main reason for the sudden jump.

Laskowski says as the summer blends get mixed now at refineries the more expensive ethanol is pushing up the price at the pump.

  1. If it's ethanol, then why is diesel $4.06 per gallon? Isn't this a new record? There's no ethanol in diesel!

    Try again, buttheads...

  2. So the ingredient they are adding to the gas that gives us less gas mileage is now going to cost us more along with raise the food prices. This does not include all the things like mowers, weed eaters and power washers that is destroys. Why again are we adding it to the gas?

  4. winter is supposed to be "higher" b/c of the winter additives, they go bye bye in march, so why the cost??? cause people keep paying, and we have no choice, gotta go to work, obama wont let us have the oil line in midwest to help out though, nah, thats just too affordable for those people working, they might actaully get to keep some money

  5. If it isn't the summer driving season then it's the fall driving season, or the winter driving season or the spring driving season. Or is is a holiday driving time. Whatever the excuse I think that it has to do with share holder profits and of course the ethanol that goes into the fuel that is doing exactly as the previous commenter said, both killing our MPG and killing our lawnmowers et al while costing us more to feed ourselves.

I don't see diesel being anything special when it comes to MPG because when you do the cost/mile it seems that it evens out. I could be wrong so please let me know.

  6. Thanks (not) to the crazy EPA (the same one where their DC HQ office raw sewage flows untreated into the Potomac; of course the pollution really, in their eyes comes from our farms) for decreeing various blends of gas for various parts of the country.

Totally inefficient! Imagine if Cheerios or Heinz or Kraft had to make and distribute differing recipes by region in obedience to an EPA decree.

    Let free markets operate!

  7. 720, FYI, my diesel is a 325,000 mile truck @ 11 mpg, but new ones are around 20 mpg, if that. Same as gas, but more money. They are pricing it to increase shipping costs for your groceries and other products, so you don't see the theft.

  8. Gas will be $4 a gallon by the time they make the summer blend. Up about 150% since Obama took office.

  13. Just another part of the lies foisted on us by the administration.

It was supposed to be "better" for the environment - wrong...bigger carbon footprint.

It was supposed to end up being cheaper at the pump - wrong....gas dealers took that.

It wasn't supposed to impact the food supply because we grow so much more than we use - wrong....farmers got gouged by the glut of crops and gas dealers took the rest......

    Then they raised the taxes.....

November is coming...if you're not smart enough to see what happened because of the last presidential elections please don't bother to vote!

  14. I paid $3.14 a gallon in VA last weekend. It almost makes me want to move to the Valley. Also, why is gas more expensive in DE than in MD? MD has higher gas taxes, so they should have higher prices. Gas was $1.74 when Obama took office. His economic policies have been fueling inflation and quietly killing the working middle class.

  15. hey, don't taxes increase when the price increases?
our rulers are using millions of gallons of water a day in drought-stricken areas to manage the data they are collecting on us
our rulers deem it appropriate to burn food for fuel........
