Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Another Plant Closing In Salisbury?":
I know this posting is a few days old but I'll leave a comment anyway about K & L Microwave which has been in business over 30 years. Having been employed there the last 23 years I have seen our business succeed though low points and come out strongly profitable and continue to grow. In the last 5 years we have declined in profitability but still maintained a healthy future earnings outlook. The last 24 months I have seen cutbacks in staff. Cuts is production supply's. Building maintenance has been reduced to where our facility looks sad at best. This was a once thriving company and now all we hear from management is what we're not doing right with the little we have to do it with. We have stacks of test equipment too old to fix and too expensive to replace. We recently switched production suppliers(they supply hardware, razor blades, production aids, etc) all made in China and all the bare minimum in quality. Junk. The outlook for us is grim at this point. Our main source of purchase orders were coming from military contractors. You can imagine what has happened to that demand under Obama. Most of our purchase orders now are commercial(which means low profitability) and overseas reps. If our mother company wants to see us continue. There is no way we can hit any kind of acceptable profitability in the state of Maryland with the average revenue we're generating. None. Not to mention the added burden of being in Wicomico County. For us the writing is on the wall.
And one wonders why the wind turbine concept gets outdated regularly? We are incapable of obtaining technology and keeping it for at least 5 years. There is no profit or advantage in continuous change. When companies that specialize in technology can no longer afford to keep up with it there is a major problem.
ReplyDelete10:26 your analogy is not even relative to what the poster is saying.. K&L is awarded specs to augment projects and does highly specialized Engineering.. the Technology is the customer's.
ReplyDeleteYou would be amazed at some of the projects they still produce factor products for and the sensitive unique work they once did.. they have boundless possibilities with Aerospace and the many changes on the horizon many haven't the ability to fathom.
One problem is the Globalist Politicos with their personal stake in Southeast Asia stealing our unique industries.. in growth funds closed to you and me...that show profit when China mirrors something engineered in Salisbury.
K&L is a metaphor for what has happened all over this Country-- if it isn't SE Asia it's States like Texas and Ohio grabbing up failed Progressive policy States like Maryland's jobs.. We need Term Limits.. Wall Street.. and Globalist Banks out of our Business...and restrictions to what Politically the empowered are allowed to invest in.
Folks we are killing our quality of life it is time to become one and be heard. We do have a great county to live in. Time to make those who dont look out for the people to go. Too many politicians with self interest in office. We really need change and I mean major change in the way we think. We have become sheep. We all know where sheep end up. Just like cattle we will be slaughtered by poor manangement.
ReplyDeleteI fear we may be one generation away from the end of the United States and the continued slide into government provision for peoples needs so much so we may be the worlds next Crimea.
ReplyDeleteWell said 12:05.
ReplyDelete12:05-I cannot fathom anything that won't come to fruition at K&L in Salisbury. And you referred to the "sensitive and unique work they once did".Someone somewhere still does it.If our local plant does not do the tech work of which you spoke it has no relevance to our community whatsoever. If the writing is on the wall as the post suggested, what degree of past glory will change things?
ReplyDeleteWe are experiencing the final step of socialism , most businesses will be gone except for major food suppliers and medical things.
ReplyDeleteAfter all , you guys voted for this to happen , what can I say except live with it.
In 3 more years we will be what is now considered zombies , for real , no motivation , no interest , no ethics , no America.
thank god i got my teachers job to baby sit your cry baby kids.60 days and we are free for the summer god bless our teachers.
ReplyDeleteThe once very strong Industrial Parkway has been destroyed primarily by Maryland and Wicomico taxes and policies. You get what you vote for. We will look like Detroit soon. Add the crime rate and the Nazi cops and no company wants to move here either. It is getting worse, every year. Unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, most other parts of the country are doing fine, and gaining on their economic forecasts.
ReplyDeleteWicomico seems to be under the curve at the bottom 11th place in the country.
Good Lord.
Read all these posts and 12:05 says it for me. Between corrupt globilists and liberal states like MD and then add being in baby Detroit aka "da Bury" businesses here don't have a rosey future.
ReplyDeleteK & L did exactly what it was created for. Bernstein formed a business, made it profitable and sold it while the time was right. He then took the money sand invested in other businesses. Capitalism right?
ReplyDeleteNot to worry --
ReplyDeleteRick Pollitt's pal Memo Deriker says that happy days are here again in Wicomico County. And MD is issuing a report for use in Rick's reelection campaign, as he announced at the Chipman Center forum.
Hey, there are winners and losers in capitalism pal, so get over it.
ReplyDeleteTo 12:05 Posting - and in Response to 11:32 - Memo Diriker
ReplyDeleteI remember vividly what Memo Diriker said when Maryland and Wicomico were losing massive key manufacturing businesses specifically here in Wicomico.
'It is a normal cycle to lose manufacturing and that our sevice sector economy is more than taking up the slack.'
Now my response to Memo Diriker;
"When a country loses its manufacturing base - it's technological edge gets tossed out the window."
A through review of the historical analysis reveals that, indeed, this is what has happened in the US and specifically here in Wicomico.
As for myself, I would not rely on anything that Memo Diriker or the Beacon Group has to offer. History reveals that they were in error.
