Officer: 'I know the law better than you, believe me'
DAVIE, Fla. – “Get off of me! You are breaking the law!” shouts a South Florida woman as a Broward County Sheriff’s deputy enters her car and drags her out, all because she was recording her traffic stop on Interstate 95.
Now, the police agency is facing serious legal action for alleged battery, false arrest and false imprisonment.
The saga of single mother Brandy Berning began last March when she was driving alone in the HOV carpool lane, which is designed for vehicles carrying more than one passenger during rush hour.

unbelievable. a lt. doesn't know the laws he is supposed to enforce. because there was NO LAW. another bad apple? jerk? both?
ReplyDeleteIn Maryland the cops here also think they know everything, and would do the exact same thing to her!
ReplyDeleteHere's a comment from the source article. Everyone should use this avenue if at all possible.
ReplyDelete"What needs to happen is that we need to go after these idiot's bonds... they are required to be bonded for possible illegal behavior against the public, and if they get 3 charges to this bond, they lose it, their jobs and can NEVER serve in public office again, and you can collect from these bonds as well."
They tell recruits in training at Wor-Wic, " You're either with the Constitutional nut jobs or you're with your brothers in blue on the police force". "Make your choice"...
ReplyDeleteTrue story.
Is it any wonder story's like this are prominent every day all over the country?
These cops are going to be taught a lesson. It is just a matter of when, not if at this point.

ReplyDeleteExactly, training is the key here and I don't mean range time, either. Until our representatives hear this loud enough from us the cancer that is current law enforcement is going to eat away at America.
No, no.....you misunderstood the situation; I will break this down in to two separate parts. First dealing with the situation of the post and second we will explore the administrative side from a monetary standpoint.
ReplyDeleteDavie, FL is in Broward Co., but unlike the rest of the county Davie is infested with rednecks (much like Miami-Dade is infested with Afro-Americans/Cubans/Haitians/Jamaicans). On one side of Davie you have long standing families of the city that for generations have called the local trailer parks home. On the other side of Davie you have the Universities (FAU/Nova) and Golf Clubs. BSO (Broward Co. Sheriff’s Office) is very careful in selecting deputies that are assigned to patrol the City of Davie and the outer regions. I-95 runs through the section of Davie that most would consider “Very White” or Caucasian. The caliber of Law Enforcement is much like what you would find here in our own Wicomico Co. Deputies retain their position by way of nepotism, personal favor, and the tried and true method of knowing the boss-man and kissing his ass until it shines. Knowledge of one’s job is not a local requirement so why would we think that in an area that mirrors or own it would be any different. Unfortunately it takes an incident like the one being reported on this graffiti riddled sight to bring to light the sheer incompetence that faces our local government agencies. In order to show that there is NO incompetence within these organizations its leaders and managers must quickly devise cover stories, uncover outdated policies and laws, and always as a last resort blames an outside agency for the shortcomings in judgment that caused a situation to run a fowl. But, hey let’s go ahead and re-elect the same guy who has let this behavior flourish. After all he really does not care about our local Sheriff’s Office; he will be running for the Senate soon and can wash his hands of (as he so bluntly puts it) “This little piss-ant agency and all of its bull-shit problems”
Sorry Little Mikey, really and truly I will always love you like a brother and I know we’ve spoken many a time and we have always shared confidence, but I just can’t sit back any longer. A situation is brewing within the Sheriff’s Office; Mike needs one more term in order to receive full retirement benefits from the county. As it stands now he receives a full retirement from MSP at Sergeants’ pay. He will receive full retirement from The Wicomico Co. Taxpayers at Sheriff’s pay and is currently receiving proceeds from his lectures when he travels on Wicomico Co. Taxpayer funds while receiving full pay. How do I know this, well let’s just say I am incredibly efficient with numbers and payroll. I refuse to give exact totals to this media outlet at this time, but if a representative will call the Wicomico Co. Accounting Division on Monday after 11:00 AM I am sure we will have a most stimulating and thought-provoking conversation concerning county finance & budget.

Anything west of US 1 in broward county is ghetto
ReplyDeleteWord to the wise: Recognize a setup when you see it.
ReplyDeleteThis stuff always happens down there; I'm sure the female defendant was nothing but polite to the deputy (not). I grew up in Hollywood and I am a LEO. I would stay out of that county entire for one. Next, to the comment above comparing WCSO and BSO; the two could not be more apart. BSO has over 3000 sworn deputies WCSO has maybe what......65-70. Laws between the two states are different as well as rules and policies. Here if I needed to talk to the Chief or Sheriff I knock on their door and ask if they have amoment (although your LG. might get insulted for not asking him first). There I would need an appointment over a month in advance. Two separate animals.
