Wicomico To Join Clean Chesapeake Coalition

SALISBURY – After meeting with local environmentalists to discuss the pros and cons of Wicomico County joining the Clean Chesapeake Coalition, the Wicomico County Council voted to move ahead ensuring a collaborative effort from all sides.

A resolution to join the Clean Chesapeake Coalition, and to make a supplemental appropriation from contingency to the County Executive’s Office in the amount of $25,000 for membership dues was approved in a unanimous vote by the Wicomico County Council this week.

According to Clean Chesapeake Coalition, in a state of sticker shock after being presented with its local Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP), the County Council of Dorchester County reached out to county government officials across the State of Maryland with an appeal to merge for purposes of questioning public costs and efficacy of policies, programs and practices being mandated by the state and federal government in the name of saving the Chesapeake Bay.

  1. This will result in nothing. May as well throw $25,000 in the bay, it would be more useful.

  2. They could have donated it to me. I could use it.

  3. I agree with 10:17AM, if they have money to throw around like this, throw it to the citizens of this town, we could use some help for the stupid decisions you make for the rest of us.

  4. alas; hopefully common sense decision. the WIP (extreme liberal EPA group) needs to be checked at every turn. their numbers and "science" conclusions don't add up. too much blame is put on the Eastern Shore; not enough on the Western Shore.

hopefully the CCC will rebut and rebuke this group and keep a better watch on our behalf. we have let the WIP dictate and run "rough shod" over us without enough "questioning and push back" long enough.

  5. Someone needs to follow the money to see exactly where it goes and stop these liberal groups from getting a pass.

  7. The Clean Chesapeake Coalition is not a liberal group. It is a coalition of rural Maryland Counties,(primarily consevative) who joined together to seek cost effective alternatives to the current Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP). The current WIP program openly ignored cost try to make everyone feel the pain. In it are approaches to Nitrogen abatement that cost over $100,000 per pound, when $9 per pound alternatives are available. This might be the BEST money Wicomico County has ever spent!

  8. 12:58 - I can almost guarantee it will not be the BEST money Wicomico County has ever spent - something in the works somewhere, guaranteed. Next they will want more, then more, then more money.

I think you are wrong. There are 4 counties that are full of extreme liberals. Most of the others don't. Frederick is slowing starting to learn hard towards being full of liberals. Look at all the counties in far West part of Maryland. There are far from being liberal.
