Road Conditions Went From Horrible To Great
Now that we have announced Wicomico County Schools being close again tomorrow, the images above should give you an idea as to how things look out there.
Mind you, as the day went on and the sun came out things got a whole lot better, hence the last photo taken around noon today. I didn't even think of taking pictures of Rt. 50 because it was perfectly clear by noon.
I'm sure the side streets are as rough now as they were in the above image because the snow got packed down and you know what's underneath.
I will say, if the Mayor wanted to make a lot of money and tick off a lot of citizens he'll be out there tomorrow morning writing citations all over the place because most sidewalks I saw today were not cleared. I say that because many of these kids have to walk to school, (not tomorrow) and it won't be pleasant. I saw MANY people walking down the streets, even on Rt. 50 below.
Now you have to ask yourself, will Ireton go after Perdue for not clearing the sidewalks? If he does, well, he better go after the Police Department too because they didn't clear their sidewalks either.
The pansey mayor Won't fine perdue.
ReplyDeleteJust go jump in front of a snowplow Albero. You would be doing all of us a favor. Are you sure you have male parts in your basement?
ReplyDeleteanonymous 5:25, Awe, poor fella. Did you forget to call me today and ask if I could plow your sidewalks. Notice I didn't say driveway because they don't provide driveways for section 8 housing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joe, for clearing my elderly neighbor's sidewalk and drive. Very kind gesture,
ReplyDeleteJoe, a few years ago...when we had a light snow dusting there were 27 School BUS accidents in Wicomico County...The admins are scared of law-suits b/c their bus drivers cannot drive...
ReplyDelete5:58, Sorry but that's a load of crap. Prove it.
ReplyDeleteI live on a back road & let me tell you, the roads are terrible. There are children who live across the street from me & I don't see how the buses could possibly drive down our road safely. I'm sure there are several other back roads just as bad as mine. Thank you BOE for closing the schools tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAs Atlanta has discovered it is better to close schools because you never really know what could happen.
ReplyDeleteI have got to say, last week when they closed schools and there was not even a flake, I agree they went overboard. When the roads are covered the way they are now and probably will be for the next couple of days, due to the temperature, I am grateful that schools are closed.
ReplyDelete6:17, I felt bad for them because the storm last time was supposed to hit right when school would be getting out, which would have been a disaster. Instead, it held off so they looked bad.
ReplyDeleteI am no fan of the board of education, I can tell you that. But I do cut them slack on this sort of thing. Even when we get "just a dusting," the roads are SLICK. Everyone must have slept through the driver's ed lesson about the first rain or snow and how it disperses street oil and grease and becomes one slick mess.
When temps drop into the teens at night and the daytime temp stays under freezing, travel isn't a good idea for areas that don't experience it on a regular basis.
It's an inconvenience, but everyone should respect erring on the side of caution for safety.
No school day is worth dying in an accident for.
Oh no... we had snow. Blame Obama and Ireton.
ReplyDeleteThe Atlanta issue was NOT like a box of chocolates. They knew ahead of time what they were getting.Way ahead of time.
ReplyDelete7:03, grow up. Do you really sit around like a troll all day looking at the blogs just to make a stupid comment like that. Man, you need to get a life, or a job, or off food stamps, disability and section 8 housing. Oh, that's right, you have a blog that no one ever goes to. I forgot.
ReplyDeleteback roads are not plowed and will be ice in the morning
ReplyDeleteI agree, Joe. The County and City crews have really come and through, and roads are really great, and we can thank the Big Guy above for the sunshine! Uh, that would be my Lord and Savior, J.C. , his Dad, and the Holy Spirit in me!
ReplyDeleteStill no plow at my city home Jimbeau. Between my city and county home taxes thats close to 5000 well spent. You truly suck Salisbury Md.
ReplyDeleteTony the Tiger plowed the roads in front of my house. They look grrrreat!
ReplyDeleteHere are some fun facts that I got by calling the county public works department, the city "street" department (as I was told), and the State Highway department web site. The county has close to 700 miles of roads, they plow all of it except for the dirt roads (unless it is substantial snow fall and they are done last) they also salt 200 miles of their roads. The city has just over 150 miles total and they plow and salt their snow emergency routes, which total 47.7 miles. The state highway has 168 miles and they salt and plow all of their roads. The miles given are straight miles, not lane miles. If you count lane miles, the mileage of course is higher, but this gives us an idea of how much responsibility each department has. I find it interesting that the State, (who took the money away from the county and city for roads) has substantially less. They also hire independent truckers at a rate of $100 per hour to push snow. The county and city both said they don't contract any out due to cost.
