The Maryland State Department of Education says the state has received a waiver from the federal government to avoid double-testing and sanctions when testing new state assessments this year.
State Superintendent Lillian Lowery made the announcement on Friday.
The state requested a waiver from certain provisions in the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act to test new assessments in almost all of the state's schools.
