Cover-Up?

Army historian says report on deadly Afghan battle was altered to absolve faulty gun

Survivors of bloody battle report M4 jams

A former Army historian who chronicled the infamous Battle of Wanat in Afghanistan, where nine U.S. soldiers died after their M4 carbines jammed, tells The Washington Times that his official account was altered by higher-ups to absolve the weapons and senior officers.

M4 critics have long pointed to the Afghanistan battle on July 13, 2008, as evidence that the rifle’s design was flawed. They cite reports from soldiers on the ground that their guns overheated and jammed that day.

But the gun’s supporters have pointed to a single sentence in the official Wanat history issued in 2010 by the Army’s Combat Studies Institute at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. It blamed the gun’s sustained rapid fire that day, not its design, for the malfunctions.

“This, not weapons maintenance deficiencies or inherent weaknesses in weapons design, was the reason a number of weapons jammed during the battle,” the sentence read.

  1. there will never be a perfect rifle. the best way to deal with the taliban is to bomb the crap out of them. sending infantry into that place is a disaster waiting to happen, just ask the russians!

  2. Um., a full auto weapon failing because of 'sustained rapid fire' sure sounds like a weakness in design to me.

  3. your full of crap 2:47PM

AK47 might have a statement to make on that one... how many times have the designs of that gun been altered or fixed? eeerrrp none... It was designed and built once and has continued to work flawlessly for the past 30 years or so...

Oh and to add, the only reason why we lose any battle is because of money, the towel heads are connected with more money than the word even has and they can out wait us like they said they would do to the russians and they did it to both of us, the US and russia...

When your country is rich and you waste money for a war you will lose, when your country is poor and you fight to save your home, you will win that battle... and by the looks of the towel head taking back falluja and all, they won...

I'll take foreign weapons of ours anyday... after all america only care about how much money it has and how much it can take from us the citizens...

Think about it, they had developed a better bullet proof vest they wouldn't even give to the troops who needed them all because of a contract they had with some other manufacture...

IM glad I never fought for my country because I prob would be dead right now over some war some fuck job made happen to take control of a resource of a country... Afghan and lithium ring a bell? Iraq and oil ring a bell?
