After much discussion the decision was made to put together a team of attorneys to challenge Wicomico County's rules to qualify to run for County Executive. The rules state you must be a County resident for at least 5 years. I say that's a load of crap, how about you?
So You Make The Call. Should we move forward and challenge the County? Keep in mind, my Attorneys are researching the matter to see if we'd be wasting the Courts time, something I/We refuse to do.
Nevertheless, let's see what the residents of Wicomico County would like. I can tell you as of today Rick Pollitt has not filed.
Let's hear your thoughts on this matter.
Go Joe! Great news!
ReplyDeleteIMHO, residency should not be a requirement but property/business ownership for at least 5 years should count or a combination thereof.
ReplyDeleteThis is great news. I never liked that rule and believe it is unfair. We can get great qualified people to do a much better job if you had it removed.
ReplyDeleteMy call is that Jenny is a lot better looking than you. Go, if you can!
ReplyDeleteThe person on the right is much better looking than the one on the left. I would vote for her in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteI vote to get rid of the mistake voting a exec in the first place..i didnt vote for it...hows it working for ya now...just another layer of useless government fat budget padding...like a vampire on the budget and funds....county exec that needs to go
ReplyDeleteGO FOR IT JOE.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 5:35, I disagree. You are continuously making it impossible for some really great people to qualify. Let's say an executive of a large corporation moved to Wicomico and retired. If he/she decided they'd like to participate and use their experience to help rebuild jobs, why should they be denied. Because they don't own a home or business here, come on. I might agree with the residence part, that seems fair.
ReplyDeleteWicomico County is in a desperate position right now. Unemployment, foreclosures, good paying jobs, industry, all very key problems.
I cannot argue, she's absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think residency in some form (business or personal address) makes a lot of sense.
ReplyDeleteBut Joe! That picture is in the wrong county silly! haha
I'd bet Pollitt would be wearing depends at every forum. Do it Joe.
ReplyDeleteIf your willing to put so much of your life and family's life out there as you did before, do it. I am only one vote speaking
ReplyDeleteI think its a great idea. Your fresh off the trail with the city election and I believe it was stolen from you. Do the research and keep us informed.
ReplyDeletegreat just another napoleon! your ego would get in the way! you would be just another bully.
ReplyDeleteRUN, JOE, RUN!!!!
ReplyDeleteJoe
ReplyDeleteTo qualify to run for office, a person should be a stakeholder and regardless of prior employment, should have sufficient time in the area to understand the local economy, history and people. Additionally, it is unlikely that the local folks would vote for a come here. I am educated, a come here since 1976 and retired in my early 40's. I like the fact that you are shaking things up in Salisbury but don't get too big of a head.
ReplyDeleteA residency requirement seems like a pretty common requirement, most everywhere.
The reasonableness of a requirement's length might be more open to challenge.
And whether owning property for a stipulated period is a proxy for residency.
On a less serious note, Photoshopping your Hawaiian birth certificate and placing it on your website should suffice as a Wild Card to overturn any fussy language.
Back to serious: The exodus of the higher caliber citizens from the 'bury is why candidates like clownface, speedy, candycrusher and freemeelz can get traction.
It would be an honor to vote for you again Joe.
ReplyDeleteI say a BIG HELL YA!! Thank YOU
ReplyDeleteIf Obama can be deemed to be a 'Naturalized' Citizen while eye witness accounts report that he was born in Africa - then certainly Joe Albero should be allowed to run for County Executive.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Joe's knowledge as to the ins and outs as to how the County works - for Gods Sake - let us all hope that he does not embark down that path as we have all witnessed the present catastrophic results of knowing
As far as the First Lady - she'll fit-in just nicely - Maryland/Wicomico could ask for a finer person.
They don't even require employees to live in the county they work for, go for it, and sue the hell out of them!
ReplyDeleteJust say NO to county exec position..get rid of it...lets vote again i want a re count
ReplyDeleteLiarton has NO experience u Do.
ReplyDeleteJust run for Governor and get it over with.
ReplyDeleteJoe, I admire your efforts to improve Salisbury and Wicomico County, but (just in my opinion) trying to bend the rules to be allowed to run doesn't send a good message. You only became eligible to run for Salisbury mayor because you moved into your building in Salisbury from Delmar exactly a year before the election. I know lots of people who questioned your motivations -- if you cared so much about Salisbury, why didn't you live there before? You might run into the same problem running for County Executive, just saying.
ReplyDeleteI think the city charter should be dissolved and the county take over.
ReplyDeleteOh dear GOD, PLEASE run Joe. PLEASE. Local Democrats are BEGGING you to do it.
ReplyDeleteHow about a requirement to submit a Resume that reflects a candidate's qualifications for the job?
ReplyDeleteNah, makes too much sense.
If it is true... as you said before... that they fudged the results before. Then why do you think anything would change now?
ReplyDelete6:58 All I can do is laugh.
ReplyDeleteWhy should he have to live here? The Police Chief didn't live here, to "get to know the area", and the way you clowns think. Neither did the other Fire Chief.
I am not sure how you can say "if he cared about the area..." I think he has already proven that.
Bend the rules? He is legally validating/challenging the requirements. Good for him. Better than sitting on his ass doing nothing.
6:16 yea that come here thing, ha ha just had to bring it up! That is a large part of the problem now isn't. Lets not judge a person on their capabilities, lets judge them on where they came from.
Yes, run!!
ReplyDeleteJoe,
ReplyDeleteNo offense, but I wouldn't correlate hits on a website to votes. I read your website a few times a day, but I don't think you are capable of governing over our local government.
Don't listen to Jarred B., most of your readers probably live in the county not the city. You would be in a much better position to start off. Imagine poor Rick's face when you beat him in a landslide.
ReplyDeleteJoe. I hope you decide to run, I believe you have what it takes to move this county in right direction. And you can count on My Vote plus one. I would love to help your campaign, if you need it. Go Get Them, Joe!
ReplyDeleteAnnie Hole
ReplyDeleteWhat are your qualifications? GED? What have you accomplished? BTW, I really don't give a flying donut what happens in that sheet hole town of Salisbury or Wicomico county. I was smart enough to get out when the getting was good. Living very comfortably is south florida and retired at 43. I still firmly believe that for anyone to be in a position of governing, they should have some history in the area and I don't think that five years of either residence or property/business ownership is unreasonable. As for the police and fire chief positions, they are not elected officials. As I stated earlier, I admire Joe's shaking things up in Podunkville.
I would think that not only your financial stake in this county, but your obvious interest in the welfare of the county would be enough to qualify you. Run for it, we need you!
ReplyDeleteDoes residency make any difference in Washington DC. There are laws about being qualified to run for the presidency, and those laws have been overlooked.
ReplyDelete8:59 Anonymoushole did you actually have a point? I missed it with all your blabbering.
ReplyDeleteI am not running so my qualifications are not relevant. But thank you for supplying us with your resume, glad you think so highly of yourself, I do not feel the same. Nor do I care what your opinion is on residency, since you are not a resident. Elected or hired makes little difference to your point of "knowing the area".
Guess Pollit being born and raised didn't help his ability to serve appropriately now did it.
Run Joe - I'll vote for you.
ReplyDeleteWe need good candidates that actually care about the area and people - not just lining their pockets.....
Annie the blow hard
ReplyDeleteJust because I don't live in the peoples republic of MD doesn't mean that I don't still own multiple properties and businesses there. I moved to a republican state with no state income tax. You are still supporting the left. You are part of the problem with the shore. All talk and no action. Enjoy getting taxed to death and I hope your trailer/mobile home is warm. Joe should run but I predict that he will have the same outcome as before regardless of his blog/ability/charisma or talents. You can't fix stupid and I'm sorry to say that is the majority of the eastern shore.
You have my vote. We need change and leadership.
ReplyDeleteRun Joe Run! We need paper ballots this time!
ReplyDeleteThere should be a residency requirement, but 1 year is plenty.
ReplyDeleteFive is ridiculous.
I don't support the "if you own property" or "if you own a business" argument. You do that to make money, first and foremost.
Bad enough Chicago money bought the Salisbury city council seat and presidency.
Two here would vote for you - go for it.
ReplyDeleteAlot of people which ALL said they voted for Joe where hypocrites.
ReplyDeleteHell , if the president of this country can run for election without legal citizenship I don't see why this should be considered at the county level.
ReplyDeleteAnyway ,what the hell does your residence have to do with your qualifications?
Joe, when you say the rules state you must be a resident for at least 5 years & YOU SAY " that's a load of crap" , well then you are slapping every citizen of the county in the face. We voted for that years ago & now it is our law in the county. I agree with it & I supported that change on the ballot. I want someone who has a vested interest in our county & who is willing to live there, too. Furthermore, I'm not sure where you are going with this post. This is not a problem in our county.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 7:49, I thank you for your comment and opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit confused. Can you please tell us WHY you feel the 5 years is important? You simply say you agree with it but you don't really say why.
As for the "vested" part, how much more money do I have to spend in Wicomico County to qualify. I own multiple properties in the County and I do have a residence in the County. Therefore I do qualify, aside from the 5 year part.
Let's say I decide not to move forward with running. Can you truly tell me of a single person who would consider running who is actually QUALIFIED to rebuild Wicomico County, specifically referencing building property values and job creation?
Rick Pollitt has proven he is absolutely no good for the position. He has proven the only way out of this depression is to tax residents more.
Wicomico County can no longer afford to elect someone who doesn't have the experience in the corporate world to turn things around.
I look forward to your reply and again, thank you.
OMG 7:49AM must be Rick or one of his friends. "This is not a problem in our county." Since when? Joe does have an interest in our county - and living here does not prove, by any means, that one has a vested interest in this county. There are plenty of politicians, who live in this county, who turn a blind eye daily to what is happening right before them, so don't even go there. I would welcome Joe right today to take over and get this county viable and prosperous, like other people should have been working on all along. Go blow your horn somewhere else 7:29.
ReplyDeleteYou can't tax people to death and improve the economy at the same time. Creating jobs is the best way to increase tax revenue and build on the economy at the same time.
ReplyDeletego for it joe. I hope you win. we need some real leadership in wicomico.
ReplyDelete9:48 anonymous blow hard
ReplyDeleteApparently you, the slum lord..... "I own property but don't live there" is the bigger problem now isn't it. Keep blabbering and revealing your true nasty self.
At least I have a vested interest in the community. And yes my single family house is warm thank you for asking.
It is people like you, who have no vested interest in the community and turn it into a slum that are the problem. Please stay in Florida, glad you moved. We don't need people like you here. And since you can't vote, again, your opinion doesn't matter.
Must be your "significant" other is so tired of listening to your blabbering you have had to turn to blogs in other states to get attention.
I notice how you equate people that live in trailer parks are lesser than you. As if they are sub human and do not account for anything. Very revealing what type of person you are.
You are correct, you can't fix stupid, just like you. Sad nasty man.
Hit me back when you can support a valid argument, because you have not and you keep changing the subject to detract from your stupidity.
The topic was challenging residency requirement.
7:49 "we voted for that years ago"
ReplyDeleteBut things change and evolve.
Isn't it necessary sometimes to repeal a rule because it no longer serves it purpose? Why 5 years?
8:09 made a great point - There are plenty of politicians, who live in this county, who turn a blind eye daily to what is happening right before them
Maybe its time to look at the rule and see if it needs changed. I don't see that as a slap in the face. It only takes 1 person to make a difference.
And Joe is often that game changer.
I agree with Annie, stay in Florida, and since you don't pay income tax, don't forget to send Pollitt your property tax money for new cars. You should run Joe, at least a businessman knows how to balance budgets instead of raising taxes to off-set the difference.
ReplyDeletePlease run Joe. I would love nothing more than to see you humiliated again.
ReplyDeleteGood for Annie!
ReplyDeleteHey, 9:48, since you think you are so entitled because you own property here, how about the Chinese come in, buy up all the property around you, then elect who THEY want to run your town.
Joe we can't live without you, please run, how pathetic. Grow up people and fight back by first voting and second writing the politicians telling them enough is enough.
ReplyDeleteQualifications should be having a masters or phd. in business. Having run a successful business. etc. Don't care about the residency thing. Make the qualifications fit the job in order to run. I once lived in a county that had to do that, as the good 'ole' boys were winning and ruining the county. like here. bob culver? what a joke. Pollitt we know a joke.
ReplyDeleteRun Joe. 4 votes for you in our house. We want T shirts and signs ASAP!
ReplyDeleteanonymous 10:30, what the hell does a masters degree or a PHD have to do with ANYTHING? You people are so brainwashed by the Liberal Agenda it isn't funny.
ReplyDeleteI guess ALL the inventions that brought AMERICA to the forefront of the entire World by UNEDUCATED citizens means NOTHING to you Liberals. Thomas Edison, Walt Disney, come on now, I could go on and on about so many others but I'll use these names because I believe even you young Idiots will recognize them easily.
Bob Culver is a good man. A man willing to stick his neck out to make a different the way he see's fit. So Mr. Mrs. Masters Degree, why isn't YOUR name in the hat?
Please do tell me of ANYONE you know who has a very successful business here on the Shore who has a Masters Degree and would be willing to run for County Executive?
OR, is this a setup because you are one or happen to know of one and YOU/THEY plan on running?
I think a degree is over-rated especially without any experience to back it.
ReplyDeleteExperience is more important
Beezer - wow, you really hate the fact a black Democratic candidate was elected president, don't you?
ReplyDeletePres. Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961 to an American mother. He's a natural-born American citizen, unlike that Tea Party mascot Ted Cruz, who has a CANADIAN, not American birth certificate and whose father is CANADIAN.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Tea Party.
Ocean City hires us "come heres" from the other side of the bridge quite often for important city positions (city manager, police chief, etc.), including non-residents, Most likely to avoid hiring people who are bias. I think it's a great idea that Salisbury should take heed to.
ReplyDeleteAndy...are you stupid? He is talking about Wicomico County and you are talking about Salisbury and hired positions, not elected positions.
Delete11:13
ReplyDeletefake birth certificate
fake social security card
falsified student loan applications
Hypocrisy, thy name is a Democrat
Run Joe Run. GOOD LUCK!! You have got to do a better job that Tricky Ricky.
ReplyDeleteJoe, I just wanted to say, as I've said to you before, good job with this blog. I hope you prevail in whatever course you take, and finally, your wife is one hot, hot, babe. No offense intended.
ReplyDeleteIt would take a charter amendment to change the requirements. That would require the current council to hold a public hearing and vote for the change. So lets see, the followers on your blog, so let's just say your blog, has been outspoken against Matt Holloway, Sheree sample Hughes, Gail Barkovich, Hall, (all the RINO comments) and even Stevie Prettyman. That leaves you with Joe Holloway and Bob Culver. Bob is running so it isn't likely that he would support it., so you are down to one yes. Don't see it happening. If you run, you would split the votes between Bob and yourself making Rick a sure thing. That is just how I see it playing out. With the sale of your building and the fact that you have clearly moved back to Delmar DE. and have stated so on your blog, you don't even meet the one year requirement. Unless I am missing something, that is how I see it. Maybe next election if you move back now and stay here.
ReplyDeleteDear Annie ,
ReplyDeleteI got to tell you , you are on the ball girl!!
I love the way you think , it's so good to hear intelligent comments with the proof.
You go girl!!
anonymous 12:38, I own a home in Delmar, Salisbury and Ocean City. YOU do NOT know where I claim my residence therefore you are full of crap. By the way, my building is under contract, not sold. I can also find another location in Woc. Co. to reside.
ReplyDeleteAs for the rest of the Council, I don't care who's with me and that is why we are considering bringing it in front of a Judge to decide. It is clearly discrimination and proves that the Good Ol' Boys have a lock on that job for whatever friend they want to occupy it.
While I appreciate your comment Mr. Pollitt I'd rather let a Judge tell me if we are right or wrong.
Your wife sure ain't with you for the looks, lol.
ReplyDeleteSEXY LEGS...
ReplyDelete12:38pm You are wrong in that the council can vote to change this. No one can change the charter except the voters of the county. Now, I believe, the council can vote to put the question on the ballot for this upcoming election for the voters to vote for or against it.
ReplyDeleteI do think, though, you are spot on with you assessment of how Joe has alienated the members of the council with the exception of Joe & Bob. And from some of Joe's previous posts I really thought he was stumping for Bob to become CE. Now, with this post, I'm really confused.
12:38, you may be right, but I believe that the council does have the authority to amend by resolution. Most other counties like Baltimore County have a 5 year minimum. Don't know why it is so discriminatory now. The residents voted for the Executive form with all of the requirements it came with. Now it doesn't suit Joe and he wants to undo what the citizens voted for. Go figure.
DeleteFunny how the comments are being moderated on this post. That is okay, I am sure the Daily Times will print my paid half page ad describing how you are the farthest thing that this County would ever need. We need someone to talk the area up, not disparage, belittle, and talk about how bad it is.
Delete4;08....You goof....she's with him because she obviously loves him. Women LOVE a hard working man with integrity and a generous heart. Money helps, but that is usually the result of hard work.
ReplyDeleteWhich is probably why your boyfriend left you for another guy. Get a job instead of waiting for the mailman....
this is my 2 cents, i believe any one running for office should reside in the location where they will be representing. The reason i believe you should reside is very very simple, you would have a vested interest in the area, not only as a citizen, or business owner, but an actual home owner. Makes it up close and personal....thus you can relate on a level with the people who reside.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 6:32, I am a multiple property owner in Wicomico County with a residence. The CHALLENGE here is, WHY 5 YEARS.
ReplyDeleteWhen Hillary Clinton ran for Senate from Upstate New York, come on now, you know she was a stranger to New York. It was questionable if she was living there for the ONE YEAR required.
Now, I ask you, if it's OK to represent the State of New York and you only have to reside there ONE YEAR, why in the heck does Wicomico County require FIVE YEARS minimum?
This is WHY I will challenge the County.
Reference to 11:13 Posting
ReplyDeleteNo I am not racist. I supported Herman Caine and frequently contributed to his campaign. He was the only Presidential candidate that offered a viable economic plan -(999 Plan).
Now back to Obama's birth certificate. How is it that everyone of his school classmates referred to Barrack Obama as Barry Soetoro. How is it that Barry Soetoro ended up as Barrack Obama. Simply Google it and you can find out the details from his fellow classmates.
No wonder Caine didn't win with the ultra-exclusive 999 plan. You didn't really send him money eh? Obama's step father was named Soetero, hence the quagmire
ReplyDelete11:13
ReplyDeleteStupid a-hole
Go for it! I couldn't vote for you when you ran for mayor. I can vote in this election since I'm in Wicomico County.
ReplyDeleteI am with you 11:13. So much of this discord stems from I will not be led by a black man.
ReplyDeletePlus a lot of sore losers who cannot accept that their man was rejected by the majority, twice.
9:23, no Andy is not stupid but you are for failing to recognize his point. Don't play the semantics game. He has a logical point.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:29, stop acting like a complete Idiot.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:26, I'd bet if the County Executive position went to referendum in the next election it would and should be abolished.
9:26pm There can be no amendments by council to change the Charter. The Charter is adopted by the voters & it is the law of the county. Charters can only be amended by voters. Check it out. I did.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if this applies
ReplyDeleteApplicability of Chapter 619
Chapter 619 amended Article 24, §1-107(b)(1) of the Maryland
Code to provide as follows: “A county or municipal corporation
may not require an employee to reside within the county or
municipal corporation or within a required distance of the county or
municipal corporation as a condition of employment.” Chapter 619's
title provides that it applies to “Baltimore City, each county, each
municipal corporation, and certain regional agencies.”1
Thus,
Chapter 619 applies to every municipal corporation, including
Hagerstown, unless this application were unconstitutional.
9:03am No, this does not apply. This is speaking about "employees", not elected officials.
ReplyDeleteElected or not you are still and employee of the county.
ReplyDelete9:29
ReplyDeleteAnyone bent on paying the Daily Times to print a half page ad on any issue ...is a complete loon- paying to be heard? Ha Ha Ha
Paybacks are really tough aren't they Mr Strausburg? Self control seems to be a real challenge for you lately.. if you need to drink use your head..that get out of jail free card is a Monopoly prop
Joe, when you run, be SMART this time. Make sure they use PAPER ballots, or else they will rig the election AGAIN.
ReplyDeleteYour political ambitions are commendable and you will always have my vote regardless of which office you run for. However, the entire system from top to bottom was designed to eventually fail.A 180 does not appear to be possible, but a 120 is within reach.
ReplyDeleteJoe, Just from reading Salisbury News, anybody can see that you have the intelligence, the understanding of how everything works, and you do your research. This should be more important than where you live or anything else to lead this county.
ReplyDelete
