Your cell phone rings. But just once.
Then you see a missed call from an area code you don't recognize, like 268, that turns out to be from the Caribbean.
So you're curious and you decide to call it back.
That call back can prove costly.
It's being called the "One Ring" scam and it's shown up on phones of Marylanders and folks across the U.S.

I have never returned a call in my life unless I personally knew the caller.
ReplyDeleteGood posting. I have a missed call on my phone from area code 767. Looked it up on the internet. Guess what, it was listed as a scam sight. Saved by SBY
ReplyDeleteI have actually gotten 2 of these calls from:
ReplyDelete876-370-6331 and 268-762-0158
I did not answer, googled it, and moved on.
None of my friends were on vacation in Jamaica or Antigua and Barbuda.
You call this one back, 876-370-6331, and its a deep voiced man saying he's from publishers clearing house. It happened to me this morning while I was asleep.
DeleteIf you do this, you are too stupid to own a cell phone! LMAO!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I call the wrong number and then hang up the moment I realize it.Several times people have returned my call immediately wanting to know "who dis is" and asking why I hung up.I seriously hope the same idiots get a call from this bunch.
ReplyDeleteI never answer a call from an number I don't recognize and I don't call that number back. If it's important they will leave a message.
ReplyDeleteStupidity is expensive. That's why I avoid it!
ReplyDeleteI don't have to worry about these types of scams. I still use a rotary dial phone and do not ever plan on having one of them cellular things.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens when you use your cell phone for business you have to answer.
ReplyDeleteGot a call this morning 268-762-0012 Antigua..... No thanks dcsmmdrs
ReplyDeleteMistakenly pressed it on smart phone... Verizon said when it comes through on bill let them know and they'll issue a credit. Apparently they are having this happen a lot.
