Ted Cruz: The Imperial Presidency Of Barack Obama

Of all the troubling aspects of the Obama presidency, none is more dangerous than the president’s persistent pattern of lawlessness, his willingness to disregard the written law and instead enforce his own policies via executive fiat. On Monday, Mr. Obama acted unilaterally to raise the minimum wage paid by federal contracts, the first of many executive actions the White House promised would be a theme of his State of the Union address Tuesday night.

The president’s taste for unilateral action to circumvent Congress should concern every citizen, regardless of party or ideology. The great 18th-century political philosopher Montesquieu observed: “There can be no liberty where the legislative and executive powers are united in the same person, or body of magistrates.” America’s Founding Fathers took this warning to heart, and we should too.

  5. 943, other commenters, and ted cruz, if you think exec. orders are illegal, take it to court. Seems to me you only hear whining about exec orders from the party thats not in power. Which means you simply disagree with the order (which is fine) and are simply spouting hyperbole with all the "dictator" talk.

  6. 9:48 No, that's not what I meant. Executive powers have been abused tremendously by the last 4 presidents.

We The People need to reign in government - this being one of the reasons.

Obama forgets that the House was voted in Republican BECAUSE he did not listen to the people regarding Health care. Now he wants to do everything EO. Get outta here.

  7. If Congress could do their job and get something done, it wouldn't be necessary to use Executive power. Congress is worthless. Don't complain if you can't get your job done.

  8. Scrutinize the truly great orators before you vote. The ability to speak eloquently at the highest level is a sign of concealing other weaknesses.A candidates superiority in making speeches has nothing to do with effectiveness in office once elected.Instead that should be a dead giveaway that something is amiss.

  9. The house was voted in republican due to gerrymandering of districts. G.W used executive orders more than Obama. (200+)
