O’MALLEY’S BUDGET PROPOSAL CALLS FOR HIKE IN COLLEGE TUITION

ANNAPOLIS – Students at Maryland state colleges and universities could face a 3 percent tuition increase, as a result of the budget proposal Gov. Martin O’Malley announced Wednesday.

“We put the money in up front, and then that allows them not to have to pass as much of the cost onto in-state students when they set their tuition and their budget for the year,” O’Malley said. “And every year, it’s a bit of a negotiation.”

Initially, the University System of Maryland wanted a 5 percent tuition increase, but through funding from the state, the governor’s office was able to push it down to a 3 percent cap, said O’Malley’s press secretary, Nina Smith.

  4. Too bad the wrong people are gonna get this money!

I'm OK with the tuition hike - too many idiots find their way to college graduation that aren't smart enough to push a broom!

  5. When the "in-state tuition for illegal immigrants" law was passed, no one even questioned how it would be paid for. Now you see the results. I propose a law that says if you vote Democrat you will have to pay a fee of $500. That money will go to illegals to help them with their college expenses.

  9. 3:399 And to continue the fraudulent pretense of qualification from UMES and UMBC.
(For those graduates, let me spell it out: your fake college degree is the equivalent of a freshmen in high school in a real academic environment)

  11. @12:35,

I think you will be disappointed to find out that the majority of O'Malleys supporters are not the young but hey if it makes you feel better believe what your little mind tells you.

    12:42,

Right, just what we need, more people growing up who will not be able to find a decent job due to a lack of college education. Have fun paying for their food stamps.
