Troopers Investigating an Attempted Robbery of an 8-Year-Old Male

Location: Scotch Pine Drive, Pinewood Acres, Dover, DE

Date of Occurrence: Wednesday January 8, 2014 at approximately 5:15 p.m.

Victim: 8 year old male

Suspect:

Black male, 30-40 years of age, 6’00”-6’02” tall, 150-180 lbs., wearing an all-black jacket, black pants, and a black ski mask (no further clothing or physical description). Operating a white in color work van with tinted windows (no make, model, or registration available). Armed with a knife.

Dover, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an attempted robbery of a young male as he was walking through Pinewood Acres yesterday evening.

Troopers responded to the residence of an 8 year old boy, living in Pinewood Acres, who informed his mother that an unknown subject approached him while he was walking home from a friend’s house and threatened to stab him if he didn’t give him all his money. The incident occurred near the intersection of Scotch Pine Drive and Loblolly Pine Drive around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday as the young boy was approached by black male armed with a knife. After the subject demanded money, the child turned to run away from the stranger when he lunged at the boy with the knife. The young victim was able to elude the assailant and make it safely home without being physically injured. The male was last seen entering a white work van with tinted windows and fled the area in an unknown direction.

  1. Does anybody else find this just a bit strange? What kind of money does a little kid have to make it worth a thief's while to risk an armed robbery charge? The all-black clothing and the ski mask seem a bit much, too. Remember Ralphie's fantasy of driving off a pack of robbers with his BB gun?

    I thought the same thing when I read it. I also wondered if maybe the motive was not really robbery.

    This is assuming the desperado exists, which I wouldn't want to bet on. Perhaps the young crime fighter was late getting home from school and needed a good story. He wouldn't be the first kid to spin a tall tale.

    I agree, a bit too detailed for an 8 yr old. Height, weight, age, etc.
