LIMITED LIABILITY
That's what taxpayers grant to Perdue Agribusiness -- not counting the $8.75 million in corporate welfare that Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett is also promising to give to multibillion-dollar Perdue.
WHY?
So that:
1. Perdue's soybean-to-oil factory proposed in Lancaster County, Pa. can misuse the very air we all need to breathe -- as a toxic, hexane-waste disposal site. This leaves Perdue without having to worry about paying a penny for ruining our health.
2. Like a Charleston, W.Va. company that's lately been polluting the drinking water of hundreds of thousands of people, Perdue acts like it's entitled to commit a similar -- and even worse -- crime here:
...when the liquid form of its toxic hexane is released from the explosion- and leak-prone storage tanks that Perdue wants to put on a sinkhole-containing site along the Susquehanna River -- from which six million people get their drinking water!

"If this can happen in Charleston, how safe are the nation's waterways?"

Definition of a Limited Liability Company or LLC:
Like a corporation, a limited liability company or "LLC" is a separate and distinct legal entity. This means that an LLC can obtain a tax identification number, open a bank account and do business, all under its own name. The primary advantage of an LLC is that its owners, known as members, have "limited liability," meaning that, under most circumstances, they are not personally liable for the debts and liabilities of the LLC. For example, if an LLC is forced into bankruptcy, then, absent special circumstances, the members will not be required to pay the LLC's debts with their own money. If the assets of the LLC are not enough to cover the debts and liabilities, the creditors generally cannot look to the members, managers or officers for recovery.
12 companies go by the name of Perdue Agribusiness LLC:
These companies respectively are located in Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Let us not forget about the muslin man found in the water pipe at the water utility in New Jersey, a story NOT covered that openly by any media outlet. Don't apply this scenario until it's proven that west Virginia water contamination was not intentional.
ReplyDeleteWhere would you move to feel safer? I expect all places could have a potential water or air problem
ReplyDeleteThis is one area where the far right and the far left are on the same page. While the far right is for less government, they know an agency such as the EPA is necessary because dealing with big corps is out of our control. The problem is the EPA and other regulatory agencies are controlled by big business who push (secretly) for regulations as a way to eliminate smaller competitors or preventing them from expanding. Don't be fooled by them claiming they don't want more regs. They are lying.
ReplyDeletePerdue is getting $8.75 million of Pennsylvania workers tax
ReplyDeletecontributions to create only ~30 jobs at their proposed soybean oil (biofuels)plant in Conoy Township. Perdue has reported that some of those jobs will be below the living wage for Lancaster County.
Those under-a-living-wage workers will be likely be eligible for Pennsylvania state and federal government subsidies to support their families on such low wages----costing the taxpayers even more money. Those under-a-living-wage workers will be likely to not have enough money to spend locally to support Lancaster area businesses.
AND on top of that Perdue intends to add to the area's bad air quality by spreading a layer of the neurotoxin HEXANE on us.
Plutocracy rules in Pennsylvania!
Perdue has been extracting soybean oil from soybeans for decades at the Zion church road facility with absolutely no ill effect on the environment, workers or community. The hexane is kept in a very closed system with full recovery. This is just nonsense.
ReplyDeleteThank you, 11:13, and I know this for a fact, as I have seen this exact room.
ReplyDeleteAnd to the "LLC" horrification, there are literally millions of companies nationwide who have structured themselves as LLC's. Doll factories do it! It's a later of financial protection from a business failure caused by something out of the company's hands.
It is NOT an evil plan to poison thousands of people, leave them for dead and get away with it.
Sheeesh!
At comment 11:13 ...Here in Pennsylvania the situation is different. Perdue intends to release hundreds of tons of the neurotoxin hexane in a river valley location with thermal temperature inversions, that trap air and pollutants at the ground level instead of dispersing them via a smoke stack. We already have serious air quality issues here as well. Also as noted above the proposed site and our area is littered with sinkholes making storage complicated to say the least. Plus Perdue has not instilled confidence in Pennsylvania residents---they could not even fill out the DEP paperwork correctly and have had to redo the whole thing. And if that is not enough they are partnering with the local trash mafia (LCSWMA) on the project. LCSWMA has already been involved in 2 failed ethanol plants on the site; is money laundering trash funds through another little PA town; (it is rumored) has a leader that has been known to verbally attack and become physically aggressive at meetings; (it is rumored) that same leader hangs around local bars giving out public money (bribes to local officials) for arts and historic organizations and a river trail in exchange for supporting his expansions efforts.
ReplyDelete11:13-You cannot state what you have unequivocally since you haven't any idea if anyone has suffered any ill effects. U of MD Oncology in Baltimore and the Weinburg Center (Hopkins Cancer Center) have a revolving door of patients seeking treatment from the Eastern Shore. Ask any of those health care professionals why they think cancer is epidemic on the Eastern Shore and they sum it up in one word-"chickens."
ReplyDeletemoney talkS, he who has money has the be$t lawyer$ and he who has money win$ election$
ReplyDeleteWant a good scare? Go to the Johns Hopkins cancer treatment COMPLEX. And then understand that it is only ONE of hundreds around this country. OVERFLOWING with people with 6 months to a year to live.... But the corporations spewing poisons and toxins (profits at ANT costs!!) don't have ANYTHING to do with it? They are only interested in HELPING us.
ReplyDeleteIt is either Bush's fault or the doings of those terrorist colonialists in early America.
Quit making excuses for the people who would kill their mother (or your children, just as good) for thirty-fives cents and some stock options.
You better watch your ass Albero. There are plenty of people who work for Perdue who will bust you in the mouth for stuff like this.
