1920s Salisbury Building Becoming Home For Dance

A former bank building in Salisbury will become the home of the Eastern Shore Ballet Theatre and the Salisbury Dance Academy.

The 19,000-square-foot historic building had been vacant for several years.

It was built in 1920 and was formerly the AllFirst Bank.

The non-profit Eastern Shore Ballet Theatre was founded in 1991.

  1. More cash flowing into the City coffers! Boy! Will this ever be a crowd pleaser, drawing hundreds more to the downtown area! Where will they find a place to park them all? It will attract the West side crowd by storm, with the Church skreeters a close second! Then the Catholics and Methodists...

  3. anonymous 4:52, I couldn't agree more. Maybe we should have elections every two years and spark up even more interest Downtown.

  5. 434 here, And I didn't mean to be crass or have anything against the Dance Academy, either. More power to them and I hope they enjoy their new digs.

My point is aimed at "Downtown Revitalization". Soooo many set up and locked up Art Galleries, sooooo many square feet of vacant space, soooooo many reasons to not pay to park to see nothing, and this hits the headlines. 19,000 square feet.

Saw down those meters, Jimmy, and watch the MONEY MAKING BUSINESSES start moving in. On their own, without a government subsidy. as I'm sure the Dancers are getting, or free rent. There's over a million square feet of vacant space downtown now, all bringing nothing to the table.

  6. Why is this even public knowledge? Who authorized the release of this info before it appears as though the ink is even dry or even final?

  7. Well, 629, in case you are new to this site, this is where news is broken. You will see these stories in the next few days. Sometimes, Sbynews has the story before the MSM has it.

No, usually, SBYNews has it before the MSM has it.

    Welcome to the club!

  9. It will not be successful. They will find it will be to costly to maintain that old building.

  10. Anon 4:35.. (and 5:49).. you're wrong. I dont think there is even 1,000,000 SF downtown. AND if you remove the meters, and allow free street parking, good luck getting it. Me and the other 'good ol boys' downtown will be turning our parking passes in and taking up all of the street parking. We're always the first ones downtown while the rest of you are sleeping in and complaining about everything were doing downtown.

Downplay the downtown revitalization if you may, but what are you doing to make this town a better place? Rome wasn't built in a day..

Also, I do credit Albero for keeping buzz going downtown, and you should too. He did something. He ran for mayor, he relocated his office downtown, and you clowns couldn't even get out of the house to vote for him.

  11. 8:12-The post is linked to a WBAL story. What is concerning is that someone felt compelled to release this info when it appears as though the property hasn't even changed hands yet. Anything could happen at this point in time esp if there are any contingencies involved. Could it be unethical for the info to be release by anyone other than the buyer and seller. Now reading above post about parking lots, could it be that this was released by certain city officials to make it look like something is starting to happen downtown?

  12. Don't have a dog in this fight.

Sounds like they have an ongoing business at another location. My question would be where will the parents driving the students park? Don't think they're accustomed to hoofing it to/from the car to the studio and paying to park.

    But best wishes to them.

  13. 912 and 1057, while at the dance studio, each student will be running back to feed the meter every 45 minutes or so? And to Mr. "Good Ole Boy", You would rather use your car and those of your employees to hog all the parking in front of your store? Good idea, if you really want to fail your own self interest!

Where are these folks going to school, Joe?

  14. This enterprise will fail.

Some 25 years ago I was assigned the task to deliver the departmental mail to what was then a branch of First National Bank of Maryland. I was livid because of the restricted access. Allfirst abandoned the property because of that restricted access. Today the restricted access remains.

You want to revitalize the so called "Downtown Plaza", bulldoze the street furniture and reopen it to through traffic.

  16. 11:44's comment is why no one will take you clowns seriously. Have fun waving frantically from the sidelines while the rest of us get stuff done.
