Walmart will be on the hook for the glitch-prompted shopping spree that nearly wiped out stores in Louisiana after the Electronic Benefit Transfer system temporarily removed spending limits on food stamp recipients’ cards.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, which oversees the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, said Walmart will have to foot the bill for store losses in Springhill and Mansfield, La., during a food shopping frenzy.
No card is limitless, DCFS spokesman Trey Willims told KSLA-TV. Usually when outages occur, he said, it’s the store’s responsibility to take action, include calling a number to verify customers’ card limits.

H2Oi Event Brings Surge In OC Police Calls, Traffic Citations; Mayor: ‘We Have No Control Over It …’
OCEAN CITY – With an increase in police activity linked to participants, Ocean City officials are hoping to create a beneficial partnership with the organizers of the annual Volkswagon and Audi weekend event that comes to Ocean City each September.
H2O International, also referred to as H2Oi, is a two-day VW/Audi rally that was held in the Ocean City area Sept. 28-29 this year. The rally is not a sanctioned event with the Town of Ocean City, but there are organized events in Ocean City as well as in points to the west, including Fort Whaley Campground off Route 50.
This year from Thursday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 29, demoflush reported a population of almost 578,000. During that time, the Ocean City Police Department reported a total of 2,207 calls for service between officers and citizens, and between traffic stops, traffic citations, and traffic warnings, there was a total of 1,584 traffic enforcement actions. There were also a total of 14 alcohol citations, 53 total arrests, seven drug arrests, four weapon arrests and seven DUI arrests.

Mass. High School Student Says She Was Unfairly Punished For Giving Ride To Drunken Friend
A Massachusetts teen was punished for showing up at a party where police arrested about a dozen students for underage drinking – but she didn’t have a drop! Erin Cox, a 17-year-old honor student, says she went to the party to pick up a friend who’d had too much to drink, a story a police officer on the scene corroborates.
School officials claim that Cox still violated the school’s zero tolerance policy just by being there. They took away her captain’s position on the school volleyball team and suspended her for five games.
Erin Cox told the Boston Herald, “I felt like going to get her was the right thing to do. Saving her from getting in the car when she was intoxicated and hurt herself or getting in the car with someone else who was drinking, I’d give her a ride home.”

A Prophecy From 93 Years Ago
H.L. Mencken (born 1880 - died 1956) was a journalist, satirist, critic, and Democrat. He wrote this editorial while working for the Baltimore Evening Sun, which appeared in the July 26, 1920 edition.
"As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and complete narcissistic moron."

STATE POLICE STAND BEHIND EXECUTIVE PROTECTION TROOPERS
(PIKESVILLE, MD) – The Maryland State Police believe comments made by the Maryland Attorney General today about the Commander of the Executive Protection Section are baseless and inappropriate. The Department continues to stand behind the statements made by seven troopers who made written reports in addition to other troopers who made oral reports from the Executive Protection Section whose concerns were detailed in emails recently required to be released to media pursuant to requests under the Maryland Public Information Act.
In a television interview broadcast today, the Maryland Attorney General referred to the Commander of the Executive Protection Section as a ‘henchman’ and implied his actions were motivated by politics. This reference to Lt. Charles Ardolini is unseemly and unacceptable. Lt. Ardolini has served in the Executive Protection Section for almost 13 years, as a trooper providing protection, as a supervisor, and, for the last eight years, as the commander of the section. He worked under the administrations of Governor William Donald Schaeffer, Governor Parris Glendening, Governor Robert Ehrlich, and Governor Martin O’Malley.
As Commander of the Executive Protection Section, Lt. Ardolini reports to Lieutenant Colonel William Pallozzi, Chief of the Support Services Bureau. Lt. Col. Pallozzi served as a trooper providing protection, as a supervisor, and as a commander of the Executive Protection Section for 11 years, working for three administrations. “The role of anyone assigned to the Executive Protection Section, including the commander, is to fully focus on providing for the safety and protection of the elected officials we are assigned to protect,” Lt. Col. Pallozzi said. “We are to remain completely unattached and unaffiliated with any political party, cause or candidate. To accuse someone in the Executive Protection Section of a politically motivated action impugns the integrity not only of that individual, but of every one of the dedicated troopers who works in this difficult and demanding assignment. I have worked with and supervised Lt. Ardolini for more than 20 years and find his character and his commitment as a member of the Maryland State Police to be above reproach. The concern of Lt. Ardolini was solely focused on the safety of the protectee, his troopers, and the general public. His actions, which occurred two years ago, had absolutely nothing to do with any political motivation.”
The Maryland State Police believe the members of the Executive Protection Section work very hard to be impartial. Lt. Ardolini’s conduct was nothing but professional. His memorandum was the result of ongoing safety concerns expressed to him by his troopers over a period of time that culminated with actions witnessed by the Lieutenant himself. He ultimately reported his concerns up his chain of command to the Superintendent of the Maryland State Police. Lt. Ardolini would have been considered negligent in his duties had he not done so. Lt. Ardolini did not make these documented concerns public. The documents became public due to a request by the Washington Post under the Maryland Public Information Act.
The Maryland State Police Executive Protection Section role remains that of protection, security, and safety, not politics.

Exclusive Video: Vet Protesters Remove Barricades at DC Memorials
The Kelly File aired exclusive footage of Sunday's Million Vet March. Protesters marched in Washington, D.C., outraged over the government closing the memorials meant to honor veterans.
The video shows people removing the barricades as they’re confronted by police. Critics of the demonstration suggest it was motivated by the Tea Party.
Documentary filmmaker Dennis Michael Lynch was at the event from beginning to end. “There were men there with no legs, with no arms, crying […]. How dare anybody use them as a political pawn for a way of trying to boost up their own ratings.”

WhoWhatWhy Bush And The JFK Hit, Part 5: The Mysterious Mr. de Mohrenschildt
What possible connection could there have been between George H.W. Bush and the assassination of John F. Kennedy? Or between the C.I.A. and the assassination? Or between Bush and the C.I.A.? For some people, apparently, making such connections was as dangerous as letting one live wire touch another. Here, in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination in November, is the fifth part of a ten-part series of excerpts from WhoWhatWhy editor Russ Baker’s bestseller, Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, America’s Invisible Government and the Hidden History of the Last Fifty Years. The story is a real-life thriller.
Note: Although these excerpts do not contain footnotes, the book itself is heavily footnoted and exhaustively sourced. (The excerpts in Part 5 come from Chapter 5 of the book, and the titles and subtitles have been changed for this publication.)

“Must have angered a lot of people”
In 1976, more than a decade after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, a letter arrived at the CIA, addressed to its director, the Hon. George Bush. The letter was from a desperate-sounding man in Dallas, who spoke regretfully of having been indiscreet in talking about Lee Harvey Oswald and begged Poppy for help:
Maybe you will be able to bring a solution into the hopeless situation I find myself in. My wife and I find ourselves surrounded by some vigilantes; our phone bugged; and we are being followed everywhere. Either FBI is involved in this or they do not want to accept my complaints. We are driven to insanity by this situation . . . tried to write, stupidly and unsuccessfully, about Lee H. Oswald and must have angered a lot of people . . . Could you do something to remove this net around us? This will be my last request for help and I will not annoy you anymore.
The writer signed himself “G. de Mohrenschildt.”

Macy's To Open on Thanksgiving For the First Time
Macy's Inc. says that it will open most of its stores for the first time on Thanksgiving, breaking a long-standing tradition for the venerable retailer.
In a release issued late Monday, the Cincinnati-based chain says it will open its doors at 8 p.m. on that day.
The move comes as the chain faces growing pressure from other stores. Over the past few years, rivals have gotten a jump on the official start of the holiday shopping season by opening their doors increasingly earlier on Thanksgiving.

FIRST HANDGUN QUALIFICATION LICENSES MAILED TODAY
(PIKESVILLE, MD) – The Maryland State Police Licensing Division today mailed out more than half of the almost 1,000 handgun qualification licenses that have been applied for under the state’s new firearms law that took effect October 1st.
Today, the Licensing Division mailed 508 handgun qualification licenses to approved applicants, 15 days after the new law took effect. Since October 1st, 904 applications for a handgun qualification license have been received. State Police personnel have so far conducted the required background checks and approved 761 of the applicants. The remaining number of approved applicants should be receiving their licenses shortly.
Unless exempted, as of October 1, 2013, the state’s new gun law requires a Maryland resident to possess a valid handgun qualification license before he or she may purchase, rent, or receive a handgun. To apply for a license or learn details about where to obtain fingerprints or training, persons are encouraged to visit the Maryland State Police website at www.mdsp.org and click on Licensing Division. A list of frequently asked questions and answers about the new law is also available there.
The Maryland State Police continues to receive positive comments from members of the public regarding the user friendly nature of the online application process. Firearms Safety Training Courses are available throughout the state and the Maryland State Police continue to register qualified handgun instructors daily. In addition, the State Police remain in constant communication with Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services personnel, who report that live-scan fingerprinting sites across the state are prepared to meet the demand for this new license.
The Maryland State Police remains dedicated to its obligation to issue the handgun qualification license within 30 days of receipt of a completed application. The HQL Unit stands ready to answer any questions regarding the requirements or status of any license. Most questions can be answered through the website mentioned above.

Gansler Evades Answering A Media Scrum
It was the kind of media scrum you see in movies. A crowd of perhaps 20 reporters and videographers was chasing a source who didn’t want to talk.
That was the scene at High Point High School in Beltsville Monday at noon, as Attorney General Doug Gansler scooted into a waiting SUV with a state trooper at the wheel. Supporters had run interference as the AG made his exit.
The typically talkative Gansler had just been speechifying to these reporters as he announced his running mate for lieutenant governor, Del. Jolene Ivey, an alumna of this Prince George’s County high school. Ivey too, after her acceptance speech, hopped quickly into a private black Cadillac Escalade.

Patriot Act Author Prepares Strong Bill To Rein in NSA Abuses…Calls For Prosecution Of James Clapper
In an interesting twist of irony, one of the Congressman most instrumental in the destruction of civil liberties in these United States due to his authorship of the Patriot Act, Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.), is now leading the charge to rein in NSA abuses. His disgust with the NSA became clear back in early June when he wrote an impassioned letter to Attorney General Eric Holder criticizing the illegal NSA activity happening behind the scenes. The key point here is that Mr. Sensenbrenner strongly believes that these guys are misinterpreting the legislation he wrote to justify everything they are doing. As such, he and others are proposing legislation to make it crystal clear what is and what is not appropriate surveillance.
Not only that, he is also calling for the prosecution of James Clapper the current Director of National Intelligence, who perjured himself in front of Congress earlier this year. Mr. Sensenbrenner said:
Oversight only works when the agency that oversight is directed at tells the truth, and having Mr Clapper say he gave the least untruthful answer should, in my opinion, have resulted in a firing and a prosecution.

100,000 Cattle Feared Dead After Early South Dakota Snowstorm
Giant burial pits have been dug in the Black Hills of South Dakota-- for cattle lost in a surprise snowstorm 10 days ago.
As many as 100,000 head are feared dead and financial losses may be as high as $1.25 million dollars. The federal government shutdown has only made things worse.
Nothing could prepare Scott Reder and his wife, Angela, for what the melting snow has revealed.

Obamacare Shock: $12,600 Deductible, 40 Percent Co-Pay, Zero Competition
Many Americans shopping for better health insurance deals promised by the two-week-old Obamacare system are instead being slapped with rate shock, including savings-sapping deductibles and co-pays, according to multiple reports from around the country.
For some able to get the problem-plagued Obamacare website to work, the so-called “deals” the system is coughing up around the country include $12,600 deductibles, co-pays of up to 40 percent, zero competition, and rate hikes of 260 percent.
The huge cost increases that some Obamacare applicants are seeing are feeding the effort in Congress to change the system and delay implementation until January 2014.
"This is why we've been working so hard to dismantle and repeal this bill, so that we can begin to pass step-by-step reforms that transform the health care delivery system by putting patients in charge, giving them more choices, and reducing the cost of health care so that more people can afford it,” said Tennessee Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander.

Unusual Collaboration At UMES, Salisbury Benefits Both Schools
Martin Ngwa, a student at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, plans to go into social work after graduation — though his school doesn't offer the major.
Thanks to an unusual partnership between UMES, an historically black institution, and Salisbury University, its traditionally white neighbor, Ngwa is earning dual degrees in sociology and social work.
The opportunity to take classes on both Eastern Shore campuses is the result of several decades of collaboration — a partnership that was praised this week in a federal court opinion that found some Maryland policies still promote "separate but equal" colleges and universities.

NSA Collects Millions Of E-mail Address Books Globally
The National Security Agency is harvesting hundreds of millions of contact lists from personal e-mail and instant messaging accounts around the world, many of them belonging to Americans, according to senior intelligence officials and top secret documents provided by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.
The collection program, which has not been disclosed before, intercepts e-mail address books and “buddy lists” from instant messaging services as they move across global data links. Online services often transmit those contacts when a user logs on, composes a message, or synchronizes a computer or mobile device with information stored on remote servers.

ONE FOR THE BOOKS
When Cat Kaufman decided to tell her husband of 20 years, David, that she had some big news, she was quite nervous. After all, she was about to tell him something that would rock his world, shatter their marriage, and most likely destroy their relationship: That she was a lesbian. "I could tell she was nervous," David said when Cat sat him down and told him she had some news to share. After she said that she had been "thinking of dating women," David didn't cry, or explode, or even demand a divorce. Because he had some news too. He was gay as well! Not even the craziest sitcom would try to get away with this scenario, but it happened in real life. And then it got even stranger!
After Cat broke her news to her husband, she received the unexpected answer, "Get out of town! I just figured out I'm gay!" At that point, her nerves turned to excitement and relief, she said.
But there was something else David didn't tell her -- probably because he hadn't quite figured it out himself yet. But a year later, he finally did.
He wasn't gay. He was a woman.
"No, I don’t just want to be female. I really am female," David, who became transgender and changed his name to Dani, told CBS News.
Kind of unfortunate that Dani didn't feel she was a lesbian, but a heterosexual woman instead, or things could have worked out perfectly for this pair. Instead, they remained friends and live minutes from each other. Hey, maybe that is perfect.
"We're each other's best friend," says Cat.
Aww, something sweet about this! It really goes to show you that it is the person inside that counts.

Delmarva Power to Begin New Reliability Project
Rebuild of Transmission Line in Ocean City Will Enhance Electric Service Reliability
OCEAN CITY, Md. - In order to continue to provide safe, reliable electric service in Ocean City and throughout portions of Worcester and Sussex counties, Delmarva Power will begin rebuilding a high-voltage transmission line along the town’s Coastal Highway between the Maridel substation on 41st Street and the Ocean Bay substation on 85th Street.
The $10 million project to rebuild the existing 69,000 volt transmission line is scheduled to begin this week and involves the replacement of 90 wooden poles, most of which are more than 40 years old, with galvanized steel poles that require less maintenance and are built to withstand winds of up to 120 mph. Forty-five of the existing wooden poles are 65-feet tall and hold the 69,000 volt line. These poles will be replaced with 90-foot tall steel poles in order to achieve greater safety clearance from nearby buildings. The other 45 shorter, wooden distribution poles are located in between the taller poles and will be replaced with steel poles of approximately the same height.
“We have coordinated the project with the Town of Ocean City, the Maryland State Highway Administration and other utilities to minimize the amount of noise and traffic disruptions during construction,” said John Allen, Delmarva Power Region Vice President. “For safety reasons, residents should expect intermittent closure of right traffic and bus lanes in those blocks under construction.”
The rebuild of the line is targeted for completion by the end of February 2014. All post-project cleanup work will be finalized by mid-April of next year.

A TEACHER FROM THE GREAT STATE OF MISSOURI WILL LOSE HER JOB FOR STANDING UP FOR ALL OF US
Give this teacher and true American a standing ovation. This 4th grade teacher has said it all, and she was brave enough to attach her name to it.

Mr. Obama:
I have had it with you and your administration, sir. Your conduct on your recent trip overseas has convinced me that you are not an adequate representative of the United States of America collectively or of me personally.
You are so obsessed with appeasing the Europeans and the Muslim world that you have abdicated the responsibilities of the President of the United States of America. You are responsible to the citizens of the United States . You are not responsible to the peoples of any other country on earth.
I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the United States, telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their status in the world.Sir, what do you think the First World War and the Second World War were all about, if not the consideration of the peoples of Europe?
Are you brain dead? What do you think the Marshall Plan was all about? Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century?
Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the United States does not consider itself a Christian country?Have you not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the United States?
This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage. Do you not understand this?
Your bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia is an affront to all Americans. Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of Saudi Arabia .... You didn't show Great Britain, our best and one of our oldest allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of Saudi Arabia ..How dare you, sir! How dare you!
You can't find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation because you don't want to offend the Germans, but make time to visit a mosque in Turkey ......You offended our dead and every veteran when you give the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves. What's the matter with you?
I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of yourselves, all of you.
You are so self-righteously offended by the big bankers and the American automobile manufacturers, yet do nothing about the real thieves in this situation, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelic, the Fannie Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses. What do you intend to do about them? Anything? I seriously doubt it.
What about the U.S. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to their staff members on top of the $2.5 million in automatic pay raises that lawmakers gave themselves? I understand the average House aide got a 17% bonus. I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer. You haven't said anything about that. Who authorized that? I surely didn't!
Executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be receiving $210 million in bonuses over an eighteen-month period, that's $45 million more than the AIG bonuses. In fact, Fannie and Freddie executives have already been awarded $51 million not a bad take. Who authorized that and why haven't you expressed your outrage at this group who are largely responsible for the economic mess we have right now?
I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not caring about what you idiots do.We are watching what you are doing and we are getting increasingly fed up with all of you.
I also want you to know that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive to every one of my sensibilities. I promise you that I will work tirelessly to see that you do not destroy my beautiful country.
Sincerely,

Vietnam POW 40th Reunion News Coverage
I don't recall hearing about this! Nixon was not a popular president at the time, but this showing of respect demonstrated by him and many other Americans to former POW's is scintillating! What a stark contrast exists between the times of Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan and Bush II compared to Clinton and Obama.

My Uncle Frank was a staunch Conservative.

Since then he has voted Democrat.

ATF Tries To Block Fast And Furious Whistle-Blower From Publishing Book
The ATF agent who blew the whistle on Operation Fast and Furious has been denied permission to write a book on the botched anti-gun trafficking sting "because it would have a negative impact on morale," according to the very agency responsible for the scandal.
After first trying to stop the operation internally, ATF Agent John Dodson went to Congress and eventually the media following the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December 2010. Two guns found at the murder scene were sold through the ATF operation.
Dodson's book, titled "The Unarmed Truth," provides the first inside account of how the federal government permitted and helped sell some 2,000 guns to Mexican drug cartels, despite evidence the guns killed innocent people.
Dodson, who is working with publisher Simon & Schuster, submitted his manuscript to the department for review, per federal rules. However, it was denied.

WOW !! WOW !! AND WOW AGAIN !!
95 year old hero!
Letter To Obama at Whitehouse Sent from 95 year
Old Pearl Harbor Survivor !!
This venerable and much honored WW II vet is
well known in Hawaii
for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country.
A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.
Dear President Obama,
My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year.
People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I
remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.
I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate. Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor, allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.
One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.
So here goes.
I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.
I can't figure out what country you are the president of.
You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:
" We're no longer a Christian nation"
" America is arrogant" - (Your wife even announced to the world, "America is mean- spirited." Please tell her to try preaching
that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.)
I'd say shame on the both of you, but I don't think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.
After 9/11 you said," America hasn't lived up to her ideals."
Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War? I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom.
I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than
discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.
Take a little advice from a very old geezer,
young man.
Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don't, I'll do what
I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental onPennsylvania Avenue.
You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of
murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.
And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to
jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his
fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to
do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black
college professor in Massachusetts, who was putting up a fight? You don't mind offending the police
calling them stupid but you don't want us to offend Muslim fanatics by
calling them what they are, terrorists.
One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never
had to defend your country with your life, but you're the
Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened
field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission,
give them to him. But if you're not in this fight to win, then get out.
The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political
strategy you're thinking of.
You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest
challenge ever presented to any president.
You're not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our
bloated economy. That's not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and
soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now.
And I sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in
this final battle...
Sincerely,
Harold B. Estes
Child Soldiers In Syria
Abboud , 12, and his brother Deeb, 14 fighting with the opposition in Aleppo’s Sheikh Saeed neighborhood.
These kids will probably be showing up in some future video laid out on some slab while some adult lays blame on Assad for killing children.
I notice the one kids has a radio. I wonder if that's provided by uncle Obama
Obama waived the child soldier ban before so i guess he isn't going to care now either, but i'm curious if anyone knows what "brigade" or troop or whatever they are with.
The kid in blue has an arm patch i'm thinking shows what group they are in. If anyone knows.

NYT Reporter: Obama Admin “Most Closed, Control-Freak Administration I’ve Ever Covered”
Remember when the media rushed to talk about transparency in the Barack Obama “Hope and Change” era? Good times, good times. Leonard Downie, who once worked as the executive editor of the Washington Post and wrote a novel about Washington corruption and the Iraq War, finds a bigger and non-fictional problem in the successor to George W. Bush. Downie gives the Post a preview of his report from the Committee to Protect Journalists which outlines the Obama war on reporters and their sources:
“A memo went out from the chief of staff a year ago to White House employees and the intelligence agencies that told people to freeze and retain any e-mail, and presumably phone logs, of communications with me,” Sanger said. As a result, longtime sources no longer talk to him. “They tell me: ‘David, I love you, but don’t e-mail me. Let’s don’t chat until this blows over.’ ”
Sanger, who has worked for the Times in Washington for two decades, said, “This is most closed, control-freak administration I’ve ever covered.”
Many leak investigations include lie-detector tests for government officials with access to the information at issue. “Reporters are interviewing sources through intermediaries now,” Barr told me, “so the sources can truthfully answer on polygraphs that they didn’t talk to reporters.”
The investigations have been “a kind of slap in the face” for reporters and their sources, said Smith of the Center for Public Integrity. “It means you have to use extraordinary measures for contacts with officials speaking without authorization.”

Neocons Roast Dick Cheney In NYC – Joke About Waterboarding And War Crimes
On Monday night, the disgraced neocon establishment gathered at the Plaza Hotel in New York City to celebrate the depravity of Dick Cheney by having a gigantic laugh about all of the pain and suffering they inflicted on the rest of the world while they held the reigns of power. The event was hosted by Commentarymagazine, which is edited by John Podhoretz. Celebrated guests included none other than Donald Rumsfeld himself, who Richard Nixon once described as “a ruthless little bastard, you can be sure of that.” But hey, what’s a couple of jokes centered around crimes against humanity amongst sociopathic friends?
From Buzzfeed:
Former Sen. Joe Lieberman “said something to the effect that it’s nice that we’re all here at the Plaza instead of in cages after some war crimes trial,”recalled one person who was there.
Two attendees said the edgy jokes were in appropriate spirit of a roast; the third found them in poor taste, even in that setting.
“There were some waterboarding jokes that were really tasteless,” the guest said. “I can see the case for enhanced interrogation techniques after Sept. 11 but I can’t really endorse sitting there drinking wine and fancy dinner at the Plaza laughing uproariously about it.”

Imperial Rage And Madness
All serious Americans who know much about top level politics in D.C. know that we are living in a time of political rage and madness at the top, but the mad men and women do not know they are in the grip of madness.
This is a situation very similar to the one that led to the great catastrophe of WWI when none of the people who produced it thought a catastrophe possible.
Most intelligent people, whether or not they know anything about top level politics, feel uneasy about the long run political gridlock that has led to this political crisis we face and the rage of the mad ones “managing” the crisis at the top.
I still think they will “muddle through” this latest time of gridlock, crisis and rage and go on to the next, worse one not far down our horrendously crooked road full of pot holes and swamps and fires.
But I have been studying the final years of the U.S. Global Empire intensely and have been growing more and more uneasy with what I see being imposed on us citizens at a ferocious pace.

Police In Florida Suburb Make Millions Selling Drugs, Report Finds
Police in Florida have been luring big-money drug buyers to a small suburban town from across the United States and as far north as Canada, negotiating sales of cocaine in popular restaurants and then arresting the buyers and confiscating their cash and cars.
According to a six-month investigation by the Sun Sentinel, undercover detectives in Sunrise, Fla., seized millions of dollars from the drug stings, offering cash rewards for the confidential informants who help police attract faraway buyers, including paying one informant more than $800,000 over the past five years.
The paper’s investigation has led the police department to stop the cocaine stings, with Mayor Michael Ryan, who supports the police work, blaming the Sun Sentinel for exposing the department’s strategies and compromising the undercover work.

Guns Sales Drop, Confusion Grows Under New Law
PASADENA, Md. -- A crush of gun-buyers, anxious to beat the implementation of a tough new law, has given way to a pile of paperwork and lingering uncertainty about new requirements.
Two weeks after Maryland's strict new gun law took effect, gun dealers say the shopping spree has dropped off and customers are confused about what they need to do to purchase a firearm.
"Since Oct. 1, it's slowed down," says Frank Loane, owner of Pasadena Pawn & Gun. "I really haven't sold any hand guns."

MEDIA SILENT AS DEMOCRATS TAKE COUNTRY 'HOSTAGE' TO DEMAND MORE SPENDING
Who are the "hostage-takers" now? Convinced by opinion polls that the media will let them get away with it, Democrats are nowrefusing to pass a "clean" continuing resolution to end the government shutdown, as well as a straightforward debt ceiling increase, in order to undo the sequester cuts that went into effect earlier this year. They are the ones holding a gun to Republicans' heads, threatening default if their demands are not met.
Just like Obamacare, the sequester--passed in the Budget Control Act of 2011--is the "law of the land." And yet Democrats want to undo it--or else they will keep nearly 400,000 federal employees out of work and let the country risk not paying its bills. Where is the outrage at this disgusting hypocrisy? Where are all the dire warnings about children with cancer and catastrophic interest rates and the end of civilization as we know it?

Neighbors: Cory Booker Never Lived In Newark
As Cory Booker looks set to win the junior Senate seat in New Jersey Wednesday, his supposed neighbors in Newark say Mayor Booker doesn’t live in the Gateway City.
Multiple residents of Newark told The Daily Caller that the longtime mayor doesn’t live at any of the addresses he has claimed as home. The mayor is believed to live in New York even though he is registered to run for New Jersey’s special senate election.
Booker, who filed to run for the U.S. Senate from a P.O. Box in Newark, is registered to vote at 435 Hawthorne Avenue but his next door neighbors told this reporter and filmmaker Joel Gilbert on camera that they haven’t seen Booker in years and that he doesn’t live there.

AMEN To This
With the start of the NFL season, perhaps all team owners should be sent the following:
From a Marine Corps Colonel in Afghanistan.
"So with all the kindness I can muster, I give this one piece of advice to the next pop star who is asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event: save the vocal gymnastics and the physical gyrations for your concerts. Just sing this song the way you were taught to sing it in kindergarten - straight up, no styling.
"Sing it with the constant awareness that there are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines watching you from bases and outposts all over the world.
Don't make them cringe with your self-centered ego gratification.
Sing it as if you are standing before a row of 86-year-old WWII vets wearing their Purple Hearts, Silver Stars and flag pins on their cardigans and you want them to be proud of you for honoring them and the country they love - not because you want them to think you are a superstar musician.
They could see that from your costume, makeup and your entourage.
Sing 'The Star Spangled Banner' with the courtesy and humility that tells the audience that it is about America, not you.
And please remember, not everything has to be sung as a Negro spiritual.

We're getting a little weary of that.
