Hillary says, "How can I best serve my  country?"

Lincoln  says,

"Go  to the theater."

Tea Party Republicans Stand Firm Against Washington 'Pigsty' As Shutdown Widens

Even as conservative Republicans vowed not to yield on their Obamacare demands for delay, President Barack Obama announced he would meet with the four top leaders of Congress at the White House on Wednesday to urge lawmakers to reopen the government and raise the U.S. debt ceiling.

Obama will meet at 5:30 p.m. EDT with Republican House Speaker John Boehner, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell.

Boehner's office said the meeting would be the start of serious talks to bridge differences that led to government agencies closing down.

Barrycades: Feds Try to Shut Down Privately Owned Mount Vernon

The National Park Service erected barricades to shut down parking lots surrounding Mount Vernon despite the fact that the tourist destination is privately owned, another example of how the feds are deliberately worsening the government shut down.

Mount Vernon is the former plantation of George Washington and is owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, which doesn’t receive any government funding. The attraction’s official website reads, “NO SHUTDOWN HERE – The Federal government may be shut down, but Washington’s home remains open. Mount Vernon has remained a private non-profit for more than 150 years.”

However, a dispute began when the National Park Service began putting up barricades to block off the facility’s car park, blockading the entrance as well as a spot where tour buses turn around.

PARENTS WARNED ABOUT PORN IN SCHOOLS

President Obama already has declared June to be homosexual “Pride” month, but “gay” activists now are designating October “LGBT History Month.”

The move has prompted a pro-family organization in California to issue a warning to parents across the United States about the possibility their children would be confronted with explicit pornography in their public schools this month.

Teachers, they explain, could introduce material that promotes homosexuality.

The homosexual-rights group Equality Forum, which is promoting LGBT History Month, is profiling various homosexuals and lesbians for each day of the month, including some whose work can accurately be described as triple-X rated.

Only 6.6% of EPA Employees Considered 'Essential'

As if we didn’t already know how useless and unnecessary the EPA is, following the government shutdown we saw just how little we really need them. When various government agencies were releasing many of their workers on furlough with lack of funding, the EPA went through its employees and decided which were “essential” and which were “non-essential”.

According to an EPA guidance, which Reuters obtained, the agency said it only had 1,069 of its 16,205 employees listed as “essential”. That is only 6.6 percent of their workforce! This guidance, which is used in the event of a government shutdown, also said that “most workers in the Office of Air and Radiation, which is in charge of writing and implementing most of the EPA’s major air pollution rules,” would be furloughed.

This Is Part Of What I Was Proposing To Bring To Salisbury As Mayor

GOVERNOR O’MALLEY, MONTGOMERY COUNTY EXECUTIVE LEGGETT AND CITY OF GAITHERSBURG MAYOR KATZ ANNOUNCE EXPANSION OF EMERGENT BIOSOLUTIONS

GAITHERSBURG, MD
– Governor Martin O’Malley joined with Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and City of Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz to announce that Emergent BioSolutions is expanding into a new headquarters building in Gaithersburg, and also plans to make improvements to its existing Research and Development site. As part of the expansion, the global pharmaceutical company will retain its existing 235 employees, and hire an additional 133 employees over the next five years.

“Emergent BioSolutions’ continued investment in Maryland helps solidify our position as a life sciences powerhouse,” said Governor O’Malley. “I am proud that Emergent BioSolutions is growing in Maryland, continuing to create jobs and working to develop life-saving vaccines that will give hope to millions of people around the world.”

“Montgomery County was thrilled to partner with the State of Maryland and the City of Gaithersburg to provide Emergent Biosolutions with strategic funding to assist with their significant headquarters expansion in the County,” said Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett. “Emergent has the only FDA-licensed anthrax vaccine on the market, 235 current jobs, plans to add 133 new jobs over five years and was in the top 20 on the Washington Business Journal's recent list of top 100 largest publicly traded companies; they are a poster-child for smart government investment, investment that will support both their continued contributions to global health and their continued contributions to the health of our local economy.”

“The City Council and I were pleased to approve the support allowing Emergent BioSolutions to relocate its headquarters to Gaithersburg," said Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney A. Katz. “We welcome them to a growing list of companies that has resulted in our City earning the reputation as an international hub for biotechnology.”

“Over the last 10 years, Emergent BioSolutions has invested and grown its presence in Maryland -- from 30 to 300 employees, from a single site to three locations, including capital investment of over $115 million -- and we continue to expand, thanks to the support of the City, County, and State,” said Robert G. Kramer, Emergent’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. “Emergent is pleased to be part of Maryland's, Montgomery County's and the City of Gaithersburg's vibrant life sciences community and looks forward to contributing further to its success.”

To assist with project costs, the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) has approved a $2 million loan, which is based on job retention and creation and capital investment. In addition, Montgomery County has approved a $750,000 grant convertible to a loan under the same terms. The City of Gaithersburg is providing a $250,000 grant convertible to a loan. The company is also eligible for a number of State and local tax credits and training programs.

Emergent BioSolutions is a specialty pharmaceutical company seeking to protect and enhance life by offering specialized products to healthcare providers and governments to address medical needs and emerging health threats. Last year, the company announced plans to partner with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to establish a Center for Innovation in Advanced Development and Manufacturing. The Center facilitates advanced development of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear medicine countermeasures, ensures domestic pandemic influenza vaccine manufacturing surge capacity, and provides workforce development training program to address the U.S. government’s preparedness priorities and needs.

Oil Falls Below $104 A Barrel As Inventories Rise

BANGKOK (AP) — Oil prices on Thursday shed some of the prior day's gains after a report showed a bump upward in U.S. crude inventories.

Benchmark oil for November delivery was down 41 cents to $103.69 per barrel at midday Bangkok time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

A report from the American Petroleum Institute showed an increase in oil supplies for the week ending Sept. 27. Stocks rose by 356,000 barrels to 363.7 million barrels from the prior week, suggesting a weakening in demand.

McAuliffe Can Buy A Gun Today, Ban Virginians' Guns Tomorrow

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe can buy a gun today and ban Virginians' guns tomorrow.

He is a gun control chameleon that does what he must to get the votes and the money needed to succeed.

This explains how he could wander into a Virginia gun store in January and make sure reporters knew he bought a Beretta shotgun, then spend the next few months campaigning on banning "assault weapons," passing universal background checks, closing the gun show loophole, and telling Virginians he will only let them buy one gun a month if he wins the governorship.

Plan to Remain Uninsured? Obama Dictatorship Will Seize Fines from Bank Account, Place Lien on Home and Suspend Drivers License Until Paid in Full

Americans attempting to sign up for government healthcare are being met with a plethora of bad surprises. If you’re one of the few able to get one of the exchange sites to work, you may find a nightmare scenario unfold before your eyes.

You see, once you register for a new government profile, answer all of the personal questions and inform the government that you are not currently insured, the exchange will come back to you with a rate quote. Most Americans are finding themselves in sticker shock as the rates are revealing themselves to be steep and unaffordable. Regardless of whether or not you sign up for a plan, the government now knows you are not insured. If you cannot afford the plan and opt-out, you receive an email informing you of what comes next.

Rand Paul: Obama Sent More Security To WWII Memorial Than Benghazi

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on Wednesday again criticized President Barack Obama over the closure of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Paul wrote a tweet contrasting the number of guards at the memorial with the alleged lack of security at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, where four people were killed in a deadly attack last year.

Appearing on Fox News Tuesday night, Paul cited the memorial closure to accuse the Obama administration of playing a "parlor game" with the government shutdown.

Problems With Financial Statements In Md. Towns, Auditors Find; Hyattsville, Sykesville, Baltimore cited

Some local governments in Maryland are having difficulty preparing adequate financial statements and getting good audit results, state auditors found.

There were 179 local government audit reports due for fiscal year 2012 — 25 counties and 154 cities and towns.

The Office of Legislative Audits (OLA) found in its report that five governments failed to obtain audits, and there were 64 instances of defective accountability. either in accounting or auditing. While most deficiencies were not material to the financial statements as a whole, the high number of problems indicates substantial room for improving financial accountability in Maryland’s counties, cities and towns.

Inaccurate Voter Roll Targeted By Taxpayers Group; City Says County Maintains List

OCEAN CITY – The voice behind the Ocean City Taxpayers for Social Justice has taken on a familiar battle in Ocean City, threatening legal action against the Mayor and City Council if action is not taken to clean up the town’s registered voter roll.

On Monday, Tony Christ, spokesperson for Ocean City Taxpayers for Social Justice (OCTSJ), submitted a letter to Ocean City Council President Lloyd Martin and the Worcester County Board of Elections announcing the group has been in touch with the board over what it believes to be peculiarities in the Voter Registration Roll for the Town of Ocean City.

“Our allegations stem from our recent involvement with the parking referendum. In that regard the County Board of Elections has emailed us a form to be used in challenging individual voters on a one-by-one basis. We will shortly begin these challenges,” Christ submitted. “However, we firmly believe it is the duty of the Town of Ocean City as well as the County Election Board to periodically check the Ocean City Voter Registration Roll and ensure that it is compliant with relevant federal, state and local law.”

Less Than 1% Of Visitors To Connecticut Healthcare Exchange Signed Up, Will Media Care?

As the Obama-loving media echo White House talking points that opening day "glitches" at online healthcare exchanges crashed Tuesday due to a flood of interested Americans clamoring for insurance, they might consider what happened in Connecticut.

According to Congressman Jim Himes (D-Conn.), out of the 28,000 visitors to his state's exchange Tuesday, only 167 actually signed up:
For those that can do math, that means 0.6 percent of visitors actually applied for insurance.

Boehner Tells Republicans He Won’t Let the Nation Default

With a budget deal still elusive and a deadline approaching on raising the debt ceiling, Speaker John A. Boehner has told colleagues that he is determined to prevent a federal default and is willing to pass a measure through a combination of Republican and Democratic votes, according to multiple House Republicans.

One lawmaker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Mr. Boehner had indicated he would be willing to violate the so-called Hastert Rule if necessary to pass a debt-limit increase. The informal rule refers to a policy of not bringing to the floor any measure that does not have a majority of Republican votes.

Open WWII Memorial Or Be Sued, Obama Told

A team of legal experts is telling President Obama something he probably wasn’t counting on when the White House, as reported by Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., decided to try to block veterans from visiting the World War II memorial in Washington.

“With due respect, Mr. President, we demand: First, that the World War II memorial be reopened immediately for all veterans, their families, and the public to honor and recognize the courage and achievement of those who fought to keep us free; Second, that the memorial be opened once again for First Amendment expressive activity by all members of the public; Third, that the barricades be taken down and removed forthwith; and Fourth, that you issue a personal apology on behalf of your administration to the veterans and their families who have been affected by the current closure.”

No Retreat, No Surrender

Republicans know they must avoid looking weak in the shutdown fight.

Republicans have partially planned and partially blundered into a government shutdown, and they appear to have no clear exit strategy. For now, many of them think it has become a test of their manhood. If they blink and pass a “clean” spending bill, they will lose face and enter talks over the looming mid-October debt-ceiling fight in a weakened position.

“We’re not going to be disrespected,” Representative Marlin Stutzman, an Indiana Republican, told the Washington Examiner. “We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.” That kind of thinking doesn’t inspire confidence.

Timing is everything. For now, Republicans are holding together, but in about a week the financial markets are likely to go down, putting immense pressure on Republicans to abandon the shutdown fight. In 2011, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by more than 15 percent over a three-week period during that fall’s budget and debt-ceiling fight.

Have We Reached Peak Government?

If we are not yet at Peak Debt, we are getting close, and that means we are also getting close to Peak Government.

Have we reached Peak Government? That is, a structural point beyond which government can no longer grow sustainably?

To help answer the question, I've assembled charts of the foundations of growth: population, gross domestic product (GDP), private employment and output per person (i.e. productivity). These have grown 28%, 75%, 28% and 58% respectively. (I have used 1990 as a baseline, as the past 23 years gives us a reasonably accurate clue as to the long-term trendlines of the current economy.)

In other words, if growth depended entirely on population growth, the real (inflation-adjusted) economy would have grown 28% since 1990. Instead, the GDP rose by 57%. This is the result of rising output per person, i.e. an increase in productivity.

SOMETHING LIFE-CHANGING HAPPENED TO AN 87-YEAR-OLD VETERAN AT THE WWII MEMORIAL

Most stories that come out of Washington, D.C. are about politics. This one is not.

On Wednesday, 87-year-old Army veteran Nick Kennedy stormed the barricaded World War II Memorial with the aim of reflecting on his time during the great war.

The World War II veteran intended to pay his respects to friends who perished in battle and look back at the sacrifices Americans made during the war.

Oath Keepers Is Going "Operational"

Forming Special "Civilization Preservation" Teams
Oath Keepers is instructing it's 30,000 members nation-wide to form up special teams and sub-teams in each Oath Keepers chapter, at the town and county level, modeled loosely on the Special Forces "A Team" (Operational Detachment A ) model, and for a similar purpose: to be both a potential operational unit for community security and support during crisis, but also, as mission #1, to serve as training and leadership cadre, to assist in organizing neighborhood watches, organizing veterans halls to provide community civil defense, forming County Sheriff Posses, strengthening existing CERT, volunteer fire, search-and-rescue, reserve deputy systems, etc., and eventually to assist in forming and training town and county militias (established by official act of town and county elected representatives). We want our chapters to organize themselves as a working model that we can then take to other veterans organizations, such as the VFW, American Legion, Marine Corps League, etc. in each town and help them establish such teams within their already existing veterans halls. And likewise, to serve as a model and training cadre to help churches, neighborhood watches, and any other civic organization organize.

We are basing this on the Special Forces model, which has a twelve man "A team" of specially trained soldiers who are inserted into a community to train and lead that community in resistance to oppressive regimes (hence their motto: "De Oppresso Liber). SF's primary mission is to teach, organize, and lead, rather than to directly fight. They can fight, of course, but they are most dangerous as a force-multiplier by helping an entire community to fight. We will do the same - be force multipliers to help prepare communities so they can preserve civilization by providing their own security, disaster relief, infrastructure preservation, emergency communications, strategic food reserve, and medical care.

In an SF team, there are:

Two communications experts
.
Two Medics
.
Two Combat Engineers
(who can do more than demolitions. They can also build bridges, dig wells, install water-treatment, irrigation systems, etc. ).

Two weapons experts
.
An Operations NCO
.
An Assistant Operations NCO
who also does intelligence.
A commanding officer, and his assistant commanding officer
.Each SF soldier is first trained to be light infantry. They all go through Army Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training (AIT)(usually at the Infantry School at Ft. Benning), Airborne School, and then the SF Selection course, where they learn land navigation (including a difficult timed night land-nav course), wilderness survival (including a graded field "survival" exercise), and patrolling (including reconnaissance, ambushes, raids, reacting to ambush, movement to contact, etc), along with a timed ruck march, obstacle course, rappelling out of helicopters, and hand-to-hand. And then they learn their specialty of one of the above - medic, commo, engineer, weapons, etc. Then they put it all together in a field training final phase where they are dropped into the fictitious country of "Pineland" (in the mountains and forests of North Carolina) and have to teach and lead the indigenous people (played by other recruits waiting to enter the training) in irregular warfare against the enemy.
Then, once they graduate and make it to Group, they all cross train, each specialized team of two training the others so they are all pretty good at all tasks, but experts within their chosen specialty. They bring each-other up to a high standard of capability. And by having two of each specialty, they have redundancy (two is one, and one is none) and the ability to split into two teams of six if needed. They can function as a very capable fighting squad if they need to, but their primary mission is to train and lead others in irregular warfare.

Oath Keepers is using that successful model and adapting it to our mission, to form Oath Keepers "Civilization Preservation Teams" (we have already received critical input from some of our Special Forces members, and are actively seeking more input from others within the Special Forces community)

If You Aren't Essential, Why Are We Paying You?

If nothing so focuses the mind as the prospect of being hanged in the morning, then being declared non-essential in a government shutdown must do the same thing for federal bureaucrats.

The horror of the "non-essential" label was so great in fact that the Office of Personnel Management, which manages the 2.1 million member federal workforce, stopped using the term a few years ago. Now the official terms are "excepted" and "non-excepted."

But "essential" and "non-essential" more precisely capture the essence of the process for how officials decide which government workers must report to work during a shutdown because America cannot do without their

Screwed? Confirmed! Don’t miss hilarious national Obamacare phone number

Fun fact: if you exclude the 1 (no associated letters), the federal Obamacare hotline is 1-800-FUCK-YO

Obamacare Is Another Private Sector Rip-Off Of Americans

The government of the “world’s only superpower,” the “exceptional,” the “indispensable” country, claims to know what is best for Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, Mali, Russia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, China, indeed for the entire world. However, the “indispensable” country cannot even govern itself, much less the world over which the “superpower” desires hegemony. The government of the “world’s only superpower” has shut itself down.
Image: Obamacare rip-off.

The government has shut itself down, because it cannot deal with the budget deficit and mounting public debt caused by twelve years of wars, by financial deregulation that allows “banks too big to fail” to loot the taxpayers, and by the loss of jobs, GDP, and tax base that jobs offshoring forced by Wall Street caused.

The Republicans are using the fight over the limit on new public debt to block Obamacare. The Republicans are right to oppose Obamacare, but they are opposing Obamacare largely for ideological reasons when there are very good sound reasons to oppose Obamacare.

Government Shutdown? 36 Facts Which Prove That Almost Everything Is Still Running

All of this whining and crying about a “government shutdown” is a total joke. You see, there really is very little reason why this “government shutdown” cannot continue indefinitely because almost everything is still running. 63 percent of all federal workers are still working, and 85 percent of all government activities are still being funded during this “shutdown”. Yes, the Obama administration has been making a big show of taking down government websites and blocking off the World War II Memorial, but overall business in Washington D.C. is being conducted pretty much as usual.
Image: Government shut down.

It turns out that the definition of “essential personnel” has expanded so much over the years that almost everyone is considered “essential” at this point. In fact, this shutdown is such a non-event that even referring to it as a “partial government shutdown” would really be overstating what is actually happening. The following are 36 facts which prove that almost everything is still running during this government shutdown…

#1 According to U.S. Senator Rand Paul, 85 percent of all government activities are actually being funded during this “government shutdown”.

ACORN Crooks On The March For Obamacare

A corrupt union ringleader who orchestrated massive campaigns involving identity fraud in furtherance of voter fraud and who covered up a million-dollar embezzlement involving pension funds will soon have unfettered access to confidential information on thousands of people seeking health insurance.

The union thug is disgraced ACORN founder Wade Rathke whose shady union will soon be helping people enroll in Obamacare exchanges.

Rathke’s labor vehicle, United Labor Unions (ULU) Local 100 in New Orleans, announced on its Facebook page Sept. 15 that it was gearing up “to do mass enrollment and help navigate people into the marketplaces in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas under the Affordable Care Act!”

“Local 100′s role as a Navigator, suggest[s] the program is less about health care and more about building a new progressive infrastructure,” says longtime ACORN-watcher Mike Flynn of Breitbart.com.

Three Years Later, TheTeaParty.net Finally Gets IRS Tax-Exempt OK

One of the groups at the center of the IRS scandal has finally received its tax-exempt status after a three-year delay prompted by a politically driven move to block Tea Party and other conservative groups, many that slammed the president during his re-election, from winning the special status.

TheTeaParty.net, one of the nation's largest Tea Party groups, told Secrets that the long-sought declaration arrived Monday, well over three years after they applied for 501c(4) tax-exempt status in March of 2010, the start of the Tea Party movement. The notice came in a letter from the IRS.

The group said it endured harassment by agents targeting mostly conservative non-profit groups for their political donors, agenda and even reading lists, all against the rules. Those agents were headed by the recently retired Lois Lerner.

A Message From Daniel Bongino

Why is the administration and their congressional allies making the government slowdown even more painful for you?

The facts:
Our national monuments have never been barricaded before through numerous government shutdowns. Having been behind the scenes during my time within the White House walls, I am sure this was a political calculation that was solely designed to hurt the American people. Barricades cost money to move and install and are completely unnecessary, but they do serve a purpose. They make for wonderful press photos and serve as visual reminders of what you cannot do and where you cannot go. To sum up; insider politicos are spending your money, in a time of fiscal crisis, to buy barricades to keep you away from your monuments.

Even worse, there are national parks across the country which accept NO federal funds, and are maintained by private entities, who are being ordered to shut down to the public. Incredibly, the private operators are being ordered to spend their own money to purchase barriers to keep the public out of their own parks.

Folks, no one wants a government shutdown but I implore you to please be skeptical of media reports of the administration's benevolence in this. They have refused to budge an inch on even the most modest #Obamacare reforms, the President has publicly stated that he "will not negotiate" and Senate Dems have compared their opposition to terrorists.

I simply cannot accept the fact that this is the best we can do. It's not their country, it's ours and we deserve better.

CHRIS MATTHEWS SAYS OBAMA HAS FINALLY MET HIS MATCH – AND YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHICH ‘BRILLIANT’ LAWMAKER HE CITED

MSNBC host Chris Matthews said Tuesday that President Obama has finally met his match in Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

Yes, the same person he has referred to as a political “terrorist” and compared to notorious Nazi sympathizer Father Coughlin.

Matthews’ comments were made shortly after he referred to the Texas senator’s Obamacare defund strategy as “brilliant.”

“I think Ted Cruz is brilliant,” Matthews said Tuesday morning during a discussion on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“The president has met his match in this guy. He set this thing up months ago with no budget agreement, therefore no appropriations, therefore the government would be completely exposed this morning, at midnight last night, to completely shut down. He knows what he’s doing,” he adds.

The MSNBC host added that one thing in particular made Cruz’s strategy “brilliant”: Going after Obamacare.

“It’s about the baby, Obama’s baby,” Matthews said, referring to President Obama’s landmark health care overhaul. “You can’t cut the baby in half.”

The Quote Of The Decade

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

The Alma Mater

Dear Fr. Jenkins,

Having just returned from an enjoyable 5 days at our beautiful university ( other than the loss to Oklahoma), I was able to learn the reason behind the confusion at the close of the game over the singing of The Alma Mater. According to Coach Kelly's quote, a decision was made two years ago not to sing The Alma Mater after a home loss.

This tradition which was begun under Coach Weis is one of the most beautiful and moving traditions associated with Notre Dame Athletics. Time and again I have listened to non-Domers speak in admiration of this gesture, including many of our visitors from Oklahoma for this game. Even an occasional TV commentator will make such comments when the video stream has continued following the end of the game.

Such a tradition epitomizes the oneness of the student-athletes and the entire student body. While all Domers were upset over the loss, we Domers, especially current students, do not fault our players. We win together and we lose together ( hopefully not very often). The students in the stands Saturday willingly embraced our players and sang to Our Lady as they have done so many times in the past. Domers and members of the Notre Dame Family all around the stadium wrapped arms around each other and sang in unison. This should never be taken away from them, nor from the players.

Coach Kelly may need to be excused for not fully appreciating how uplifting and comforting is our Alma Mater ( even following a loss), as he is not a Domer. You, Fr. Jenkins, and every other Domer certainly do. Singing Notre Dame Our Mother, is just as emotional and moving for me today as it was over 40 years ago when I sang it for the first time. If there were to be only one musical selection following a loss, it should be our Alma Mater. The words are so appropriate.

This is clearly a decision on the field that begs to be overturned and I implore you to do everything in your power to restore this truly exceptional Notre Dame tradition.

Sincerely,
Paul DiGaetano, ND '75

O’Malley Says Maryland Will Consider Tapping Reserve Fund To Deal With Federal Shutdown

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) said Tuesday that the state could try to lessen the impact of a lengthy federal government shutdown by tapping a $100 million fund set up by the legislature to deal with the consequences of the federal sequestration process.

“We have flexibility on how to use these funds, and we’re actively assessing all of our options so that we can minimize the harmful effects of prolonged congressional recklessness on Maryland families and businesses,” O’Malley said in a statement.

Furloughs of federal workers during a government shutdown could cost Maryland $5 million a day in income and sales tax collections, according to an analysis prepared by O’Malley’s budget advisers that became public last week.

Ben Carson's Obama Critique Prompts IRS Visit

Former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Ben Carson reportedly got a surprise visit from the IRS after he sharply criticized Washington public policy, including Obamacare, at a gathering that included President Barack Obama.

Carson told business leaders and elected officials in Alabama on Monday night that his first-ever "encounter" with the agency followed his fiery speech at a National Prayer Breakfast in February, Yellow Hammer News reported.

Finding Out About Obamacare

There’s a real reform that Congress should have passed — and should still pass.

Nancy Pelosi promised that we would all find out what Obamacare entailed after the billed was passed. Last week I did.

I run a small company with 18 employees on its payroll. We have a health-insurance plan administered by Anthem Blue Cross. Last week, Blue Cross notified us that unless we renewed our plan immediately, accepting an 11.3 percent increase in our rates, we would have to accept the new Obamacare rates, which will go into effect in January 2014. These would entail a 38.2 percent increase.

I don’t like being shaken down like this. But business is business, and an 11 percent hit beats 38 percent, so I took the offer. But that will only postpone the problem. Starting next year, we will have to pay the full burden of the new higher Obamacare health-insurance rates.

ENTIRE State Of Nevada Scores Obamacare Waiver

Nevada got a partial waiver from the health care law - a significant development that Democrats are dismissing as par for the course and Republicans are claiming as a political victory.

The Health and Human Services Department announced late Friday that Nevada had secured a statewide waiver from certain implementation requirements of the Obama administration's health care law, because forcing them through, the department found, "may lead to the destabilization of the individual market."

The announcement makes Nevada one of only three states to have compliance requirements under the health care bill waived.

Bikers Busted During Rally For Injured Rider

A planned show of support for a biker who was severely injured in a wild chase on the West Side Highway was a bust Wednesday night, as only 10 cyclists showed up.

The crew was planning to assemble 100 bikers in East New York and ride all the way to St Luke’s Hospital where Edwin Mieses, 32, is in a medically-induced coma.

But police vans, flatbed trucks, and motorcycles were waiting for the gang to show up. About two dozen rode to the meeting area, but some had gotten texts that the cops were waiting and only 10 actually stopped.

91% Of The IRS Has Been Furloughed: Here Is Who Else Got The Government Shut Down Axe

For all the drama surrounding today's political drama (which came and went largely unnoticed by a stock market hypnotized by the Federal Reserve), the bottom line is that the key impact of last night's historic government shutdown has been nothing more (or less) than the temporary unpaid leave of absence, i.e. furloughs (with all accrued, owed payments promptly being remitted once the government is unhalted) of some 815,932 civilian government workers, out of a total of 2 million, or a 41% furlough rate.

As the WSJ tabulates [4]"some agencies, such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, are seeing all but a handful of their employees go home without pay. Others, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security, kept the vast majority of their workers on the job. Certain divisions of government, such as the U.S. Postal Service and the Federal Reserve, don’t operate under the normal appropriations process and their staffing remained unaffected." Then again one wonders: with 91% of the IRS' total 94,516 workers stuck at home, downloading porn, is the government shutdown really such an evil outcome?
