Syria Vote: Obama Working To Sway Skeptical Members
The White House spent the Labor Day holiday hard at work, using every means possible to try to win over skittish lawmakers on military strikes against Syria.
Many members of Congress still have grave doubts, even after Monday's conference calls, briefings and in-person meetings, but two key lawmakers offered their support.
Emerging from a meeting with President Barack Obama Monday, Republican Sens. Lindsay Graham and John McCain said the president assured them he had a strategy to strengthen the rebels and weaken Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.

Texas Prison Guards To Join Inmate Lawsuit Over Sweltering Jails
Talk about unlikely bedfellows.
The union that represents Texas’ correctional officers has reportedly announced its support of lawsuits filed over the deaths of at least 14 inmates in sweltering state prisons, claiming the institutions should be cooled to relieve unbearable conditions.
Lance Lowry, president of the local American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees, said the union intends to join pending litigation, including a possible request for federal court intervention over temperatures inside prisons that purportedly reach 130 degrees on some summer days, the Austin American-Statesman reports.

NUCLEAR-POWERED USS NIMITZ CARRIER REROUTED FOR POSSIBLE SYRIA ATTACK, OFFICIALS SAY
The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and other ships in its strike group are heading west toward the Red Sea in case they’re needed to support a U.S. attack on Syria, defense officials told Reuters Sunday.
The Nimitz strike group includes four destroyers and a cruiser and is moving west in the Arabian Sea so it can enter the eastern Mediterranean if need be. The group had not yet entered the Red Sea Sunday evening, one official told Reuters.
“It’s about leveraging the assets to have them in place should the capabilities of the carrier strike group and the presence be needed,” said the official.

EVIDENCE U.S. BRIBED MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD OFFICIALS
Document surfaces ahead of criminal trial of ousted leaders
A question apparently being raised in next week’s trial in Cairo of Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leaders facing criminal charges is this: Was the Obama administration paying bribes as large as $850,000 a year to the Morsi government that were distributed by top ministerial level officials to Muslim Brotherhood leaders, with the direct involvement of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo?
WND is in possession of an official document from inside the Morsi government that lends credibility to a report published in Arabic by an Egyptian newspaper in Cairo that lists the charges brought by the current military-controlled government against Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leaders.
As seen above, WND has obtained official records from the deposed Morsi government in Egypt, with signatures, documenting monthly “gifts” paid to Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Egypt by the former prime minister and foreign minister of Qatar, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani.
The document was seized from Egyptian government offices in Cairo when the Morsi government was deposed by the military July 3.
As translated by former PLO member and native Arabic-speaker Walid Shoebat, the monthly “gifts” listed in the document amount to bribes paid by the Morsi government to leading Muslim Brotherhood members in Egypt, including an annual payment of $750,000 to $850,000 in U.S. dollars.

BREAKTHROUGH: COPS IDENTIFY RACE OF SUSPECTS
Black mob violence is back in Minneapolis.
Some say it never stopped, and if you depend on the local newspaper for information, you might think it never started. But Minneapolis police recently issued a “crime alert” for the downtown area following a rash of mob robberies and assaults.

The Compulsion To Rule
Why are so many men and women driven to seek and to exercise political power? If you were to judge their motivations on the basis of promises they make, you might conclude that they desire to promote the well-being of our society, or of all mankind; or to end injustice and promote the rights and interests of the poor and down-trodden; to protect children; to defend the country from foreign aggressors; to generate economic prosperity; or to advance other noble ends that serve the public interest. Our willingness to accept such benevolent objectives as the explanation for a few wanting coercive power over the many, is a reflection of our gullibility.
The question of whether people are to control their own lives, energies, and resources for their own ends, or whether they are to be subservient to the interests of those who want to forcibly control others, has been with us from our beginnings. The impulse to advance one’s interests by controlling others can probably be traced to our earliest so-called “primitive” ancestors. While male tribe members were off hunting for a gazelle, one bright young man might have figured out a less burdensome way of being provided for. “Why should I spend so much of my energy chasing a bunch of wild animals around in the hot sun, especially when the other guys are better hunters than I?,” he reasons. He then concocts the following scheme and presents it to his fellow tribesmen. “I am in contact with the gods who control the world in which we live. They can inform me of how best to capture gazelles, how to protect our tribe from the deadly ‘Nine Bows’ from across the river, and how to organize our tribe for our betterment. I can pass this information on to you, and if you obey what I tell you, our lives will be better.” In such primordial ways was politics invented, allowing the few to control the many.

Nyad 1st To Swim To Florida From Cuba Without Cage
KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) -- Looking dazed and sunburned, U.S. endurance swimmer Diana Nyad walked on to the shore Monday, becoming the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the help of a shark cage.
The 64-year-old Nyad swam up to the beach just before 2 p.m. EDT, about 53 hours after she began her journey in Havana on Saturday. As she approached, spectators waded into waist-high water and surrounded her, taking pictures and cheering her on.
"I have three messages. One is, we should never, ever give up. Two is, you're never too old to chase your dream. Three is, it looks like a solitary sport, but it is a team," she said on the beach.

Spying USA
One of the core principles of good governance in society is the idea that the authority of law ought to prevail over the brute power of people — i.e., that society should operate under therule of law, not the rule of men. Aristotle wrote that “[t]he law ought to be supreme over all …” and argued that … where the laws are not supreme, there demagogues spring up.” The principle has many important ramifications for society, but the most important is the view that government agents and agencies must be bound by the same law as their subjects.
This principle is of great relevance in the present NSA scandals, especially in light of recent NSA admissions of “compliance problems” with the legal constraints that are supposed to operate on the agency. For ordinary citizens, “compliance problems” with the law are better known as “crimes” (or possibly civil wrongs) and these lead to judgment debts, fines, and possibly even jail time, depending on the severity of the lack-of-compliance. But for government officials such notions are irrelevant — legal compliance problems are just something you file a report about, and send to another bureaucrat higher up in the government chain, so that he can bury it on his desk.

CIA Finds 1 In 5 Flagged Job Applicants Hail From Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda
An estimated one-fifth of a subset of all applicants for Central Intelligence Agency positions had significant ties to the terror groups Hamas, Hezbollah and al Qaeda, a newly released document from the Edward Snowden collection revealed Monday.
The document — released by Mr. Snowden as part of his National Security Agency intelligence dump — said the terrorist groups worked hard to infiltrate America’s top security agencies. CIA officials uncovered thousands of applicants, roughly one in five of a subset, with “significant terrorist and/or hostile intelligence connections,” the document states, as Ynet News reported.
The specifics of those ties were not revealed, but the groups most often cited as attempting to infiltrate the U.S. intelligence network were al Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah.

Labor Day woes: US workers still worried about their jobs
American workers remain almost as concerned about their jobs as they were five years ago, according to a new poll by Gallup.
Forty-three percent of Americans still fear their benefits will be cut, down slightly from 46 percent in 2009. Thirty-one percent believe their wages will be reduced, down from 32 percent in 2009.
Twenty-nine percent of Americans still believe they will be laid off, hardly changed from the 32 percent who believed the same five years ago. One quarter of Americans believe their hours will be cut back, down from 27 percent five years ago.

IRS Continues To Hound Tea Party Patriots, Demands More Data
The initial firestorm surrounding the Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of conservative groups may have subsided, but tea party leaders say the situation has only become worse and may lead to more lawsuits against the embattled agency.
New documents show the depth of information the IRS is seeking from Tea Party Patriots, a leading conservative group that first applied for 501(c)(4) tax-exempt status in late 2010 and one of many organizations singled out for extra scrutiny by the Obama administration.

B&O Museum To Hold Exhibit Yard Sale
The B&O Railroad Museum is cleaning out its surplus of trains and putting thousands of items on sale in an upcoming yard sale.
The museum is putting its little treasures up for sale in its round house on Sept. 7.
"It's one of those things where, when they come off exhibit, what do you do with them? You put them in storage. The reality is they don't see the light of day again, so this is a great opportunity for us to clear out some space and for people to get some memories themselves," explained museum Chief Curator Dave Shackelford.

House Republicans Advocate Path, Not Pathway, To Citizenship
A central question Congress is wrestling with over the current proposed immigration legislation is whether the 11 million immigrants already in the United States illegally should get a path to citizenship.
And surprisingly, the answer from a small but growing number of House Republicans is "yes," just as long as it's not the "special" path advocated by Democrats and passed by the Senate.
"There should be a pathway to citizenship — not a special pathway and not no pathway," Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told ABC 4 Utah after speaking at a recent town hall meeting in his district. "But there has to be a legal, lawful way to go through this process that works, and right now it doesn't."

NEW YORK – While President Obama seemingly punted the Syria question to Congress, Damascus is not leaving anything to chance, still preparing for the possibility of an immediate attack from the U.S., according to informed Middle Eastern security officials speaking to WND.
Further, the officials said a Russian intelligence warning delivered to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad recommended the Syrian leader keep his forces on its highest alert.

Egypt's Former President Morsi To Be Tried For Inciting Violence, Top Prosecutor Says
Egypt's top prosecutor referred Sunday ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi to trial on charges of inciting the killing of opponents protesting outside his palace while he was in office, the state news agency said.
The military ousted Morsi on July 3 after millions took to the street demanding he step down. He's been held incommunicado since. Despite other accusations by prosecutors, Sunday's decision is his first referral to trial. No date was announced for the trial.

Launch May Start Something Big On Eastern Shore
NASA's first deep-space mission to launch from Virginia's Eastern Shore is scheduled for Friday, and while all eyes are on the sky, most of the uncertainty swirls around what will happen on the ground, on tiny Chincoteague Island, where hotels, restaurants and traffic cops must deal with thousands of spectators.
On one hand, the town has experience: every summer, it deals with an estimated 15,000 tourists who come for the famous pony roundup. But Friday's spectacle is different in so many ways.
NASA's visitor center on Va. 175, a popular spot for watching rocket launches from the Wallops Flight Facility, will be closed to the public to accommodate at least 1,000 VIPs expected by the space agency. In addition, the beaches of adjacent Assateague Island - which can park 989 vehicles - will be closed because the rocket's trajectory places the shoreline in a hazard zone.
That leaves the island with two official viewing spots, limited parking and potentially thousands of spectators trying to cram in.

GUN OWNERS TURN OHIO GUN-CONTROL RALLY INTO 'AN NRA RALLY'
As six members of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's gun control group rallied for more gun laws on August 30, about 50 gun rights supporters hijacked the event and said that there are enough gun laws already.
According to 10TV.com, the Columbus, Ohio rally was hosted by members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns but ended up looking "more like an NRA rally."
When organizer Blanche Luczyk took to the mic and tried to claim Ronald Reagan would support more background checks she was met with shouts of "Germany 1933" and "Hitler." (Earlier this year, Breitbart News did a report on Ronald Reagan and background checks--those who claim he would have supported Senator Joe Manchin's gun control scheme are badly mistaken.)

EXCLUSIVE–US CIVIL RIGHTS COMMISSIONER: AMNESTY MEANS SPECIAL, NOT EQUAL, TREATMENT
Peter Kirsanow, a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, told Breitbart News that Attorney General Eric Holder’s claims that amnesty for illegal immigrants is a civil rights issue “profoundly ahistorical.”
“If you take a look at the basis of the civil rights movement, it was to have blacks treated in all respects the same as whites or everybody else,” Kirsanow (pictured) said in a phone interview. “What amnesty is doing is setting aside a special class of individuals who are going to put forward and treated more favorably than others. In other words, they’ve already broken the law and are being given amnesty.

U.S. Spy Network’s Successes, Failures And Objectives Detailed In ‘Black Budget’ Summary
U.S. spy agencies have built an intelligence-gathering colossus since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, but remain unable to provide critical information to the president on a range of national security threats, according to the government’s top-secret budget.
The $52.6 billion “black budget” for fiscal 2013, obtained by The Washington Post from former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, maps a bureaucratic and operational landscape that has never been subject to public scrutiny. Although the government has annually released its overall level of intelligence spending since 2007, it has not divulged how it uses the money or how it performs against the goals set by the president and Congress.
