The Race For Salisbury's Next Mayor Is Decided

Mayor Jim Ireton and Joe Albero will face off without a primary. While there have been many suggestions and even threats that others will be joining the race for Mayor, that ended just moments ago at 4:30 PM as no one else put their hat into the ring.

So the race for Mayor in a April 2, 2013 election is on, period.

A Day To Pray

Sunday, January 20, 2013

Join me for "A Day to Pray", where we will ask God to grant our leaders, from the local school houses to the White House, the wisdom they need for the road ahead. We will gather to ask God for forgiveness and healing of our land and to bless our Country and her people. This will not be a political rally but a spiritual event and hopefully one that can help bring us together as we move forward as a nation.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." - 2 Chronicles 7:14

House Passes $50 Billion-Plus Sandy Aid Package

Lawmakers in the House of Representatives approved measures Tuesday to send more than $50 billion in aid to the Northeastern states ravaged by Superstorm Sandy last fall, though some conservatives in the House were pushing for spending cuts that would offset the cost of the recovery package.

The final bill passed 241-180, with 49 Republicans voting against it. The package now heads to the Senate.

In a joint statement, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy praised members of the House for pulling together in a "unified, bipartisan coalition" for the vote.

Are Longer Post-Office Lines In Your Future?

The Postal Service's Board of Governors is directing the agency to speed up restructuring initiatives to cut costs. But an agency statement does not describe what those steps may be. Meanwhile, arbitrators have finalized a new contractbetween the postal service and its letter carriers. It includes modest pay raises and a no-layoff clause. But new letter carriers would start at a lower wage and all would have to pay more for health care. The agency lost nearly $16 billion last year.

Raising The Federal Borrowing Limit

Treasury Secretary Tim Geither is warning lawmakers that they may have only until mid-February to raise the federal borrowing limit. In a letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Geithner says by next month or early March at the latest Treasury will have exhausted the "extraordinary measures" that it's been using to avoid a default. Meanwhile, President Barack Obama yesterday said failure to raise the debt ceiling could delay veterans' benefits, military paychecks and federal contracts. While that could happen, the administration would have some discretion in which bills to pay.

U.K. OFFICIAL TO OBAMA: BUTT OUT

A prominent member of the British Parliament is telling Barack Obama to butt out of his nation’s affairs.

MP Gerard Batten, in an interview with Russia Today, was responding to U.S. comments about what the U.K. should do with regard to its future in the economically troubled European Union, which has been bludgeoned by the near-collapse of members such as Greece.

“This is a direct attempt to interfere in British domestic policies … and they are trying to frighten the British people,” Batten said.

“The politest thing I can say today is that President Obama should butt out of British affairs.”

White House Tells Paul Ryan It Won’t Meet Budget Deadline

The White House has informed House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) that it will miss the legal deadline for sending a budget to Congress.

Acting Budget Director Jeff Zients told Ryan in a letter delivered Friday that the budget will not be delivered by Feb. 4, as required by law.

Zients blamed the delay on the late passage of the “fiscal cliff” deal, and wrote that the administration is “working diligently on our budget request.”

Under the law, President Obama must submit a budget by the first Monday in February, but he has met the deadline only once. The annual budget submission is supposed to start a congressional budgeting process, but that has also broken down. The Senate last passed a budget resolution in 2009.

Cuomo Signs Gun Legislation Into Law

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law on Tuesday a sweeping package of gun control measures, significantly expanding a ban on assault weapons and making New York the first state to change its laws in response to the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

Mr. Cuomo signed the bill less than an hour after the State Assembly approved the legislation on a 104-to-43 vote. The State Senate approved the measure, 43 to 18, on Monday night.

The expanded ban on assault weapons broadens the definition of such weapons, banning semiautomatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and one military-style feature, as well as semiautomatic shotguns with one military-style feature. New Yorkers who already own such guns can keep them but will be required to register them with the state.

Crime Reported To Law Enforcement Nationwide Rises

The number of violent crimes and property crimes reported to police rose in the first half of last year compared with the same period in 2011, with violent crime rising 1.9 percent and property crime up 1.5 percent.

The preliminary data compiled by the FBI shows that violent crime increased 0.7 percent in metropolitan counties and 0.6 percent in non-metropolitan counties. Violent crime increased in each of the nation’s four regions — 3.1 percent in the West, 2.5 percent in the Midwest, 1.1 percent in the South and 1.1 percent in the Northeast.

Americans Applied To Buy More Than 5.5 Million Guns In The Last Two Months

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) received more than 2 million requests for background checks in November and more than 2.7 million in December, Jim Hoft of The Gateway Pundit reports.
The staggering stats — both months set new records — reflect the surge in gun sales after the mass shootings in Aurora, Colo. and Newtown, Conn. in addition to the subsequent national discussion regarding gun control.

Although the FBI says there is not a one-to-one correlation between a firearm background check and a firearm sale, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence notes that current federal law requires criminal background checks only for guns sold through licensed firearm dealers (which account for 60 percent of all gun sales in the U.S.).

Congressional Offices Continue to Illegally Download Movies and TV Shows

In late October, someone at the U.S. House of Representatives decided to catch up on the latest season of Dexter, illegally downloading an episode of the TV series while at a congressional office. In the days that followed, with Hurricane Sandy threatening to keep federal workers hunkered down at home, employees of Congress downloaded the 2012 mob filmLawless, a Halloween-themed episode of The Middle, and an episode from Season 9 of CSI: New York.

Over the last four months, employees of the House of Representatives have illegally downloaded dozens of films and TV shows, according to a report shared with Whispers byScanEye, a website that tracks what IP addresses have downloaded on BitTorrent. BitTorrent is a protocol for sharing large files over the Internet. Unauthorized downloads of copyrighted material is illegal in the U.S.

Whispers was able to ascertain a number of IP addresses associated with Congress using the IP geo-location websiteMaxMind. The report does not include IP addresses associated with every congressional office, so the number of illegal downloads may be higher.

Bail For Illegal Immigrants In Question Before Md. High Court

Maryland's top court could make it much more difficult for undocumented immigrants to secure bail bonds, in a case likely to resolve long-standing questions about whether bondsmen are on the hook when clients get deported before trial.

In a case pending at the Court of Appeals, Big Louie Bail Bonds has been ordered to pay more than $100,000 in Baltimore County in bail forfeitures after 10 defendants were deported before their criminal trials. Lower courts ruled that the company knew — or should have known — it was taking on clients with a high risk of deportation.

"We can't afford to be in business like that. It just won't be worth it," said Luis Contreras, one of the owners of Big Louie, a Baltimore-based company that writes more than 800 bonds a year in the Hispanic community.

DELEGATE MIKE MCDERMOTT PRESS RELEASE

‘Repealing The Sustainable Growth and Agricultural Act of 2012 (SB - 236) - A Bill that Hurts Farmers in the Name of Preserving Them’

(ANNAPOLIS) -- “Last year, the General Assembly took away decision making authority from our local governments under SB-236
. In the name of ‘preservation’, they gave us restrictions, and in the name of ‘planning’, they have now taken control. Currently, many local governments are waiting and hoping that some relief will come during the 2013 Session, and I am hoping to do just that with the Repeal of SB- 236” said Delegate Michael A. McDermott (Worcester and Wicomico Counties). At the end of last year’s Regular Session, the Maryland legislature passed the Sustainable Growth and Agricultural Preservation Act (‘The Septic Bill’ or SB236). This bill was passed after a heated debate over the state’s authority in local planning matters because it requires county governments to adopt a four-tier system into their planning maps. Based on septic and sewer use, this new system will allow the Maryland Department of Planning and the Maryland Department of the Environment to control the growth of residential developments in agricultural areas and makes the state the final arbitor of, what used to be, local zoning decision making. Under the Septic Bill, the county will be majorly limited in what it can authorize or plan if the four-tier system is not adopted. County governments cannot allow new major subdivisions to be built without submitting the plans to the Maryland Department of Planning.

“The passing of last year’s ‘Septic Bill’ hurts farmers in the name of preserving them. It takes away local sovereignty by employing a cookie cutter approach dictated by Annapolis bureaucrats. Maryland needs to recognize the importance of local farmers to our economy, the environment, our collective heritage, and the economic viability of a vast portion of Maryland’s economy” stated Delegate McDermott. The four-tier system creates severe restrictions on the installation of septic systems in larger residential developments and rural areas. Tier I areas are currently served by sewer lines, Tier II areas are designated as ‘growth areas’ where sewer lines are planned to extend to, Tier III areas are not planned for sewer lines or zoned for agricultural uses - but septic systems can be installed as an alternative, and Tier IV areas are designated as ‘conservation areas’ not planned for sewer lines. In areas designated as Tier IV, the building of large subdivisions and the installation of septic systems are banned. This tier system has caused grief to many Marylanders who believe that the development restrictions will cause significant land devaluation at a time when their property values have already been reduced by the recessionary economy. Those who own farms are worried that a reduction of their land value will also mean a reduction of the money they can borrow for supplies and equipment when times are tight.

“Many Marylanders did not have the chance to understand the significance of this 52 page piece of legislation as presented last year. The bill I dropped, repealing SB-236, should afford those voices a second chance to address the many challenges this legislation created”, concluded Delegate McDermott. Delegate McDermott ‘dropped’ the bill which will repeal SB236 on Tuesday, January 15th. He has gathered support for the bill and is waiting on a hearing date.

Republican Establishment Declares War On GOP Voters

The following article by Scott Rasmussen offers an excellent description of the escalating battle in America between the citizenry on the ground and the political oligarchs in Washington D.C. He examines the Republican Party, which after nominating two of the worst candidates possible in the last two elections (and sabotaging Ron Paul) is in total crisis mode as a political party. From Rasmussen Reports:

Politico explained that while Washington Democrats have always viewed GOP voters as a problem, Washington Republicans “in many a post-election soul-searching session” have come to agree.

As seen from the halls of power, the problem is that Republican voters think it’s OK to replace incumbent senators and congressman who don’t represent the views of their constituents. In 2012, for example, Republican voters in Indiana dumped longtime Sen. Richard Lugar in a primary battle.

So, according to Politico, the Washington team is gearing up a new effort to protect incumbents and limit the ability of Republican voters to successfully challenge establishment candidates.

Clinton To Testify On Benghazi Next Week

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will testify next Wednesday on the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, incoming chairman Ed Royce (R-Calif.) announced late Monday.

Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans died in the attack on a U.S. mission in the restive Libyan city. Republicans have assailed the administration for failing to provide adequate protection to its diplomats and for initially saying the attack was linked to a peaceful protest.

“I appreciate Secretary Clinton’s desire and willingness to testify before the Committee as we continue to examine this deadly terrorist attack in an effort to ensure that nothing like it happens again,” Royce said in a statement. “My intention is for this hearing to focus on why this attack was not better anticipated, what leadership failures at the State Department existed, and what management deficiencies need to be corrected in order to better secure our diplomatic facilities abroad and protect our diplomats serving in them.

Remembering Internet Prodigy And Activist Aaron Swartz (1986-2013)

It takes a person like Aaron Swartz to remind you how little you are actually doing to bring forth social, political and economic justice in this increasingly insane and sick world. I’m not exaggerating when I say his life was an inspiration. At 14 years old he helped start the RSS feed system, which so many now use to read content online. He also co-founded Reddit, and its sale to Conde Nast is what afforded him the resources to dedicate his life to the defense of a free and open internet. His most remarkable success in this regard was the creation of the organization Demand Progress, which was instrumental in defeating the internet censorship bill know as SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act).

He ran afoul of the law due to his actions in the fall of 2010 when he downloaded millions of academic journal articles from the nonprofit online database JSTOR. While JSTOR could have pursued charges against Aaron for his activities, they decided against it. However, our Federal Government was not so kind. They decided to make an example of Aaron and charged him with multiple felonies. Charges that carried up to 35 years in prison and $1 million in fines. Aaron was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment this past Friday, in an apparent suicide.

If you had asked me about Aaron Swartz three days ago I could have told you none of the above. This is despite the fact that I now spend pretty much all of my time trying to read through news and understand the true nature of the world around me. Even more pathetically, it is despite the fact that a close friend of mine had met Aaron this past summer and was trying to coordinate a time for us all to meet. Sadly, we never connected.

GOVERNOR TO FILE LEGISLATION TO REPEAL DEATH PENALTY IN MARYLAND

GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ANNOUNCES ADMINISTRATION TO FILE LEGISLATION TO REPEAL DEATH PENALTY IN MARYLAND

ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 15, 2013) – Governor Martin O’Malley today announced that the Administration will introduce legislation to repeal the death penalty this session. The Governor’s remarks as delivered are attached and available here.

Defenders of Constitution Don’t Always Use It For Law

Each of them takes an oath to defend the Constitution, but many House lawmakers either don’t understand the founding document or don’t take its precepts seriously, according to an analysis by The Washington Times that studied the constitutional backing that representatives submitted for each of the more than 3,000 bills they introduced in 2011.

Under rules that the new Republican majority put into place, each House member introducing a bill must cite specific parts of the Constitution that they think grant Congress the authority to take the action they are proposing.

The first year’s worth of action was less than inspiring for adherents of the founding document: Many lawmakers ignored the rule, while others sliced and diced the clauses to justify what they were trying to do. One thumbed his nose at the exercise altogether, saying it’s up to the courts, not Congress, to determine what is constitutional.

US ORDERED DELAY IN INTERN'S ARREST

Federal immigration agents were prepared to arrest an illegal immigrant and registered sex offender days before the November elections but were ordered by Washington to hold off after officials warned of "significant interest" from Congress and news organizations because the suspect was a volunteer intern for Sen. Robert Menendez, according to internal agency documents provided to Congress.

The Homeland Security Department said last month, when The Associated Press first disclosed the delayed arrest of Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavaleta, that AP's report was "categorically false."

Sanchez, 18, was an immigrant from Peru who has overstayed a visitor visa that allowed him to enter the United States. He eventually was arrested at his home in New Jersey on Dec. 6. He has since been released from an immigration jail and is facing deportation. Sanchez has declined to speak to the AP.

Gun Control And Political Correctness

Silence rarely conveys knowledge, especially when it’s the result of intimidation. There are moments when it’s prudent to remain silent, but hardly when you’re in the midst of a gun ownership debate. The political class, and its anti-gun proponents, are today engaged in a massive legal assault on citizen gun ownership through regulation and/or abolition. Their arguments are well-known and much has been written on the subject, both in favor and in opposition to the idea.

Unfortunately, silence due to "political correctness" is hampering a frank and honest discussion of the fundamental issue of citizen gun ownership. While gun ownership for personal protection or sporting uses are being heatedly defended, these are only secondary considerations to the more critical concern over citizen ownership of guns. The preeminent and fundamental case for gun ownership by citizens is to secure and preserve the means for individuals to safeguard their lives and property from a potentially threatening oppressive government.

Of course this tends to sound paranoid, for after all, most citizens today view our government as a responsive political institution, primarily engaged in helping its citizens to secure a better quality of life. Such common sentiments about one’s government are not new. Even the Germans shared such a view of their own government at the beginning of the 20th century. So, to express concerns today that our politicians and bureaucrats could someday turn against their own citizens and inflict violent harm upon them is harshly condemned by many as being ludicrous.

Maryland Lawmaker Proposes Bottle, Can Deposit Bill

Consumers would pay a 5 cent refundable deposit on cans and bottles bought in Maryland under legislation Del. Maggie McIntosh plans to introduce during the current General Assembly.

The bill, which McIntosh will roll out later this month, is expected to more than triple the percentage of cans and bottles that are recycled in Maryland to as much as 75 percent. Currently, about 22 percent of the 4 billion cans and bottles purchased in Maryland each year are recycled, said McIntosh, the chairwoman of the House Environmental Matters committee.

The low percentage means that too many beverage containers wind up in the Inner Harbor and other state waterways and along the state’s roads, McIntosh said at a news conference Monday on the Inner Harbor waterfront.

Biden: W.H. Readies 19 Executive Actions On Guns

The White House has identified 19 executive actions for President Barack Obama to move unilaterally on gun control, Vice President Joe Biden told a group of House Democrats on Monday, the administration’s first definitive statements about its response to last month’s mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Later this week, Obama will formally announce his proposals to reduce gun violence, which are expected to include renewal of the assault weapons ban, universal background checks and prohibition of high-capacity magazine clips. But Biden, who has been leading Obama’s task force on the response, spent two hours briefing a small group of sympathetic House Democrats on the road ahead in the latest White House outreach to invested groups.

QUOTES OF THE DAY 1-15-13

“There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him.”
Robert A. Heinlein, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress

“Secrecy is the keystone to all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy and censorship. When any government or church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, “This you may not read, this you must not know,” the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man who has been hoodwinked in this fashion; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, whose mind is free. No, not the rack nor the atomic bomb, not anything. You can’t conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him.”
Robert A. Heinlein

“I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”
Robert A. Heinlein

“Progress isn’t made by early risers. It’s made by lazy men trying to find easier ways to do something.”
Robert A. Heinlein

“There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.”
Robert A. Heinlein, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress

“You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don’t ever count on having both at once.”
Robert A. Heinlein

“A dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than is a riot…”
Robert A. Heinlein

“The most preposterous notion that Homo sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of His creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all history.”

Pa. pension crisis is ‘tapeworm’ of state budget
GOV. TOM CORBETT likens Pennsylvania’s public pension problem to a tapeworm, a parasite that devours new revenue as fast as an improving economy can create it.

“We have to consider everything,” in fixing the problem; it’s the “tapeworm of the budget,” he told a Digital First Media editorial board meeting last week.

Corbett called pension reform the one thing he seeks to accomplish this year. Property tax reform, he says, will have to wait.

Corbett’s call to action is not without merit. The public pension drain has escalated to a crisis in Pennsylvania with nearly $700 billion in year-over-year cost growth robbing state coffers of 62 percent of any new revenue.

In recent years, both the state employees fund (SERS) and public school employees fund (PSERS) have accrued unfunded liability amounting to billions of dollars a year, according to Charles Zogby, secretary of the budget. The funds’ current unfunded liability is $41 billion, not including future shortfalls.

Just to get the funds back on good footing would require a tax increase of $9,000 on every household in Pennsylvania, Zogby said.

She Survived Hitler. Will She Survive Obama?

“What I am about to tell you is something you’ve probably never heard or read in history books,” she likes to tell audiences. I am a witness to history.”

“I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We voted him in.”

“I wasn’t old enough to vote in 1938. I was eleven. But, I remember. We elected him by a landslide – 98 percent of the vote.”

“Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force. No so. In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25 percent inflation and 25 percent bank loan interest rates.”

“Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn’t want to work; there simply weren’t any jobs. My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people – about 30 daily.”

“We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany, where Hitler had been in power since 1933.” she recalls. “We had been told that they didn’t have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living.”

“Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group – Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone in Germany was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria. We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back.”

Chrysler To Build Jeeps In China

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said the automaker plans to build some Jeeps in China for the local market — and later, in Russia.

"As part of our global expansion of the Jeep brand, there are some cars — that because of the price position in the market — can never be made in the U.S. and exported," Marchionne told reporters on the sidelines of the North American International Auto Show. "We're going to be announcing the first step in the globalization of Jeep (in China). There's another one that's going to come in Russia. These things are part of a natural process of expansion."

Marchionne said he will keep "the pillar cars of the Jeep (brand) in the United States. Wrangler is one. The Grand Cherokee is another. These are things that need to be protected because they represent the best and the essence of Jeep. If you tell me I cannot make a Patriot somewhere else, I might as well go out of the market."

Marchionne came under harsh criticism from Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who falsely suggested that Chrysler would shift production from Ohio to China of the Jeep brand. The Romney ad on the issue was branded the "lie of the year" by fact checker "Politifact."

Marchionne rejected Romney's assertion in a letter to employees last fall. "I set the record straight to our people," he said. "We live in a world where we tell each other the truth and I think the stuff that was coming out was improperly phrased — it certainly was not reflective of the position of Chrysler."

Separately, Marchionne said no initial public offering could occur before nine months.

Troy Durham -- Editorial

Good Morning Joe,

Below is the link to a petition that was generated yesterday afternoon, January 13, 2013 by Deputy Troy Durham's Attorney, Mr. Howard B. Hoffman, requesting a response from the Attorney General, Douglas Gansler regarding the case(s) of Deputy Troy Durham.
The petition received over (x100) signatures in less than twent-four hours and the number will certainly grow exponentially....

As I stated on my FB page:

"No matter who you are or where you live...
You do not need to reside in the state of Maryland, or know, or even "like" Deputy Troy Durham to be in favor of
*RESPONSIVENESS
*INTEGRITY
*ACCOUNTABILITY
from our elected officials."

The comments and reasons for signing from the supporters are powerful and definitely 'speak for themselves'.
However, there is one comment in particular that I believe needs to be shared with the press, and that is the comment from a former lLEO, Alexander Whittington. Please take a moment to read and share it.

You may also contact Howard B. Hoffman at (301) 251-3752 for more information.

Thank you.

Mission Of Mercy

Mission Of Mercy is Scheduled for March 15th-16th, 2013 in Sailsbury!

Try to visualize the typical Mission of Mercy (MOM) patient. Usually the first thing that comes to mind is a homeless person or family, someone on government assistance, unable to get needed dental care for obvious reasons. However, that first mental picture can’t be any further from the truth. The people out there in need include the average person mingling and socializing among us. They are friends, coworkers, people we interact with on a daily basis. They could be your grandparent, mother, father, sibling, or any other relative. With the tough economic times we are in, it could be anyone. It could be you.

More than 100 million people in the United States are without dental insurance. On the Eastern Shore there are thousands of adults that don’t receive adequate or even basic needed dental care, resulting in a silent epidemic of dental and oral disease.

Mission of Mercy is a free adult dental clinic provided by volunteer dental professionals and a volunteer staff of several hundred people.
Dental services for adult patients include:
• Preventive dentistry and cleaning
• Nutritional counseling
• Restorative fillings
• Extractions

NY Newspaper’s Gun Permit Disclosure Leads To Burglary, New Legislation

A home burglary in White Plains, N.Y. that appears related to a newspaper’s recent publication of gun-permit holders will bring a legislative response Monday, in the form of a new bill aimed at banning similar public disclosures in the future.

Newsday reported Sunday that burglars broke into a 70-year-old man’s home intending to steal his gun safe. The resident, and his address, were among 44,000 disclosures of lawful firearm permits that the Journal News, a Westchester County, N.Y. newspaper, published on Dec. 24.

Republican state Sen. Greg Ball has been critical of the newspaper’s decision to release the information on the heels of the Dec. 14 Connecticut school shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead.

Man Awaiting Trial for 6 Ocean City Burglaries Arrested For Stealing A Car

On January 12, at approximately 5:30 a.m. Ocean City police responded to the area of Beachcomber Lane, in reference to a motor vehicle theft. When officers arrived in the area, they observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car, parked near the victim’s residence with the engine running and a person sitting in the driver’s seat.

As officers attempted to approach the stolen car, the driver, who was later identified as Alexander George Ellis, 20, of Ocean City, fled from the vehicle and jumped into the bay. Ellis was located, pulled from the water by officers and placed under arrest.

During the investigation, officers located several items in the vehicle that did not belong to the owner of the car. The investigation revealed that Ellis had stolen several items out of other vehicles from at least three victims who lived in the area.

As a precaution, Ellis was seen by Ocean City Paramedics and transported to Atlantic General Hospital where he was treated and later released to police. Ellis was charged with seven counts of thefts, including;
Theft: $1,000 to under $10,000.
Theft: Less than $100.00.
Theft Scheme: $1000 to under $10,000.
Theft/Rogue and Vagabond .

In addition, Ellis was charged with the following traffic charges related to the incident;
Attempt by driver to elude uniformed police by fleeing on foot.
Attempt by driver to elude uniformed police by means other than failing to stop and fleeing on foot.
Driving vehicle without the owner’s consent with intent to deprive owner.
Taking vehicle without the owner’s consent with intent to deprive owner.
Driving without license.

Ellis was seen by an Ocean City District Court Commissioner and was held on $25,000 bond. On January 3, 2013, Ellis was charged by Ocean City police in connection with six residential burglaries that had occurred last spring and was awaiting trial after being released from custody on a $50,000 unsecured bond.
