A push by activists to ease the 30-year-old blanket ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men faces a key test this week as a federal panel hears results of the latest research. The findings will be released amid growing pressure from politicians and advocates, including college students, to change the policy.
Critics say the ban is a hangover from the early, fear-filled days of AIDS, stigmatizing gay men and ignoring advances in treatment and detection in the decades since.

This would be a big mistake. I can tell you I will refuse blood donations if it is unknown if the blood came from a known gay man or not. This could potentially wipe out the entire U.S. population with aids or it will cost a fortune to test for aids on every single pint of blood.
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact I will quit donating my blood to the blood bank. It's their choice.
620-oh no!!! Gay blood!!!
ReplyDeleteEvery single pint of blood is already subjected to testing.
Right because you know that all hetero blood is safe. Look I don't want to get any transfusion, but I assure you if it came to the point I needed it, I would accept blood from a monkey if it would keep me alive.
ReplyDeleteI was told many years ago by a doctor who is now the head of hematology at a world renown hospital that the HIV virus is mutating so rapidly that it is possibly in the blood supply now without us even knowing it. You could fill a thimble with what we do know about HIV and an ocean with what is to come.
ReplyDelete836-Many years ago, nobody was very astute about HIV. Today? Completely different story. If you're serious, name that "head of hematology at a world renown hospital". If not, I understand.
ReplyDeleteOnly FDA workers should be allowed to receive gay blood transplants, leave normal people out of it.
ReplyDelete6:20, you remind me of a story I read in a book about WWII about a German SS officer who was wounded, taken prisoner by the Americans, and refused a blood transfusion because he could not be assured the blood he was receiving was not Jewish. He died thanks to his own bigotry when he easily could have been saved. I hope you have to make the same choice someday.
ReplyDelete10:35 Apples and Oranges. Jewish blood won't kill you unless it's infected with AIDS you idiot. It's not a matter of bigotry it's a matter of common sense. Gays and/or liberals like you have thrown that away to promote your own sick agenda. AIDS kills, keep it for yourself, don't force it on us.
ReplyDelete10:45 -- Black men have a much higher rate of HIV infection than the overall population. Should they not be allowed to donate blood either? Would you be squeamish about receiving a transfusion of blood from a black person?

Another Homo forcing his lifestyle down normal peoples throats.
I don't want gay blood and I hope the continue to refuse their donations.
"Have you ever had anal sex yes or no"
That should be an automatic disqualifier immediately.
Say No to Homo!
I say go for it and then watch all the homophobic bigots die out because they are scared of some blood.

You are wrong!! And since you mention it please tell us what is the testing you know so much about.
Not the guy you called wrong but per American Red Cross: "All donated blood is tested for HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and other infectious diseases before it can be released to hospitals."
ReplyDeleteFeel silly yet?
I served in the Military overseas from 1982-1986. At this time "Mad Cow" disease was going around. To this day, I cannot give blood because of the time that I serve in Germany. Mad Cow can take 5 years to come out in a person. It has been 30 years, I am good, but still not authorized to give blood. But Gay people can?
ReplyDeleteOf course the government want HIV in the system. Might help to reduce SSI payments.
