STATE POLICE INTERNET CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN TASK FORCE INVESTIGATE INCIDENTS OF CHILD EXPLOITATION ON SOCIAL NETWORKS

The Maryland State Police and other law enforcement agencies around the state have received numerous complaints over the last few days involving sexually explicit photographs of juveniles being posted on Social Networking websites, specifically Instagram. As the lead agency of the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the State Police Computer Crimes Section has been providing technical assistance into these investigations.

These latest images and videos have been posted on several different pages on the Instagram website. At this point, the images do not rise to the level of child pornography under Maryland law, however the Maryland State Police would like to urge the public to be aware of these issues and to report occurrences to Instagram’s Help Center at http://help.instagram.comor the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Cyber Tip Line athttp://www.cybertipline.com.

Additionally, the State Police suggests parents talk with their children and explain to them the possible repercussions and dangers of taking photographs of themselves in a sexually explicit manner and posting on the Internet. The following websites are a good resource for parents in steps to take to help protect children from being exploited on the Internet;www.netsmartz.org or www.ncmec.org.

The Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is comprised of 35 law enforcement agencies from around the state focused on preventing and investigating incidents of sexual child exploitation. A major part of the Task Force’s program is community outreach. Investigators travel around the state providing Internet Safety presentations to children, parents, schools, and community or church groups. If you would like to schedule such a presentation for your group or would like further information, you may email the State Police investigative unit atmsp.ccu@maryland.gov.

  1. Hey Joe,

Don't know if I should post this here or not but you decide...

Wife and I went to Wal-Mart at around 1:30 p.m. this afternoon encountered 2 of Salisbury's "finest" Police riding around, in a nice SUV, the parking lots harassing drivers who were dropping off or picking up people coming out of the stores... City sure is after these "hardened criminals" around the city. They will no doubt deter criminals acts riding in parking lots!!! SAD times.

  3. Ok, I am going to play devils advocate here:
Morons double park all the time in front of Walmart and that is a hazard to people coming out of the store and trying to crossing traffic to get to the parking lot. They double park in the fire lane, they double park in the yellow no parking areas.
Now I know these morons are superior to the rest of us and have some superior need to inconvenience the rest of us and create a hazard to pedestrians, to which we are not seen and can get hit by those other superiors who speed or not stop at that stop sign.
But I have to say, that maybe during their routine patrol (yea they do that thru Walmart) they decided to tell those superior morons to move, before someone got hit.
That's just my take, and I say thank you for telling those colossal jerks to move their friggin car and walk to the store like all the rest of us have to, rain or shine.

  5. Mostly it is the fat and lazy that park/stop in the fire lane and the majority of the vehicles in the handicap parking are just fat and lazy too. Personally, I park in back or at Sam's and walk over but I'm neither fat nor lazy.

  6. If the people park next to the store between the 2 main doors I don't mind because there is enough room for people to get around them. I hate when people park between the one door where the pharmacy is and the door for lawn and garden. You can't get around them if you are driving and it's hard enough to maneuver those carts that seem to want to go their own directions....however if the police are going to stop people from parking or sitting where they are not suppose to maybe they should stop pulling up on the sidewalk by the side door closest to Sams Club. I have seen a few that just think they can pull the car right up onto the sidewalk and park.

And in between "real" police work, they can "patrol", which is also real police work.
