For many Maryland retailers hoping to cash in big on the official kickoff to the holiday shopping season, they didn't quite get the gift they were banking on this past weekend.
"I wouldn't call it bleak," said Patrick Donoho, president of the Maryland Retailers Association. "It's just not meeting expectations."
Donoho said in the survey he sent out to about 250 retailers across the state, many weren't 'overjoyed' at weekend sales. The association has many small businesses, not big box retailers.
