OCEAN CITY – City Council members voiced concerns over the current replacement of utility poles on Coastal Highway this week, asking Delmarva Power Senior Public Affairs Specialist Jim Smith to come before the council to address a few issues.
“I don’t know if any of you have taken notice of these poles that Delmarva Power is putting in. These poles, some of them tower two to three stories above the buildings that were allowed to be built along Coastal Highway … they are forever changing the look of the Town of Ocean City,” Councilman Joe Mitrecic said.
Mitrecic added the largest utility poles have not even been installed yet, as sleeves for the poles have been put in place measuring to be at least four feet in diameter.
“Riding down the road tonight it came to my attention and what they’re doing to the skyline to the Town of Ocean City,” Mitrecic said.

Well, any upgrade to OC is an improvement, the place is run down and crappy looking, they haven't put any money into remodeling the hotels, motels, or the stores. The place looks stuck in the 1950's !
ReplyDeleteThere are portions of Coastal Hwy where you can't even get a child's stroller through. I have witnessed people stepping onto the Hwy to get by. Are some of the poles now 4' at the base? The bus lane will need to be renamed the baby lane.

I have seen the new project and I have to agree that the project , while necessary is extremely ugly.being an electrician and understanding it will be expensive and inconvenient for a while , I don't understand why they could not go underground !

ReplyDelete11:04 69kw would be tough to install underground because of the heat generated from that voltage. Plus, it would not be politically correct. You see, maintenance would would have to be done through manholes in the street, and being women also work for the power companies these days, they would have to change the name to human access holes.
