Parents, Guardians And Community Invited To Free Family Involvement Conference Nov. 16

Wicomico County Public Schools is kicking off American Education Week with its 2nd Family Involvement Conference on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The conference, Making STRONGER Connections: Family, Schools & Community, will be held at Parkside High School, 1015 Beaglin Park Drive, Salisbury.

This is a free conference with workshops on topics such as Common Core (for elementary and middle school parents), calculating high school GPA (grade point average), and how to get the most from American Education Week classroom visits. School safety, raising great men, and handling middle school drama are also featured topics. There are 30 different workshops from which to choose, for parents of students from grades pre-K through high school.

The conference begins with breakfast, followed by a presentation by Dr. Christian Moore. Dr. Moore is the creator of the WhyTry program, which helps students and parents in their efforts for their child’s academic and behavior success (www.whytry.org). Free child care is provided for ages 2 – 5, and youth activities are available for ages 6 – 14 (registration is required).

Participation is open to families, community members, child care providers, faith-based organizations – anyone who is helping to support the academic and social learning of children and youth. Participants are welcome from other counties as well. Attendees are eligible to win door prizes donated by community businesses that support our students’ success.
