Coburn: DHS Nominee Johnson Used Cribbed Answers For Confirmation Hearing

The Obama administration was accused Wednesday of providing cribbed answers to 23 questions in the form the Senate received for the hearing of its nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security -- as the nominee also ran into criticism from one senator who said he won't vote for him unless he makes a major border security pledge.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., got into a heated exchange with nominee Jeh Johnson, pressing him to commit to boost border security to 90 percent effectiveness. Johnson did not make the pledge. McCain said he, then, could not support his nomination.

That was after another senator, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, charged that the White House "cut and pasted" Johnson's responses to the committee.

  2. I think its time to dispense with the catch phrases and such and really get involved with our country's future and well being.

Being glib, repeating talking points and other nonsense one hears from others is not entertaining nor helpful.

Granted, it's easy to be negative and point to all the recent, and not so recent, failures of our government. This administration alone has given us a boatload of examples.

While it is true our government and its leaders have made a complete mess of things, the American citizen has to bear some of the fault as well.

Not only have we elected them, presumably, but we are slow to correct the harmful, and sometimes criminal, actions of our reps.

I don't think there is another time in our history that there has been a more inept, corrupt, unconstitutional, CRIMINAL, human rights violators, secretive, reckless, irresponsible, and twenty other adjectives, government.

We HAVE to roll up our sleeves, get our hands dirty, and DEMAND our voices be heard and our will be obeyed.

We are beginning to show signs of that, with the protests, recalled politicians, and with states going against some federal laws and agencies.

Each day more and more citizens are waking up and realizing it is WE who really have the power and we don't have to blindly follow or obey anyone who we have elected, OR have given the authority to enforce our laws.

We are starting to stop this country from continuing on its destructive paths.

We have a long way to go yet, and it won't happen overnight, but it can be done.

It takes time to get 300+ million people aware of the real problems we are facing and to take action. We are up against a huge adversary.

Big government, a long tradition of business as usual, a growing militarized police force, corrupt and ineffective media, (for us it is ineffective), and complacency, laziness, uninterested, ignorant citizens.

Actions mean a lot, but words do too. We have to start choosing our words and speech better. It needs to be more positive, uplifting, hopeful, forceful, NON-PC, straightforward yet tactful, informed and above all else, honest.

We are all in this together. Together we can climb out of this huge hole we are in or, we can all be buried together.

I would rather work together with each of us and make this country great and prosperous. For us in the here and now, and more importantly for me, our grandchildren.

I do not want to have to look at a child's face and have to answer what happened to this once free country. How could I have let this happen. Didn't I care? Didn't I love him or her enough to give them a safe, productive place to live like those before me gave me.

As I get off my soapbox I will leave you with this. It just occurred to me that the words of JFK are very relevant and needed now.

Ask not what this country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.

It really needs us now. Peace.
