Back From The Ashes, Waterman’s Reopens

A faulty electrical circuit set a fire that gutted Waterman’s Seafood Company on Route 50 and took firefighters almost four hours to extinguish on Oct. 5, 2012.

Just over a year later, the restaurant is hosting its re-launching party in an all-new building today, Friday, Nov. 1, with a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration.

“We’ve been here for 30 years,” co-Owner Jamy Davy said. “We’re trying to set up for the next 30.”

When the flames wrecked the old Waterman’s building, the owners decided to start from scratch rather than rebuild within the old structure.

  1. The good ol "after the season is over fire" insurance scam. Same thing Hooper's pulled off a few years back.

  2. 12:54, seriously???

I have not eaten at Waterman's since the days when you brought your own cooler.
However to suggest fraud is ignorant. I remember dearly when Hoopers burned down, and it like a knife in the gut for that family. I can assume it was like this for Waterman's as well.

You really need to get over yourself.

  3. 250-How is suggesting fraud ignorant? I worked at a few well known "crab houses" when I was putting myself through college. Know more than a few well known local restaurateurs. The thing is, those very successful businessmen said the very same thing as I am. Is it any wonder why these multiple alarm blazes just HAPPEN to occur after the busy season is over?

I remember both incidents very well. I don't wish that on anyone or anyone's business. But the facts surrounding these fires are very questionable, to say the least. The next time there is a fire at a prominent business(in need of a top to bottom renovation) after the yearly $$$ has been made, don't forget I told you so.
