Delaware State Police Honor Trooper Robert A. Paris

New Castle, DE- On Thursday, October 17, 2013, Troopers gathered at the Dutch Inn, 111 South DuPont Highway, to pay tribute to Trooper Robert A. Paris. This memorial ceremony will mark the passing of 50 years since the death of Trooper Paris, who was killed in the line of duty on Thursday, October 17, 1963.

Trooper Robert A. Paris was shot and killed while on a special burglary detail checking New Castle area motels. He encountered two suspicious subjects in the parking lot of a motel at 3:40 am. When he approached the pair a shootout ensued and Trooper Paris was fatally wounded by a shotgun blast.

The two suspects and their getaway driver were apprehended following a large manhunt. The shooter was sentenced to life in prison. The other two suspects were sentenced to lesser prison terms.
Trooper Paris had served with the agency for 4.5 years. He was survived by his wife and two daughters.

  1. This is news? For a guy that served less than 5 years?

    Where are all the memorials, press mentions, and everything else for our service men and women who have died and ARE dying right now?

    And this from 50 years ago? Sorry he got killed, but damn. Let's get our priorities right.
