When Did Military Bases Become 'Gun-Free Zones'?

It hasn't always been the case that only MPs can carry firearms on U.S. military bases. A mere twenty years ago, "gun free zones" made their way to these facilities under the watch of President Bill Clinton.

According to a Washington Times editorial written days after the Nov. 5, 2009 attack on soldiers at Fort Hood, one of Clinton's "first acts upon taking office... was to disarm U.S. soldiers on military bases."

Clinton's actions birthed Army regulations "forbidding military personnel from carrying their personal firearms and making it almost impossible for commanders to issue firearms to soldiers in the U.S. for personal protection."

In other words, thanks to Clinton, citizens who join the military to use guns to defend liberty abroad cannot practice their constitutional right to keep and bear arms while on active duty at home.

  1. I wonder how the socialist Obama would feel if the White House suddenly became a "gun free zone". He has no problem accepting protection from armed security details while he leaves the rest of us at the mercy of criminals & terrorists. He is strangling America with every word that leaves his lips and with every stroke of his pen. Have we had enough yet???????

  2. I had to keep my personal weapons in the armory. And when I wanted them I had to sign my own weapons in and out. I can only get them at certain times. Most times it was damn near impossible to get my own personal weapon while I was active Just to even go shoot on the weekends.

  4. I find it incredible that those in uniform, sworn to protect us all with their lives are NOT allowed to carry firearms at the home base where they should be the safest; but are not because of this ruling. It need not be mandatory, but if they so choose, it needs to be allowed!
