Mayor Rawlings Blake and other city officials are starting an effort to boost the minimum wage in Maryland.
The resolution to go before the City Council would urge the Maryland General Assembly to increase the minimum wage starting next year.
The figure now stands at $7.25 an hour in Maryland, where it's been for almost 5 years.
At that rate a worker earns just over $15,000 annually at a full time job, according to the Mayor's office.

Whoever made that estimate failed first grade.. That $15,000 will be $10,000 after businesses switch to part-time and/or move out of state. Might as well make it $50.00 per hour minimum wage, then there will be no need for welfare..
ReplyDeleteI think if they increase minimum wage, all workers should get the same percentage increase. What people also dont realize is if you increase minimum wage the price of goods will also increase as business will not want to incur the cost of higher wages and will pass the increase onto consumers. A minimum wage job is not meant to be a job to support a family.

Not only that, there is a thing called compression. The higher paid worker doesn't get the pay raise and he/she is penalized for getting the appropriate training and education.
$25.00 an hour is a nice round number.
ReplyDeleteSo, let's just lower welfare benefits to below minimum wage. 7 for welfare package; 10 for working.
ReplyDeleteAH YES, the entitled generation at work again. We MUST make more than we are worth.... so give it to us.
ReplyDeleteWise up everyone. Costco is behind this and has lobbied law maker extensively to pass it. It's not about the workers-period! It's about Costco wanting to run out more small independent retailers-period! Democrats need to get their heads out of their rear ends and see this for what it is. The democratic voters have been so dumbed down they can not see the forest through the trees anymore and follow their leaders blindly. Democratic politicians are nothing but house slaves doing the biding of big business-period!
