A Letter To The Editor 8-30-13

Your recent post about the unemployment numbers caused me to reflect on the 8% plus increase on property taxes in Wicomico County this year. While I am greatful for my 1.7% increase as I am sure other county employees were, Being a low level employee the increased taxes on the property I own far surpassed any raise I received. Some county employees did not receive a 1.7 % increase they received raises that most of us would only dream about. What follows is a list of some of the Wicomico County employees that received increases above 1.7%. Many received $1500 to $3000 and are not listed Mathew Creamer $71.400 increase $5000.00 total salary $76.400 Melissa Holland $33.660 increase $5000.00 total salary $38.660 Wendy Riley $67.257 increase $10.743 total salary $78.000 James Britt $70.380 increase $4000 total salary $74.380 Andrew Illuminate $59.160 increase $4880 total salary $64.040 Mathew Maciarello $114.527 increase $4.100 total salary $118.627 Jarad Montiero $57.120 increase $4.880 increase to $62.000 Andrew Mackel $86.700 increase $10.000 total salary $96.000 Sheri Carey $40.800 increase $3.264 total salary $44.064 Kristen Conn $43.920 increase $9.080 total salary $53.000 Bryan Furches $ 42.869 increase $3.429 total salery $46.298 Patrick Perry $38.760 increase $5.240 total salary $44.000 Andrew Kitzrow $51.000 increase 4.080 total salary $55.080 Louis Rricherson $44.880 increase $3.590 total salary $48.770 Andrew Wisk $66.300 increase $3.700 total salary $70.000.

As stated above many employees received increases of $1.500.00 to $3.000.00 that was far above a 1.7% increase I only hope is that Wicomico County does not end up like Detroit. A complete salary list can be obtained from the executives office.

Publishers Notes: The information referencing States Attorney Matt Maciarello is incorrect. Matt is on his FIRST term and his salary can NOT be increased.

  1. We are well on our way - the corruption has already infested the government starting at the executive level.

Our elected RINO's don't have the backbone to say no - even though they have the votes......

  2. Pennies compared to Ocean City, their trash collectors make more than this!

  3. I knew this was happening in Wicomico.

The citizens are subserviant unto the local government. Instead of a government serving the people - instead - we have the people serving the government officials. One look at the salary list says it all.

  4. Let's get rid of all the Republicans on the council and replace them with Democrats. I'm for that. They will help our elected Democrat Exec. more. Yeepie Ya A!!!!

  5. If I recall, as a savings measure, the county retired a large number of people in 2010, many positions were never filled and some eliminated. Employees that remained, ended up doing the work of 2 or more people. Glad they are finally getting an increas to make up for the added duties. It still nets a savings to the taxpayers no matter how you slice it. What would these jobs be making in the private sector? Much more And that is a fact.

  6. I would venture to say that most of the jobs lost in Wicomico Co. are due to PRMC getting rid of folks before the union vote..
    Things are getting worse there...

I must laugh when you say some of our county employees are doing the work of two people, sounds as if you have taken the Rick Pollitt reeducation course. It's clear by your remarks were you work so that's enough said. However most county employees are hard working but don't try to BS everyone it won't work.

  9. Wendy Riley needed the extra money for booze. Instead of being punished for pleading guilty in her DWI she gets a raise go figure. Good ole boy system at it's best.

  10. Pollitt seems to have four council members firmly in his pocket, as it stands now he can get anything he wants. good for you Rick go get em.

  13. Why do we get this news now? The DT covered the budget and wrote about the tax increase but said the increase was for roads and schools and a 1.7% salary increase for county empolyees. Nothing was ever said about these raises in the DT clearly another Pollitt cover up.

  14. Good question 10:22. What the heck gives with The Daily Times reporting. They really attacked Sen. Colburn last week and this kind of news slipped by. Smelly for sure.

  15. 10:22 and 10:53
What the heck gives is that Pollitt is protected at the Daily Times in that his former finance guru Pat Peterson is on the board. This is the babe that received a secret raise a few years ago.

  17. 9:19, if by your statement you agree that most county employees are hard working, why complain when they get a raise? How do you know that tthere aren't MANY that are picking up what was left? they have and have been managing to keep the wheels turning, even with having to constantly listen to whiners like you. Fill out an application and find out.

  23. HOW CAN MACKES EXPLAIN GIVING SOMEONE A 9 K A YEAR INCREASE IN SALARY!!!!!!! THAT IS JUST UNACCEPTABLE TO THE TAXPAYER.HIS DEPUTY POUND PUP WISK IS NOW MAKING WHAT JOHN TERRELL MADE AFTER 35 PLUS YEARS AND HAS THE PERSONALITY OF A FROG.

  25. The governmental officials are 'feeding' off of our taxpayers. We, the taxpayers have become slaves to them.

This scenario is not sustainable as look at all of the municipal bankrupcies going on all around the country. They started out doing the things we are currently doing.

    ReplyDelete
  26. no, Wendy Riley needed it for legal fees, still a disgrace.

    ReplyDelete
  27. We need to see all raises given this year.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Has anyone checked the actual reasons for the raises? promotions ? downsizing of departments ? increases in responcabilaties ?

By the way, why is it the employees fault for getting a raise. I can gaurentee no one on here would turn down a raise. I surely wouldn't say no.
