Zero fires..... Says it all. And a 16million dollar fire palace. And to think they could of bought 5 EMT vans for the coast of a fire boat. Silly little boys and their silly little toys.

Wrong again, Anon, 8:39 AM.
I count 4 calls that an Engine responded on for the calls listed here in the run log. The problem is, this is not a true picture of a 24 hour period because the computer program for unknown reasons does not pick up each and every call that the 911 center dispatches them on.
Again for the third day in a row I will once again invite you to see all that the paid crews do on a daily basis. And after seeing this you may realize that the volunteers within this city could not hold down the fort without quitting their jobs. Or at the least quadrupling the number of volunteers and requiring them to sign up for shift coverages. But as my last two invitations have gone unanswered, I'm sure this one will too...
ReplyDelete9:21 how many calls did the fire boat respond to. See Dick nothing but a joke and a waste of tax payers money. Hire more EMT and dump the paid firemen. Also when was the last time you transported someone to the ER with ladder 16? Boys of mettro.
ReplyDeleteNo needed firemen , no needed fire men , no needed firemen , No needed paid firemen!
ReplyDeleteYeah... I love that too. What the heck is "Boyz of Metro"? Give me a break. A bunch of wannabees. Metro? Really? Salisbury is no" metro". We don't even have a rush hour... We have a rush "minute". SMH. Keep thumping your chests guys.. You're so hard core.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:42, let me remind YOU once AGAIN. The SFD has more paid Firefighters then the SPD has Police Officers.
ReplyDeleteThe SPD responds to 60,000, (THAT'S SIXTY THOUSAND) calls per year. PLEASE do NOT try to see any one of us that the paid Firefighters are doing such a bang up job, with all due respect.
Take away all of the ambulance chasing calls with fire trucks and compare ALL of the 60,000 calls each day for Police Officers and talk apples to apples, then shut me up.
I'll add, my problem started with the SFD because of the abuse of taking multi million dollar equipment out for joy rides, lunch, dinner, you name it.
Many of you have commented that these Posts are an attack against the Fire Department. NO THEY ARE NOT! This is PUBLIC information available on your very own Website. Salisbury News NEVER deletes ANY information, as some have suggested.
Correction: PLEASE do NOT try to sell any one of us that the paid Firefighters are doing such a bang up job, with all due respect.
ReplyDeletewhere are all of the lunch runs??? Joe, that might be 100,000.
ReplyDeleteCan someone please answer me why in Salisbury that a Fire Truck has to follow an Ambulance call?
ReplyDeleteDo any of the other municipalities in Wicomico County have a paid Fire Department? Just curious.

WRONG yourself BOZO!!
Just because an engine "responds" doesn't make it a fire call. It is an EMS call and nothing more. There is only one "fire related" call and that was electrical. Big deal! That is something the volunteers can handle.
It is obvious that the calls are EMS and the need is for Paramedics and not firefighters. There should be at least 7 ambulances staffed in Salisbury and let the volunteers handle the "fire" calls. There is no need for fire engines to respond on ambulance calls and all the 1050 PI's or MVC's. It is a case of misappropriation of funding and poor allocations of resources.

Who cares what you do! The little things you claim you are doing are nothing more than busy work to make you look busy.
If Kentland in Prince Georges County Maryland can handle all the calls with volunteers then the City of Salisbury can do it. You bring up a good point in referencing recruiting more volunteers. When was the last time Rick Hoppes and Salisbury attempted to recruit volunteers?
NEVER!!

To justify their jobs that is why.
It is obvious that the Salisbury Fire Department is really an EMS department with a paid fire chief. There are paid deputy chief, assistant fire chiefs, fire captains and fire lieutenants, but there are no EMS officers.
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't the Salisbury Fire Department have an EMS division with an EMS Chief, an EMS Deputy Chief, an EMS Assistant Chief, an EMS Captain or an EMS Lieutenant?
Does anyone in the Salisbury Fire Department know how to run an real EMS Division? Is Rick Hoppes a paramedic with experience?
Yes 4:15 because if they don't they will never leave the station. And if they don't drive around in their cool toys you will never see them. Boyz of Metro.....
ReplyDeleteKentland Volunteer Fire Company
ReplyDelete100% Volunteer 100% of the Time
The Kentland Volunteer Fire Department is comprised of two firehouses, Company 33 and Company 46. It is two of 47 volunteer fire stations that comprise the Prince George’s County Fire Department (PGFD). Company 33, arguably the busiest volunteer engine, rescue and tower company in the Nation, is the department featured on this website. It is staffed solely by a dedicated group of volunteers 100% of the time, a surprising accomplishment in today’s society of decreased volunteerism.
Station 33 is located in Landover, Maryland, just outside of the District of Columbia, approximately 5 miles from the Capital in the county of Prince George’s. Our response area includes FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskin’s and Six Flags Amusement Park*. Major roadways such as the Capital Beltway (I-495) and MD Route 50 bring commuters to and from an area of industrial complexes, garden style apartments and single-family and duplex homes ranging from new construction to over 75 years in age.
Company 33 operates one class ‘A’ engine, a mini-pumper, a combination class ‘A’ engine / heavy rescue and a 75 foot Baker-AerialScope Tower Ladder. Volunteers respond to over 7,200 emergency incidents making it quite possibly the busiest one-hundred percent volunteer fire department in the world with combined apparatus responses of almost 13,000 per year. Kentland Company 33 has also held the title of the busiest engine company in Maryland, busiest Ladder company in PG, as well as the busiest volunteer engine company in the nation as seen in Firehouse Magazine’s Annual Run Survey.
The volunteers of Kentland are made up of over 50 individuals, with 15 to 20 living at the fire house. The average experience of the department is 12 years and many of the members are paid firefighters with departments in the metropolitan area such as the DCFD, Fairfax County FD and Montgomery County FD. Kentland prides itself in providing superior service to it’s community including aggressive interior attack firefighting.
*Six Flags Amusement Park is located outside of Co. 33 primary response area (first due) in Co. 43’s first due, both Engine Co. 33 and Tower 33 are primary response services (special service).
Kentland 33 is located at 7701 Landover Road in Landover, Maryland. The station has three double bays and two single bays where all fire apparatus is stored. Living accommodations include room for 25 live-in members, 17 of which are single person rooms. The firehouse also has all the normal necessities found in a home such as a TV room, two kitchens and 4 bathrooms. In addition there is a game/workout room and offices for both operational and administrative officers. On average 15 to 20 members live at the firehouse, something unique to metropolitan DC volunteer departments. Members living at the station trade off having no living expenses (Rent, phone, electric, etc.) for staffing during their free time.
The city needs to separate the EMS from the fire department. The old fire station would be a great location for them to start out.
ReplyDeleteIf Kentland can run 13,000 calls a year with 100% volunteers there is no reason Salisbury can't do the same.
ReplyDeleteSalisbury's website show they went on 2815 "fire" calls last year. We all know these calls were not fire calls, but calls responded with a fire engine. We all know these were self dispatched calls on their fire trucks chasing ambulances.
Cut the ambulance chasing calls out and you will see way less than 1,000 alarms and the volunteers can handle those calls.
There is no need for 5 paid assistant chiefs in Salisbury. There is no need for 7 take home chief cars. This is wasted gas and wasted tax dollars. Why does Rick Hoppes and John Tull need brand new Ford Explorer SUV's?
The Salisbury Fire Department has over 70 paid firemen for what?
ReplyDeleteThe need is for paramedics not paid firemen. Who made that decision to hire that many paid firemen?
