And shortly after the storm our "government" started confiscating the real and personal property from the landowners on Assateague. There are no longer any citizen landowners on the island.
Don't forget the Great March Storm of 1962. I really think it was worse than the '33 hurricane. The '33 storm is famous mainly because it cut the inlet but the total damage in '62 was greater. The '62 storm also cut an inlet up near 33rd Street but it was plugged quickly. The inlet from '33 was encouraged to grow.
