Alleged Late-Night Drunk Driver Strikes Police Vehicle On Route 50

BERLIN — An alleged drunk driver crashed into a marked police car early Saturday morning on Route 50, causing significant damage to each of the vehicles.

On Aug. 17, at approximately 2:39 a.m., a trooper assigned to the Maryland State Police, Berlin Barrack, was on duty on routine patrol travelling west on Route 50 in a marked Maryland State Police Unit.

As the trooper entered the intersection of Keyser Point Road with a green traffic signal, a 2010 Ford Mustang, being operated by David Leyden, made a left turn from eastbound Route 50 at Keyser Point Road against a red traffic signal and into the path of the marked State Police vehicle.
