NUMBER OF INVOLUNTARY PART-TIME WORKERS JUMPS 332K IN JUNE

The number of Americans employed part time for economic reasons (involuntary part-time workers) increased by 322,000 to 8.2 million from May to June, the Labor Department reported on Friday.

“These individuals were working part time because their hours had been cut back or because they were unable to find a full-time job,” said the news release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

As the Obama administration prepares to roll out the Democrats’ health-insurance-for-all plan in 2014, many businesses have warned that they will keep their payrolls below 50 full-time workers to avoid penalties imposed by the law.

  3. I ran into a friend I hadn't seen for awhile in a store the other day. She asked me if I had any odd jobs for her son. His employee cut everyone back to 30 hour weeks. She said he really really needs that extra couple of hundred bucks he was making previously. No overtime anymore either.

  4. And out of that 8.2 million, 8.2 million were Mexican doing the jobs Americans felt were beneath them.

    1. You confuse the word "beneath" with the phrase "for peanuts" 3:37pm. They're willing to work for less because there's no social security for employers to pay, no health care, and no threat of them coming back later on their employer for unemployment because they're immigrants, most without documentation. Americans are willing to work, but for FREE? Would you work for the wages that your aware of being paid to illegals? Answer....hell NO! That's what your twisted logic says to me vs your put down of the American worker. Those immigrants either spend their untaxed money like water or send it back to Mexico/South America to their families. All the employers think like you, cheap, cheap, cheap and screw the federal government which places the whole burden on tax paying American workers. This is no reference to the dead wood welfare baby makers, they're worthless, the main drain! The other big screw to America is out sourcing jobs and importing everything we buy from the communist China junk corporations and like producing countries. Why work for nothing. Here's a great example, my s.s. is $850 a month at age 64, almost 65, my parents both about 85 y.o. receive about the same as myself. One of me, two of them. We worked and paid in to s.s. all of our lives. One non working accident indigent person that I know (out of work for well over 35 years) receives in excess of $1200 a month s.s., heavy drinker, heavy smoker and gets free food, schuttle at a whole $4 bucks a pop regardless of how far he or his divorced wife need to go in Maryland. She lives life like he does and is now receiving over $1100 a month plus the same benifits in the same house. The Social Security fund should never have been tapped for welfare and kids get full benifits when mom or dad croak. Everything works against those that are and have been willing to work during their productive years. Immigrants are just more rats at the trough of FREE.

  5. It appears to be happening almost everywhere in the US except for a few business friendly states. The workforce is getting smaller and smaller with each new monthly reporting. Yet the population continues to increase. I would classify the current situation as a recipe for economic disaster. It's a reflection on our nations poor political leadership.

  6. To 4:43

I hear you - and by the look of my neighborhood it appears that virtually all of my neighbors are on disability or unemployment One of neighbors worked for Sam's unloading trucks and claimed he had a heart condition - and wouldn't you know it - he applied and got permanent disability. Now he coats his black top driveway while I go off to work in the morning.

  7. 4:23 I agree with all you say except most of the immigrant labor are here working legally with the proper documentation. A small percentage may be working without documentation but most legit employers do require the proper visas.
This though is what has created the illegal problem. Contrary to popular myth they aren't hopping the border-they are staying here after their visas expire. Those are the ones you see doing odd jobs for homeowners like washing windows, cleaning, yard work that sort of thing.
Another myth is the welfare system is wrought with Baby Machines who have never desired to work. Not true. The overwhelming majority of those who receive one or more government welfare benefit are the working poor-those who work in places like Walmart, the chicken processing plants. The tax payers are subsidizing these workers.
It's always kind of funny to see when one of the chicken companies so proudly hands over a big check to some organization as a donation in their name. It's not them giving the money it's the tax payers who they sponge off of.
Or like Perdue Stadium. If people chose to be honest and had integrity it would be called The Tax Payers Stadium.

  8. i don't think all of the part time workers are about immigrants illegal or legal it is about not being tied into obamacare as well as all of the other new regulations. destroy the country from the inside out. when you can make more money sitting on your but collecting a government check why work. romney was right about the 47% which is now at least 51%

  10. 850, please borrow some money from Romney and buy a clue. These companies have been slashing jobs in favor of part time work well before there was an Obamacare. Companies have been making money left and right by NOT hiring full time employees while boosting productivity. And I take it you must not be an older worker or have gone through a health scare. Otherwise you would know that these companies are doing their best to FORCE workers onto permanent disability. There are plenty of folks fighting tooth and nail to stay in the work force.
