Pensacola, Florida (CNN) -- Was he a suspect or a victim?
A Florida sheriff says an unarmed man -- mistaken for a car thief and shot by deputies in his own driveway -- is both.
He refused to obey commands and lunged at the deputies who fired their weapons 15 times to subdue him, they say.

How many reasons can they come up with for shooting a 60 year old man? He didn't "comply". He was on drugs. He was drinking. He was "impaired". He lunged at them (with the agility of a jungle cat -- at 60 years old and with back problems). They thought he made a move with a "weapon". And they saved the tried and true for last: "We feared for our lives". Do cops have a little book they read out of when they blast unarmed citizens? Is it the same one they use when they beat people to death or accidently rape a handcuffed woman? Fired 15 rounds at point blank range (you can't lunge at someone from fifteen feet away and scare them with that move, can you? MOST people aren't. Cops, with bullet proof vests, nightsticks, a similarly equipped partner - and a gun - jump at the sound of someone blinking) and hit the guy TWICE --in the legs!). Fire them for some tried and true citizens reasons -- if you are that scared of someone "lunging" at you that you have to open fire, then you need a different job. And as an officer TRAINED in marksmanship, where people's lives depend upon your accuracy under stress, you can't hit something that is NOT FIRING BACK more than twice in fifteen rounds? What cops showed up, anyway? Barney Fife's little brother and his girlfriend?
ReplyDeleteMurder nothing more.
ReplyDeleteMurder?? Nobody died. Check your Webster's Dictionary. I think you might be a tad confused.
ReplyDeleteImclain - did you put in an application for your local law enforcement agency. Can't wait to have a Supercop like you working by my side.
We're all getting sick of hearing "officer safety".There are some jobs where personal safety is not guaranteed.A police officer might be #1 on that list.
ReplyDelete2:50 go wright some tickets. You know to keep us all safe.

ReplyDeleteYou've said enough and spoke loudly about what you believe.
If you can't be a cop without shooting innocent citizens, then don't be a cop.
2:50...not everyone aspires to be a cop. And its not the most admired profession. It might increase its stature among the populace if you 5'6" tough guys would stop gang beating, killing, and wounding unarmed citizens because they didn't immediately jump at your barked commands or you were (like always) afraid of "boo". I have never in my life seen a group of men so afraid of everything around them that their first and only response is shooting or beating someone into a coma --- 5-10 against one seem to be the preferred odds for cops. You guys can't even take a knife from a decrepit 95 year old man without killing him....and OTHER cops CHEER their actions!! THAT'S how you get respect, huh? Like cheering as your neighbor's 9 year old kid gets beat to death by 3 or 4 men who got angry because the kid said something they didn't like....
ReplyDeleteSounds like Ron White's gig about 200 rounds fired at the white Suburban, and then they drove away.
