Ex Walmart Worker Says She Was Fired For Telling Police About Dog Stuck In Hot Truck

A woman in Ontario, Canada, says she was fired from her job at Walmart earlier this week because she called the police on a customer who had left his dog in a hot car with the windows rolled up — and after she told her boss she’d do it again.
She tells the CBC that she was on her way into work on Tuesday when she saw a customer lock his dog inside the truck and close the windows.

“I said, ‘Is this really happening? I’m going to give him about five or 10 minutes and then I’m going to call the police,’” says the now-former Walmarter. When the man didn’t return, she contacted the police. An officer arrived, took down the license plate number and went into the store to find the vehicle’s owner.

  1. I ran into the same thing here at walmart north. dog locked in car parked in sun, 90 degrees. cart man had even looked at the car/dog and walked away. they have a standing policy to let the animal die and not get involved. went in to walmart for assistance and they told me it wasn't their problem to call he police myself. they would not even give me the number for the police. they do not care what happens in their parking lot. you could go out there and vandalize vehicles and they would turn a blind eye. isn't their problem.

  2. 1:40 So, don't shop there. They CAN'T get involved in that stuff. Same reason they're not held liable if you leave $100 in your car, and come out to find it gone.

Is it a shame? Yes. Is it on Walmart? No way.

Call the police, and let them handle it.

  3. Walmart doesn't even enforce their own rules, why would you think they would encourage their employees to call the police when laws are being broken? Their "12 items or less" line is a JOKE! I've seen people get in those lines with full carts. When I ask the cashier why they they allow it, I've been told they aren't allowed to say anything to the customer about it.

  4. Hey 2:46 they CAN get involved in that stuff since it is THEIR property. The cart man and walmart are pathetic to let an animal die instead of doing the morally correct thing.
    Is it on Walmart, yes.
You must work for them because you have the same pathetic jackass attitude. Hows the koolaide?

  6. 5:41 Haha, yeah ok... I work for Walmart... please. I stopped working for others when I was 16... 20+ years ago.

Morally, ethically, humanly, whatever... they SHOULD do something about it. BUT, financially, and as a business, they should stay out of it and allow law enforcement to do their job.

Add the Sheriff and non emergency Police number in your phone, and call when you see things like this. I do, all the time. But taking it to the business, you'll get nowhere and nothing.
