SANFORD, Fla. (AP) -- George Zimmerman was fed up with "punks" getting away with crime and shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin "because he wanted to," not because he had to, prosecutors argued Monday, while the neighborhood watch volunteer's attorney said the killing was self-defense against a young man who was slamming Zimmerman's head against the pavement.
The prosecution began opening statements in the long-awaited murder trial with shocking language, repeating obscenities Zimmerman uttered while talking to a police dispatcher moments before the deadly confrontation.
The defense opened with a knock-knock joke about the difficulty of picking a jury for a case that stirred nationwide debate over racial profiling, vigilantism and Florida's expansive laws on the use of deadly force.

Sounds about right. He can't run from the facts. Yes he made a mistake but a kid is dead and he is responsible. End of story.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how the media would have spun the story, as well the prosecutor, had Zimmerman been black and Trayvon was white. My guess is, there would be NO trial.
Deletehe is innocent
ReplyDeleteI don't think he is innocent. I don't believe he set out to kill Trayvon but do believe he built up to this and made a fatal mistake that took the life of a young man.
ReplyDeleteHe is an innocent man, he was just doing what he was supposed to do, and he saw a suspect that fit the description of the burglary suspect being sought for questioning in the gated community burglaries that had occurred in the past week. Profiling? Ya, but the burglary suspects were young black males, that happen to be lurking around and looking into windows of homes to see if they were occupied. The 3 main network news media’s failed to give the public all the facts, they don’t want the public to know that Martin was found to have Marijuana in his system, he has a criminal history, he tried to bash in Zimmerman’s head, but the facts don’t bring about loads of viewers or sell newspapers, labeling a victim a RACIST, does.
ReplyDelete8:20 Hahahaha. Keep telling yourself that.
ReplyDeleteMy problem with this whole case is that the jury isn't allowed to know about the pot in his system, his prior criminal history or his school suspension. Sorry that this kid was killed but he wasn't a walking angel by any means. Zimmerman got the living crap kicked out of him & fought for his life. He felt that this life was in mortal danger so he fired his gun.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that's going to matter 10:45. What's going to matter is Zimmerman's injuries and a witness from 15 ft away saw "black on top, red on bottom. Z. was wearing a red sweatshirt. Also State's already lost credibility with the jurors (as happened in Anthony)due to the "mind games" they are playing. Prosecutor during opening couldn't spit out enough times that M. was only 17 and was unarmed both of which Z. had no way of knowing at the time. Jury sees through this. Also the State should have been the first to bring out Z.'s injuries but they didn't. It's best to get out not only the "good" but also the "bad and the ugly" ahead of the defense otherwise it looks like they are trying to hide or marginalize something.
ReplyDelete8:20-It's not a question of if he's responsible. That's not even part of the story. The story is if he was justified.
ReplyDeleteMost of you posting here are kidding yourselves trying to make facts of fiction to fit what you hope had happened. In all actuality the law is pretty simple and Zimmerman will find out just how simple it is. He's going to be convicted, an unarmed kid is dead.
ReplyDeleteWho is trying to make facts of fiction 1:49? I bet you don't even know what the law is that is applicable to this case.

ReplyDelete"Ernest Siler if Zimmerman walks, its gona be exactly like the los angeles rits of 1992, and ill be the first one to kick it off, we gonna make this like the movie "the purge" we will see if yall survive the night"
"we gonna?" First off anyone who speaks like this should be immediately dismissed as the dumb arse that they are. Secondly all the LA riots accomplished was to crap up even more their already crapped up neighborhoods.
State's bombing big time. All their witnesses today helped defense more then the prosecution. Neighborhood watch director or something along those lines and who I may add is a black lady testified about GZ's concern for the neighborhood and recommending and asking him to do even more. HOA president said something similar.
ReplyDeleteAlso pointed out reasons why blood may not have been found on TM's hands (when crime scene tech testified) because he was out in the rain for 15 min and moved all around.
A neighbor testified but was impeached by defense-she's still on the stand. Changing her story all around and prosecutors look like they are about to crap a brick. This neighbor was also found to have like a FB page-Justice for Trayvon. It was a great day for the defense so far.
The defense also dispelled another tidbit of "fiction" today. Zimmerman was not ever ordered, instructed or otherwise told to not follow Martin. As a matter of "fact" 911 dispatcher testified that they do not order anyone to do anything ever because that would make them liable if anything were to happen. Another point Zimmerman only described Martin as black after being asked to describe him.
ReplyDeleteThe last witness, a young lady who lived right where the incident took place was caught lying her little butt off by the defense. She didn't see much of anything but in her original statement to police said she heard running from left to right, which matches Zimmerman's story he's always told-Martin came charging at him from the same direction this witness said. This was omitted during state's questioning but was brought up by defense and she attempted to say she didn't know anything about saying that. It was also found she had online postings in sympathic to Martin.
The state's witnesses were gifts that kept on giving to the defense today.
I can't wait until they find him not guilty.
