Vets Fume Over Walter Reed Furloughs

WASHINGTON - The trickle-down effects of sequestration, budget cuts and federal worker furloughs has made its way to Walter Reed's civilian workforce. And the news that caregivers will be sent home instead of tending to wounded warriors has one veterans group fuming.

WTOP has confirmed that workers at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda have received notices of furloughs, which are set to take affect on July 8.

The center released a statement Friday saying that more than 2,500 civilians work at Walter Reed out of a total staff of 7,000 people, including military personnel and contractors.

  2. I'm so disgusted by this. Our Veterans deserve to get the best care. The article says that it wouldn't affect patient care. That is total bulls**t.

  4. This president is hell bent on making sure innocent people suffer as a result of his idea for sequestration. Since it hasn't worked to scare normal americans, he will stop at nothing to cause harm to our brave soldiers who deserve the very best care because they gave their very best to protect us and a VERY UNDESERVING PRESIDENT.

  5. Even some of the troops are not getting a hot breakfast anymore they get a MRE. Maybe we should cut the food budget in the prisons so that our military can get a hot meal for breakfast! They keep giving more and more to all the students for breakfast and lunch as well as food stamps for many yet the military has to eat their meal out of a bag.
