‘A STICK IN THE EYE TO THE CHRISTIAN PEOPLE OF FLORIDA’: ATHEISTS UNVEIL OWN MONUMENT NEAR TEN COMMANDMENTS — AND PROMISE 50 MORE ACROSS U.S.

A group of atheists on Saturday unveiled a monument to their unbelief in God…and it sits alongside a granite slab that lists the Ten Commandments.

American Atheists President David Silverman said that the organization has plans for 50 more monuments at public sites across the country, notes Raw Story.

As a small group of protesters blasted Christian country music and waved “Honk for Jesus” signs, the atheists celebrated in front of the Bradford County courthouse what they believe is the first atheist monument allowed on government property in the United States.

“When you look at this monument, the first thing you will notice is that it has a function. Atheists are about the real and the physical, so we selected to place this monument in the form of a bench,” said Silverman.

  1. The headline is a joke. This is not a stick in my christian eye. Nor would it be if a star of david was erected or a buddah statue. they put up a park bench.
We have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
they live by our laws and can worship what ever they want or don't want to.

  3. 10:37 is absolutely correct. Believe what you will -- it doesn't affect MY beliefs. Just don't kill me or my family because your God says he loves to see blood flow. And the atheists? "Rude awakening" doesn't even begin to decribe what waits for them...have fun while it lasts....

  4. The fool has said in his heart their is no God. I don't let the raging of fools persuade me. We all will stand before Him whether we believe it or not. You can choose to not believe in the wind if you like but you can see the effects of the wind. It is the same with God. His effects on this evil nation are becoming more visible even to the most foolish. When a tornado sends a 300 mph wooden projectile through one of their hearts who will they cry out to for mercy? Science, Obama, Darwin, themselves? I think we ALL know the answer.

  6. I don't agree with the attacks made by atheist groups on Christian monuments and would never complain about prayer in public or in the schools or a government place. I believe places of worship are some of the most beautiful structures created by man.

I believe for those that feel it necessary to have a higher power to worship, it is their right, so long as you also respect my right to believe that once I die, if I have a spirit, I don't believe it is because of a divine being.

The US was founded on freedom of one's religious beliefs and like it or not most all of the founders were Christian. It is absurd to think that some of their Christian beliefs weren't part of the development of the governmental system. We should not abandon what the forefathers started because one's belief or lack there of differs today. Just as I do not believe in this trend towards a gray, bland existence where no one can be better than someone else, ie. the political correctness trend. I don't care if your straight, gay, black, white, old, young, or from what country your ancestors come from. I believe when you are a citizen here you are an American, nothing more, nothing less. Be proud of you heritage, but don't push it on me or try to make me believe your's is better than mine or the guy next to me.

I really feel that's the biggest problem facing America. We have splintered into political and religious groups who are polarized and refuse to allow shared belief's and differences to be present among the followers. Economically, I'm conservative, but I'm not religious at all. I disagree greatly with Democrats and their "our way or no way" liberal beliefs. I'm a true environmentalist, but I also realize some concessions have to be made for the sake of sustenance and energy.

Oh and 1:08, don't be so foolish as to think that trauma, or hard times will make me all of a sudden start praying to god. Some of us have enough faith in ourselves that we do not need to fall back on a spiritual belief to see us through our hard times. That's my belief and it is as much my right to have it as is yours to be christian!

  7. With the Supreme Court's ruling, now churches will be open to law suits if they don't perform gay marriage. What happened to our Christian rights to Freedom of religion?

  8. When you make man the God of his own destiny one creates a world where all abominations and immoral behavior is justified. When faith is destroyed the consciousness of America crumbles into a world where anything goes. As Rome so shall America perish.
