Troopers Investigate Attempted Carjacking Of Elderly Female, Fox Run Shopping Center

Fox Run Shopping Center (parking lot in area of the Acme), 146 Fox Hunt Drive, Newark, DE

Victim:
82 year old female

Suspect:
Black male, 20-25 years of age, 6'0"-6'04" tall, average build. Last seen wearing a blue shirt and gray pants (no further physical or clothing description available).

Resume:
Newark-Troopers are investigating the attempted carjacking of an elderly female that occurred this afternoon in the parking lot of the Fox Run Shopping Center, Newark.

The incident occurred this afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m. as the 82 year old female had just finished shopping at the Acme in the Fox Run Shopping Center and was returning to her car pushing a shopping cart. The victim opened the car's rear driver's side door and placed her groceries on the rear seat. The victim closed the door and returned the grocery cart to the cart collection area and then returned to her vehicle. After getting into the driver's seat of her vehicle, she was confronted by a suspect that was in the rear seat. The suspect placed his hands on the victim's shoulders, demanding her to drive him to an undisclosed destination. The victim was quickly able to exit her car and began to scream for help. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot through the parking lot. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

“Troopers remind the public to be aware and alert of their surroundings in parking lots. Scan the area in and around your car as you approach it and look for suspicious persons or activity. Return to the store or to a public area if anyone looks or acts suspicious. Call 911 if any suspicious persons or activity is observed.”
