"Salisbury's finest at lunch in one of the trucks at Taylor's BBQ".

  1. I'm sure it was just one individual on an errand to get lunch to take back to the firehouse for all the others.

  2. anonymous 2:15, LOL, yeah, that's it. Funny though, if that were the case that would throw out their theory that ALL of them are available to go on a call, one of their many tylenol excuses.

    Keep those pictures coming Folks.

  4. Man, at least eat somewhere with decent food. Taylor's is garbage.

  5. I mean don't labor laws apply to the fire department as well..give them a break they have to eat too! It would be one thing if they were parked out front of a bar but they are having lunch. I'm sure they are allowed a 30 min lunch like the rest of us

Let me try to explain it to you this way. I will be driving to California and you will be paying for the gas. I might even use a vehicle you paid for....or my own. Should I drive a vehicle that gets 30mpg or one that gets 9? I think I will use the one that gets 9mpg after all Im not paying for it YOU ARE

  9. All you gotta do is sit somewhere where you can watch and observe the SECU on Mt Hermon on City payday. Same applies to State payday. Take notice how many government vehicles go through the bank parking lot and, when the fire truck arrives, follow it.

  10. It works like that. If the crew wants to go out to lunch - they all have to go- with an emergency vehicle so they can respond to an emergency call if one came in.

Perhaps they were returning from a call and stopped for lunch before returning to the station.

Otherwise I guess they should all stay in and bring their meals or have them delivered.

  11. I am going to start taking pictures of cops taking lunch lets see if you post them.

  12. How are then enjoying lunch on the taxpayers? 2:26? They pay for their own lunch not taxpayers. I don't know why it's so difficult to understand why fireman take trucks when leaving the station. It's not some conspiracy or "abuse of power". They take to respond to calls if the need arises.

  13. The fire truck is put out the hot women who work there. You know, just in case they burst into flames.

Would you have a problem if I used your car to go to lunch? Also how about when you go to get your lunch all the people working there decide they want to go to lunch. Who is left to tend to custmers/tax payers? Is is not the responsibility of the taxpayer to pay for gas so they can do their errands while on the clock.

  15. They have a new state of the art kitchen at the firehouse. Oh that's right somebody would have to clean up and put the dishes in the dish washer.

  16. Leave our "heroes" alone!

    ReplyDelete
  17. They should not be using gas to go to lunch period!!!!
Cook it or have it delivered by restaurants that do.
Add this up in the course of a yrs time----that's how our money is wasted & it should be stopped!!!

  22. Wish someone would locate the written policy that has been set forth by the FD for incidents like this. I the posters house was on fire and the firemen had to return to hdqts to get the truck while the house was burning........... Get a life.

  23. There's direct deposit available for paychecks and nearly everyone does food delivery (or it is available via a 3rd party).

OC bus drivers aren't even permitted to get off the bus in front of a business to buy a cup of coffee. Salisbury employees are spoiled.

ANYONE should be permitted to photograph a PUBLIC employee driving a PUBLIC vehicle as long as it's done in PUBLIC.

You are correct. I work at some of these places and see the fire crews come in and only one person orders lunch. Most of the time the fire engine they ride in says Truck 1 on it.

I encourage everyone to send in pictures to Salisbury News so they can be posted. They Mayor and Council should have sent Rick Hoppes packing, but instead they reward him with a Department Head position. Ireton/Day moving forward my but. They should resign.

It's called they get paid to work through lunch. Instead of driving a $500,000 fire engine to a restaurant they should be bringing their own lunch from home.

You saw a Salisbury fire engine at a Johnny Janosick's furniture store in Laurel Delaware? You should have stopped to take a picture of it.

  29. Jack K Richards: You mean there IS NOT A (written) POLICY for the unofficial use of PUBLIC PROPERTY? Most would want to know why there is not. Just because "you've always done it" is not a policy.

The point is that there is no reason that a truck or crew needs to be taken out of commission for lunch or to cash a paycheck (or pick up furniture in Delaware). What you may be used to is a luxury many others aren't afforded. Try direct deposit like someone else suggested and look at calling in your lunch orders for delivery. I'm sure the delivery people would appreciate the tips. It's called spreading the wealth you know.

Please someone post which day is payday and maybe I'll take the photos myself.

  30. ok. you bleeding hearts that support these joy rides take the burdon off of your fellow tax payers and go get lunch for these poor hungry fellows. or pack some p,b&j and take it to them. unless you are willing to do this. keep it to yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 8:40 PM many have direct deposit, but they go there to withdraw spending cash, pay truck payments, cash checks from their second jobs. Many of these firemen work 24 hour shifts with 3 days off, sleep all night and work a second full time job. With that said they don't have time to run their errands until they get to work at Salisbury's fire department. Many good perks to being a paid fireman in Salisbury.

When you read a comment that they "have to work a 24 hour shift" just laugh at them because it's not as stressful as they try to make it sound. Those guys have an air conditioned bunk room, lounges with recliners, full kitchens and they rest most of that 24 hour shift. They actually have a job others would love to have. They don't put their lives on the line every day for us, cops do.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Most of the bleeding hearts that support these joy rides are firemen themselves. Guess what not one single paid fireman in Salisbury lives in Salisbury and pays city taxes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Whatever happened to cooking, they used to share the bringing in of food and cooking for their shift. Remember this is when they worked for 24 hour shifts. This included the Paramedics as well. When they got a call everyone did their duties regardless and returned to the station and finished the meal and cleaned up.

  34. Some of the firemen go to Wawa 3 or 4 times a day and take advantage of and abuse the free coffee and sodas perk. Some even get two cups to take to their girlfriends at the hospital.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I took the picture....and it's the third time in 2 1/2 weeks that I've witnessed the same thing. Last time there were 4 guys at Chipolte with this same truck. So there's no way that they would respond to a "call" with that few men and they had no equipment to actually do battle with a fire. Second..if they are on a "30 min" lunch...send one guy with everyones order OFF the clock. I sincerely appreciate what they do...but doesn't include driving a $$$$ vehicle for personal use. Another we are "entitled" attitude that separates the private and public sector.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's that time of Morning. If someone has about an hour on their hands head out to Wawa and take pictures of all the city vehicles parked there for breakfast. That would be the Wawa South.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Central just dispatched all 3 duty crews to a false call at the Gallery Building on the plaza. Most are returning now so it will be their opportunity to stop by somewhere and get breakfast "on their way back from a call." Get your cameras ready.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Gary, all the equipment needed to respond to a call is carried on the truck. Those four people are all you get from that station, unless the volunteers get another engine out if needed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The public doesn't know that even though the fire department got those 12 additional paid firemen through the free money grant that they had more than enough paid firemen alread. During the night half of the shift there is 3 medic crews on at stations 1, 2 and 16 and there is a paid fire crew for the engine and a paid fire crew for the $1 million dollar tower truck at station 16. The paramedic crews on the ambulance run all night long while the two fire crews get to sleep at night unless the engine is chasing ambulances. The engine crews don't self dispatch themselves at night because they want a whole night of uninterrupted sleep so they can go to their next full time job fully rested and wide awake. The self dispatching themselves on ambulance calls is done during the day so they can brag about being a busy fire department and running 12,000 call per year. In reality those 12,000 calls are mainly EMS calls which are running the paramedic crews ragged. Don't let the firemen full you when they spout off they are a busy department that runs 12,000 calls every year. Those 12 paid firemen they hired were to staff fire truck and not paramedics for the ambulance. The staffing went on the fire engines while the ambulances were slighted again and always have been. The paramedic crews have always been short staff even when they were granted permission to hire new paramedics they refused to and hired firefighters instead. New state of the art radios with more of that free grant money. What a joke. With all the paid firemen staffing the fire trucks the volunteer firemen are starting to realize that Hoppes and Co. are doing their best to run the volunteers out of town. This has been his motive ever since he became a paid fireman himself. With all the paid firemen taking every piece of equipment to the calls there is no need for the volunteers to show up and just stand around. When the rare opportunity arises for the volunteers to be called on they may not show up and I don't blame them. They are treated like second class citizens and they are only used to clean up. Mayor Ireton made a big mistake when he promoted Rick Hoppes to fire chief. The volunteers made a big mistake when a few of them voiced their support for Hoppes as their fire chief, especially after they didn't support him the first time.

  40. That was truck 1 from station 1 running out to get lunch for one of their firemen. No telling where the other 3 on board had to go. I'm also wonder where the crews from station 16 and station 2 went to get their lunch. They should be driving their own vehicles or packing their lunch from home.

  41. Joe. I guess you dont see the City Police oficers stopping into local establishments for their lunch or dinner. You just enjoy making an ass of yourself by locking in on the fire department. They have to eat to you know.

    ReplyDelete
  42. anonymous 10:33, I let your ignorant comment up simply to show just how stupid some of you are.

First of all, the POLICE live in their vehicles and are hired to PATROL and protect.

Firefighters are NOT hired to patrol the streets.

Police Officers also drive in vehicles that get decent gas mileage, Fire Trucks do not.

    Nice try though.

    ReplyDelete
  43. A normal family of 3 to 5 people who want fast food dinner do not all get in the car to get take out food. Normally there is one person who makes the run. Oh, that's right, fire fighters aren't normal.

  44. If you listen to the scanner you'll hear them call in and say they are out of service so they can take time to eat.

Very good point Joe. Fireman and their wifey's are to stupid to understand that concept.

Recently on a warm spring day I kept seeing a fire engine cruising up and down college avenue near the college and then it hit me like a ton of bricks. They were riding back and forth gawking at the young college students sun bathing in their bikinis.

  47. 11:00 AM great observation. Many of them are perverts and have questionable backgrounds. Remember a couple of years ago when the paid fireman that had the used unmark police car fully equipped with undercover lights and antennas? He was arrested as a suspect in a rash of incidents where he was impersonating a police officer in Delaware and Maryland. A year later Acting Fire Chief Hoppes and Mayor Ireton took him back and awarded him back pay. He was also rewarded with a promotion. Be very careful when these guys enter your homes. Hopefully you won't be alone.

This comment was uncalled for and it is obvious this is the culture within the Salisbury Fire Department. This is the culture that Mr. Hoppes has employed and engaged his staff to follow and promote. And some of you people wonder why the council majority did not want Hoppes confirmed as a department head.

  50. You all are ridiculous!! There are a million other things to complain about and everyone is worried where the salisbury fire department is. If they were eating lunch after responding to a call, then why shouldn't they be allowed to get out in in the community and eat. I am a taxpayer, and I think if they need to eat and be able to respond to a buring building or cut open a car to save a life in a matter of minutes, than so be it. I wish everyone would focus their needs to complain on the way our politicians are running our country. Yes, they should not abuse the city's resources, but if they are doing thier job, then let them do it. Focus on the gangs, drugs, prostitution, and other countless crimes that our taking over Salisbury. Ohh wait...everyone is too busy complaining about where someone is eating lunch.
