The Southern California church headed by popular evangelical Pastor Rick Warren says his 27-year-old son has committed suicide.
Warren's Saddleback Valley Community Church in Lake Forest, Calif., said in a statement to CBS News and other outlets Saturday that Matthew Warren had struggled with mental illness and deep depression.
"Despite the best healthcare available, this was an illness that was never fully controlled and the emotional pain resulted in his decision to take his life," the statement said.

Very sad ending to the son of a father who is an inspiration to all Americans.
ReplyDeletewhat a shame RIP.
ReplyDeleteif he was on these "mood altering drugs" it was always going to be a possibility. prayers for his family.
ReplyDeleteHey Christians! Does think mean that he is dammed to hell?
ReplyDeleteHey Neanderthal @ 4:06 learn to speak English. Once you do that you can try to criticize others.
ReplyDeleteAs a Christian I am glad God judges our heart based on very simple criteria regarding salvation and secondly I am glad there is still hope for you,
ReplyDelete5:56 Baazinga and to the point. If you have a heart defect it may be genetic. If you have MS it is genetic. Parkinsons = genetic. Depression + Panic = genetic and shame and hiding and none of the fund raisers you will find for all the other genetic causes listed above. What a pitiful humanity that judges people from birth who inherit something they cannot change and a reluctant to ask for help because of the stigma that goes along with it. We might as well live in the dark ages. Hey you...with diabeties...better look over your shoulder..your next.
ReplyDeleteSo sad that people are still assuming most diseases are genetic. A few may be. But many today can be "cured" by simply changing their diets. Drugs and chemicals are not natural substances that GOD made to go into our bodies that GOD made. And by the way, GOD still heals! I know many who have been touched by HIM. Those who are faithful and obedient to HIM. Read HIS WORD and discover TRUTH!
ReplyDeleteHey 6:17...Everything is made by God, if you read the Bible. He also allows hardships in our lives. If you are faithful and obedient to Him, like the Warrens have been, there will still be hardships. Also, diseases are genetic... God made genes, so what's your point?
ReplyDelete6:17 A.M.....Hate to tell you this (enlighten you) but there are very many things that are genetic and terrible. I really don't care if you are depressed b/c it is genetic or it is imagined....YOU ARE DEPRESSED. As the family said..he was at a weak moment and he took his life. Drugs are not always the answer...but the attitude that drugs are always the problem is narrow minded and probably the reason he is dead. I repeat...you cannot get a quick fix with anything..and even prayer takes time and then there are the unanswered prayers (or so we think) that we must learn from. Please learn that not all medication is the enemy. I sure wouldn't confide in you that I take even an asprin. Wouldn't want to be judged less of a Christian.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous at 4:06-
ReplyDeleteAs a Christian, it is my mission to love other people, not judge them. Judgment is God's job, not mine. God loves you,Anonymous, and so do I!
