The “rain tax,” as opponents have dubbed the stormwater runoff fees set to kick in July 1, is likely to be modified, key legislative leaders told a business group Thursday. The fees could amount to hundreds of dollars for residents of some counties and thousands more for businesses and even churches.
“As you see this thing played out, the legislature will do something,” Senate Budget and Taxation Committee Chairman Ed Kasemeyer told a Howard County Chamber of Commerce breakfast. It’s unclear when that might happen, since the General Assembly is not scheduled to meet again until January, and tax bills will hit mailboxes in July.
“I think it’s not over yet,” said Kasemeyer, who had sought to delay implementation of the fees for two years, amending a bill exempting nonprofit groups and churches from the charges. The Senate approved the amendment on the last day of the General Assembly April 8, but a House committee let the bill die.

Sounds like they walked outside and heard the laughter all the way from here to the west coast and decided to reconsider...
ReplyDeleteThe comment from Jim Robley D-Howard, "We have to go back and make this tax better". Typical Democratic response because the whole Country is laughing at Maryland.
ReplyDeleteOmally you and your communist friends tax policy is the joke of the nation..it reveals how stupid you are!! and its these kind of ideals ...that have doomed any chance of you ever becoming pres
ReplyDeleteBetter? How about changing the name to "drizzle tax"?
ReplyDeleteGood enough, next!
How is it fair to tax the rain that only God sends? We have no control over it, when it will come, where it will go down, and how much will come down. How in the name of heaven can the legislature require citizens to pay a rain tax on something even they can't control. I realize the politicians think they are God, but they aren't and he won't be mocked either.
ReplyDeleteThis beats crazy. I've talked to several friends in other states not Delaware and they are still laughing. The first thing they want to know is who are your legislatures and what in earth are they smoking and drinking? I was so embarassed at the snickering. It is stupid to have this tax. After all these decades and now they want to tax the rain that falls on taxpayers property.
This is unjust and unfair. Using spy satellites to spy on our property for rainfall have they gone completely mad????? What a laughing stock of clowns making laws for sensible people.
This circus bunch in Annapolis needs to be voted out at every election.
And I intend to do just that no more good ole boys or girls.

ReplyDeletePrediction: One of the deeper thinkers in Annapolis will propose repealing the Rain Tax and replacing it with a levy on airborne water that crosses the state line from adjoining states. After all, if it doesn't rain there is no run-off to worry about. sarc off.
ReplyDeletePray for a drought!
ReplyDeleteScrew O'Gay-Alley and his Commie Senate
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they tax stupidity? They would collect more revenue and just in Anap they could balance any budget.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how the founding fathers would react to all the taxes and fees that have been levied against the citizens of Maryland by Comrade O'Malley. My guess is that he would be removed from office, jailed and would be awaiting trial as a traitor.
