Poll: 58 Percent Back Gay Marriage

Support for gay marriage is climbing, with a poll released Monday showing 58 percent of Americans now believe gay and lesbian couples should be able to wed, a dramatic reversal from only a decade ago.

The ABC News/Washington Post poll found 36 percent of Americans oppose same-sex marriage, down from 55 percent in 2003. That’s the same year Massachusetts became the first state to legalize gay nuptials, and a year before Republicans placed anti-gay marriage referenda on state ballots across the country to help then-President George W. Bush’s re-election bid. At the time, only 37 percent of Americans backed gay marriage, according to the same polling group. Today, gay marriage is legal in nine states, with three states — Maryland, Maine and Washington — voting to legalize it last November.

  1. I think when most people are asked whether they support it or not they end up having to lie. The gay people and the media have conditioned the country to feel the need to lie for fear of being labled a hater or bigot. Either that or they feel as if the country has already gone to hell so why not just go with the flow and say you support it. For whatever reasons, there is no way that this particular moral sin can have that many supporters.

  2. I dont support it it makes me sick to see to men and to women together. They can not have kids the way they were intended to.I think they have some kinda of mental disorder.Guys wanting to dress like woman and the women trying to dress like men and be something they were not born to be.They might con all the liberals and try to blind side america but I will never change my views to think that lifestyle is ok.

    1. Yes alex, but in a downward spiral. This was caused by politicians in fear of loosing votes. Nothing more, nothing less. God help us all.

    1. Yes, unfortunately the people who could have stopped this are the ones who are disheartened by this whole mess and didn't bother to vote. Shame on them as well.

  7. Let's see we have
    1) people lie
    2) voter fraud
    3) real people didn't vote

Maybe the reality is people do favor this.

  8. I will never understand why people want same-sex marriage to be against the law, even if they personally have religious or other objections to it. How does it affect you in any way whatsoever? Live and let live.

  9. Yes, 4:19 is spot on. Plus, the state government gets a fee for every wedding license, so how's that a loss?

  10. It should be kept in the closet so our children don't have to see it and get any weird ideas. It's hard to explain this nonsense to them.

  11. Because we have to treat AIDS patients every day, 419. And we have to cope with the mentally ill every day. Thinking 2 same sex people could possibly "parent" a child is insanity. I have to pay for the results thrown on the kids they are allowed to adopt.

That's how it affects me, 4:19!

  12. i don't think kids should be exposed to this behavior. I don't think they should be aloud to adopt either. I think they would confuse the kid. These people are mentally sick themselves let alone trying to subject our kids to there nonsense.
