Md. Bill Would Add Time For Crimes Committed Around Kids

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Under a proposed bill, violent offenders in Maryland could have five years added to their prison sentence if the crime occurs around children.

The bill before the General Assembly prohibits a person from "committing a certain crime of violence when the person knows or reasonably should know that a minor of a certain age is present in a residence."

It considers a minor at least 2 years old and younger than 16.

  1. I think they should also add time to crimes falsely reported. The penalty should be equal to that of whatever crime it was that was falsely reported. Such that if one accuses another of rape and has later been found to have fabricated the story then the accuser should be sentenced to life in prison. As it stands now the penalty for a false report is nil. I know this would include much time and investigation but would only be fair as well as deter one for falsely reporting and subsequently putting another in jeopardy of losing their freedom and possibly life.

  2. They will add these laws , sure , but we don't enforce the laws we have. Just another bunch of crap.
