CNN'S RACHEL NICHOLS: NASCAR MAY LOSE APPEAL TO 'MAINSTREAM' AUDIENCE WITH NRA DEAL

Rachel Nichols, whom CNN chief Jeff Zucker hired from ESPN to anchor the network's weekend sports show that is in the works, hardly took any time espousing the network's elitist and liberal views by implying the National Rifle Association, which Gallup found to be more popular than President Barack Obama, was not a mainstream organization and could potentially repel "mainstream" viewers away from NASCAR.

On a panel on CNN's Monday edition of "Piers Morgan Tonight" that discussed the NRA's sponsorship of an April 13 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Texas, Nichols said the NRA sponsorship could be a step backwards for NASCAR after the success it has had in drawing new viewers to the sport after Danica Patrick became the first female driver in history to win a pole when she did so at Daytona.

  8. I agree. Most NASCAR fans would embrace the NRA's sponsorship instead of being offended by them.

She needs to learn exactly WHO those NASCAR fans are!

  13. As a Caps fan she used to be the beat writer for the Washington Post on the Caps. She was a dimwit now, as she was then. Not real sure she believes what she is saying, I thingk she will say and agree to anything as long as it involves face time and money.

  15. "How the heck can anyone at CNN give anyone advice on how to appeal to a mainstream audience? For Heavens sake! Their ratings are lower than MSNBC's are! NASCAR knows it's audience, not this elitist liberal geek, low info news hack. The NRA is the perfect sponsor for the most watched sport in the USA. I figure 80 to 90% of their audience are gun owners, and probably 1/2 of them are already NRA members. This will get more NRA members watching NASCAR, and more NASCAR fans joining the NRA. It's a CNN nightmare situation!"
This is a comment from the main article.., he nailed it.
