The President’s State of the Union focused on finding new and innovative ways to cut waste, improve efficiencies, improve education — from Pre-School to higher education — and create jobs. Here in Maryland, we are already working towards stronger families, stronger communities, and a stronger America.
A More Sustainable Energy Future
Here’s what President Obama said:
“Four years ago, other countries dominated the clean energy market and the jobs that came with it. We’ve begun to change that. Last year, wind energy added nearly half of all new power capacity in America. So let’s generate even more.”
And here’s what we’ve done and are doing in Maryland:
In Maryland, we’ve set some of the nation’s most aggressive renewable energy standards and goals both (1) because we understand that a green energy future matters for jobs, it matters for our quality of life and it matters for the future we leave our children; and (2) because we can only achieve progress if we set measurable goals and hold ourselves accountable.
This year, we’re proposing to move forward with the Maryland Offshore Wind Energy Act of 2013, a project that will create jobs, supply electricity, reduce emissions and put us on a path to long term price stability.
