Proposed Voter ID Law Again Draws Hot Debate In Annapolis

Republican legislators are back again, pushing controversial voter identification laws after failed attempts in prior years.

Sponsored by Republican Dels. Nic Kipke, Kathy Afzali and 32 other Republicans, but no Democrats, the contentious bill sparked heated debate last week in the House Ways & Means Committee.

HB 137 is a very familiar subject to many of us in this room,” Kipke told the committee. “I think most of us have differing views, but I believe requiring proof of identity on election day is a good thing for our election integrity.”

  1. really? whats the problem with voter id?
you need id to cash checks, buy beer, get on a plane, drive, ect ect.

voter id could help reduce voter fraud

  2. You must have proof when at MVA,you need proof when making a purchase anywhere, you need proof when seeking medical attention, you need proof to marry, you need proof you died for insurance, my point is you need proof of your identity. Why when it comes to something as important as your vote, you don't need proof? Could it be the leftist, and the democrats know they would never HONESTLY win any election if proof was required.
Why is it when you have any transaction at MVA, they automaticaly access your voting registration and ask you how you are registered and if you want to make a change? An electronic message is then sent to voter registration and in approx. 1-2 weeks another registration card is mailed to you even if you don't make any changes. It seems an invasion of privacy to me as well as a wasted cost that could be done away with. It is also a duplication of services. I believe a high degree of voter fraud is introduced into this mix.

  5. Every time you vote make sure to ask them if they want to see your ID...force the issue.

  6. Any elected official that publicly prevents voter ID enforcement should be removed from office for promoting voter fraud. Voter ID should be made into Federal law. If not, then stop requiring it for every other aspect of public life, PERIOD.
