Medal Of Honor Winner Clint Romesha Declines State Of The Union Invite From Michelle Obama
Just a day after receiving the Medal of Honor by the president of the United States, former Army staff sergeant Clinton Romesha has declined an invite by the first lady to be her guest at the State of the Union address Tuesday night.
He said that after some soul searching he decided he’d rather spend the evening with friends from his former unit, his wife Tammy — with whom he celebrates a wedding anniversary Tuesday — and their families, CNN reports.
“As much as a great honor it would be to be a guest of the first lady, it’s also kind of hard to break away from the friends and the family and all the great guys here,” he told CNN. More
Did you notice at the speech last night, very few times the military people stood up. Obama is not thought highly of in the services. It began when he suggested that they pay for their health care.
Two things, first the man is humble and shows respect for the First Lady by respectfully declining the invitation. Second, the Military are not supposed to show any political leanings during these things and take their cues with regard to applause and standing in approval or support from the ranking member in attendance. In this case the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. By the way they all stood once, in honor of the fallen.
As a true American that with little regard for his own life....did what he did to save his comrades in arms...I salute you for being true to your beliefs. He was more concerned for the 8 fallen soldiers than he was for what he did to earn the MOH. A true hero thru and thru.
Isn't it ironic and very disturbing at the same time that heroes like him are protecting us all around the world from people similar to our own president.
Being a military member, he couldn't critize the commander-in-chief and get away with it. Insulting the first lady would also be bad news. He probably WANTED to say that he wouldn't pee on them if they were on fire, much less sit next to them or be paraded like a zoo exhibit. He's man that's risked more in ONE DAY than the obama's have EVER risked in their entire lives. Can ANYONE imagine obama in combat?
