The War On Drugs

The nation’s most influential state could be taking a big step in the right direction when it comes to stopping Richard Nixon’s failed drug war. In his State of the State Address on Wednesday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that decriminalization of marijuana possession is one of his top legislative priorities this year. Referring to the thousands of people in the state who are busted for non-violent drug possession, Cuomo said, “It’s not fair, it’s not right. It must end, and it must end now.” Already, the number of marijuana arrests in New York is expected to decline, now that the courts have barred “stop and frisk” searches without reasonable suspicion. About half of all the people arrested in New York City for pot possession were targets of a "stop and frisk." After California decriminalized marijuana – arrests for the drug dropped 61% - which means fewer taxpayer dollars being funneled into an unwinnable drug war. It's time for the rest of the nation to chill out like California, Washington, Colorado, and, hopefully, New York state.

  1. One hundred million American adults cannot pass the simple reading tests given to twelve year old kids born in Utah. The state also has the lowest rate of opiate use in the nation which results in less brain damage and smarter children. The shocking amount of illiterates in America might be caused by the heavy use of opiates, instead of hiring expensive teachers, it would be cheaper and more effective to train opiate sniffing dogs that will labor 24/7 for a can of chow.

  2. Wait. Just kill them. THAT will stop people from smoking pot. Oh. Right. That is already done in some countries. People STILL smoke pot. There goes THAT dumb ass idea. And the logic of 10:42 has holes in it that Hitler could march an SS squadron through. I hate to break the news to all of you people who know everything, but HERE is something you either don't know or REFUSE to know --- your doctor, your lawyer, your architect, your dentist, your teacher, your teacher's superintendent, your FRIENDS, your boss, your PRESIDENT, congressman, your hero (the list is endless) have or currently smoke pot. Maybe those hundred million illiterates need DISCIPLINE and structure (and real consequences) for not paying attention when class is in session. Instead of being ASKED (!!) 20 times in an hour to please sit down and stop punching other kids. Further, the "shocking amount" of reductions in our liberties might be caused by the shocking amount of people who SWEAR to uphold the Constitution, but are apparently illiterate about the document itself. Like everything else, illiteracy is relative....
