Suit Claims Officer Faked D.U.I. Cases

There was a time not so long ago when Lisa Steed’s stock as a corporal in the Utah Highway Patrol was soaring.
Passionate about police work, with a wide smile and a notable number of driving-under-the-influence arrests to show for her diligence, Corporal Steed was named trooper of the year by her superiors in 2007, her career seemingly heading toward the inevitable promotions.

In November, however, the once promising officer was fired amid a haze of misconduct allegations.

Though the Highway Patrol would not discuss Ms. Steed’s dismissal, a lawsuit claims she falsified dozens of those arrests during her 10-year career.

According to the suit, filed Dec. 14 in District Court in Salt Lake County, Ms. Steed made a career of pulling over drivers who she claimed were driving drunk or under the influence.

    HA HA HA,

We have some like that right in our own State on the Shore, but instead of DUI they write you up for anything hoping you pay the fines instead of Court.

That's exactly correct. And part of it is the quota they are forced to maintain. Their policy is a cop should be able to write a ticket at LEAST once an hour. (out of a cops mouth, not mine)

Who do the courts believe, cops or us?

There is no justice unless you are wealthy enough to buy some.

  4. Officer of the Year, huh? How many OTHER cops and prosecutors KNEW what she was doing and - you guessed it -- looked the other way? She made the mistake of crossing the wrong person. But TEN YEARS of this? How many citizens live did SHE ruin? You know, with that "wide smile"? How many citizens were beat up, maced, and humuliated as they protested their innocence? How many innocent citizens now have a police record?
